This is the best lyric ever written in a song imo. Up there with the best from Cohen and Dylan etc.. How scary it is not to be able to accept a defeat.
one of the single most intense U2 songs ever, and that's saying something...it got kinda lost on the album, but if you listen to the entire thing, this is the song that reaches out and punches you.
Pop, it starts off with some bloody amazing guitar playing, extremely funky that kicks you in the ass - and finishes with some brilliant moving ballads that capture moments perfectly, that kick you in the ind. From top to bottom - Pop is one of the best albums ever released.
@mcveenman lol, so true! I always thought that was such an awesome transition.....
I wish they marketed some of the deeper stuff though more back then; maybe tht great album wouldn't have been written off as much as it was by the larger audience.

"September, streets capsizing
Spilling over down the drains
Shards of glass, splinters like rain"
This song was recorded in '97 but these lyrics are almost prophetic about NYC and 9/11. Spooky.

@TheJagsMusic1 I disagree... The live version is great but the single version just seems watered down imo.
