my college is doing this this year...it's an awesome song, easily done by memorization...i hope that you were able to do it from memorization for this recording
Im singing this song with my whole districts schools and it is going to sound amazing! I sing it with just my class and I get chills Im gonna flip out with all the choirs. And we also took out the solo in this song cuz known of us could sing it just right with that voice added into it. Lol but it is a wonder song <3
@donneboy2009 Wow, actually it was full of black people.I know i am a little late replying to this, but this comment was not needed. It is just the arrangement of the song and the choir keeping to the classical nature of the composition. Please do not comment with anymore ignorant comments.
For anyone who desires a biblical understanding of the gospel and salvation, I would highly recommend checking out the scribd website that is listed on my channel.
Oh YEAH! I forgot all about this song! I loved singing this. This one was really fun. ...wait a minute...was this the song that I... I think this is the song that I had the great big gospel solo at the end of!!! It is! In my choir, this was MY song! HAHA I had almost forgotten about that. Man, this song was fun. We didn't do it so stacatto and polite though "let everything that hath- breath" We did it much more gospel styley.
I love this song except for the very ending... dunno why. Maybe cuz it leaves musical and sounds like a church congregation? And doesn't really fit the rest of the peace? Maybe if you drew out the yooooouuu outtta yoou outtaaaa PRAISE GOD or something like that instead of what's written. Well anyway.
It's not slow... if it was any faster, it'd be like running away with itself :) Speed it up yourself and see :P I'm excited about doing this for TBAS this year!
See... I'm not feelin the "hallelujah praise gods name for 'gods worthy' to be praised", why oh why did you guys change the words of the score? "for God's worthy" is way too much too say at that point. :(
they cahnged it to be politicaly correct. When i tried out, is when they changed it. But in the concert, the guy who wrote it was directing and he changed it back! haha
Good, lol. I imagine Ames would have done that. It doesn't make sense musically, rhythmically, or politically. When you say PC do you mean that some ppl would have been offended that the choir refers to God as a man?
totally agreed. "he's worthy to be praised" sounds much better than "god's worthy to be praised". PCness is bullshit. i'm from texas, i sang this a few years ago in region. wonderful song
I sang this song in the festival of gold and dr armstrong changed everything referring to God to... God hahaa. It wasnt a big deal, but thats the way he wanted it so... why not, he knows what hes doing
im gonna sing this for my all-state this year, and i like it alot, just i wish u would have made it feel a bit more like gospel, it kinda sounded like it was, a really good classic choir sining gospel, but i still liked it :D oh and in stead of sayin praise god, were saying praise him.
during our performance of this song during the long reaped part tward the end.... my choir director did this obnoxious dance ... for those of u who know who it is ... if u know... i was a bit embarest (lol i cant spell... 3:30 am) and they had us sing "praise god_, "praise him"
actually, she sounded more like a special ed person to me. I was going to say good for them, letting the special ed girl do her thing, in all sincerity.
well the clapping wasn't exactly us. it was that one obnoxious guy in the middle of the auditorium who thought it'd be funny to start clapping alone at 1:00
Well the clapping is very appropriate for the piece, so I would hardly call the guy obnoxious. It is a gospel piece after all. After listening again, I can hear that your accompanist had some problems. Also, I don't agree with the text changes. I understand that many honor choirs were changing the text for honor auditions, but I still wonder why.
Also, during the parts where you said "Let everything that hath breath praise, the, lord...." when you go piano all of a sudden and GRADUALLY crecendo, yeah...you guys weren't quiet enough in the beginning of that little crecendo section and got louder too soon. Don't take it personally, take it as constructive critism. Oh also, the soloist...was...sorry I didn't like the way she did the solos.
Yay! Another video to critique. This one is actually one of the better ones that I've seen, and I am glad that someone posted it. I don't agree with falling snow on a lot of his/her comments. The soloists had the best ideas that I've heard in all of the youtube vids, also the clapping was a nice addition. I'm still waiting to see that rockin performance though.
o.o Interesting job. I thought it was...ok. Not enough stacato on certain parts. Overall too legato for a spritual. I'm doing this song too in my high school choir and I can read music.
It's too slow... The original isn't even this slow.

I'm a tenor... and I concede defeat to the cool part of this song to the basses.
This is very well performed. I'm so impressed by their intonation. With this song, the slightest intonation problem really blares, well done!

@SuperOvenMitt If you listen while reading along to Jeffery L. Ames' composition then, yes, many instances of "HIm" are changed to "God."

Although I must agree wuth johnathangibbs. This is one of the better recordings I've heard on this song. =]
And I did like the clapping. I wish my conductor would let us do the clapping on this song. XD
The soloist's voice I did like, it's just the way she carried the notes. They were too all over the place and lasted too long. =/
