although the theory is a good concept, the physical application is impossible. the wave pool cannot be completely self sufficient; energy must be put into the system in order to continue. It is stated in the second law of thermodynamics, the law of entropy, that for every energy transformation, some energy is lost to an unusable form (i.e. heat). Pick up a physics textbook once in a while.
@Iamthewalrus3200 The endless refers to the ride ( as you can keep going in circles ). It is evident that all energy lost to turbulens ( heat ) needs to be reinserted. In practice this results in an energy consumption of 1/3 of what is theoretically needed for a specific wave heigth and period for a barrelling wave. For less agressive waves the energy consumption rapidly decreases.
@ruebs as every molecuul of water (except the centre) oscilates with the same period, the resulting wave will behave the same as it's natural brother over a simular reef. The period is relative to the pools diametre, a 60 metre pool will have 8 second waves.
What wave? Looks more like a whirlpool... Everyone gonna be spinning around barffing up chili-cheese nachos while getting flushed down the giant toilet.
@brynndg Smart comment little man how old are you, like 12 or somthing? anyway, its a fact bodyboarder take off deeper, steeper and get higher than any standup ever could try...
@AvolovaMovies It took only 1.2 kW to produce this endless wave. (30cm@3.6s). The best feature of this setup is that it recycles the energy of the foamball and that almost every molecuul of water in the pool moves with the same period, thus reducing friction.
@stevennauwelaerts New question then...could a feedback loop be introduced that monitors the energy expended by the surfers turns, which is then added to the energy of the wave until the surfers energy input is exhausted through fatigue and thus the wave simultaneously depletes...In this way a form of surf marathon competition could be developed as a new surfing sport...eh? It's out there, but why not?
@AvolovaMovies wow...well it doesnt equal unlimited power because the constant power needed to produce the wave is greater than the so called 'unlimited limited power' that it produces...
@DurgSTER4 : if you do nothing (wich is never a good idea when caught in the inside) you will be washed to the centre of the pool where there are no waves.
why did everyone downvote this? Were you really expecting it to be bigger? Quite frankly this is quite an interesting achievement to have an endless wave powered by pneumatic pistons that extend in sequence to keep it going.
As quoted by dereck zoolander from the movie zoolander...Without further adue i give you the steven nauwelaerts surf pool for people who cant surf!!........What is this?(chucks it on the ground)A WAVE POL FOR ANTS!!!!How can we expect people to learn how to surf if they cant fit in the wave pool!steven its just a...i dont wanna hear your excuses the wave pool has to be at least...3 times as big..lol
@themadscientest It does have an endless barrel and it is a genuine swell, wave speed and and shape can be programmed so it can compare to ocean waves, but the ocean is still the ocean.
@flyhigh747 . First of all the water in the pool does not rotate so centrifugal force? And second if you look close, in the center of the pool there is no wave, wich creates a safe zone in the center. In fact a surfer would surf in a big circle around the center of the pool thus creating an endless ride, the further away from the center the wave breaks the faster the ride and vice versa.
i WAS watching surf videos lol

once you try to scale this up won't the change in surface tension have a major impact on the resulting wave?
