  • The graphics look very good for an Atari 2600 launch title (now *that* system is a good showcase for how launch titles rarely make full-use of the capabilities of a console).

  • I love the sound effects in this game.

  • I can see how games like this where mindblowing back then.

  • So many epilectic COLORS >.>

  • 3:48 through 3:52, HYSTERICAL!

  • They're magically delicious.

  • I had that game when I was a kid and loved it. I think that it was the 3rd game cartridge that come out for the 2600. The first two were Combat and Pong.

  • this would make for an awesome screensaver.

  • what does the HD stand for?

  • @nevet1212 In general, HD stands for High Definition, although it is not the case for Classic Game Room. The HD in "Classic Game Room HD" is only there to differentiate it from the first "Classic Game Room" from back in 1999.

  • @Quartrez look up classic game room on wikipedia and it will sat that the HD in classic game rome HD stands for heavy duty.

  • I would've loved this game when I was 8 years old -- back in '77. This is a launch title for the 2600 btw. I didn't get my first 2600 until '81 on the 12th b-day and picked this game up a few years later on clearance. It wasn't one of my favorites. I actually still have a 2600 (not my original one) and this game is in my collection.

  • I love the blocky graphics on the very early 2600 games. The graphics seem almost surreal today, in a good way.

  • What, no cheesy remarks or music from Starship the band? I'm a bit dissapointed with Mark on this one..XP

  • Never heard of it before.Pretty old game.Looks more like someone throws space insects and pepper at you rather than shooting through space. But i guess that was space shooting in 1977.

    Anyway ,good review.Keep'em coming!

  • this is worst game ever :( why i spent money on this shit

  • Dose Classic game room have theyre own shirts?

  • That green one actually looks like a Z that has a little O above left it

  • i played the hell out of this back in 78-79, i had the gatefold boxed copy. the manual was more interesting than the game!! still, it was pretty advanced for that time.

  • thos ships look like the word oz...

    >_>

  • Ahh, thr good ole days when everyone pirated games from others. Who cared about copyrights, just rip it off.

  • I LOVED THAT GAME til it broke in half when my dad stepped on it i was so mad

  • "And we can build this dream together,

    Standing strong forever,

    Nothings gonna stop us now!"

    Oops. Sorry. Wrong Starship.

  • "The stage was now set for The Alan Parsons Project, which I believe was some sort of hovercraft."

    :D

  • And to think this was based on the arcade game Starship 1.

  • wow, stars on the atari? Nice!

  • I dig the crazy sound effects.

  • Was this the very first FPS?

Probably yes. From this evolved other FPSes like Star Raiders, Elite, Wing Commander, Colony Wars, and so on. 1977 was the dawn of all that.

  • I wouldn't call Colony Wars an FPS. It had a first person perspective option, and it was the preference, but I still think it would just be called a space shooter. Either way, Sony need to make more Colony Wars immediately.

  • @harleykman id say maze war was the first first person shooter

  • @Xegethra MazeWar was 1985. Starship was 1977. So it would be the first game to use a first person perspective (as opposed to third person like Pacman). Starship was the first FPS.

  • @harleykman maze war was mid 70s, there has been more than one version. the first version was creeated in 1972/73...look it up on google. the one in 85 was a more popular later version, not the first

  • @harleykman Not really.

  • @Bittergamer1886 Yes really. Starship, Star Raiders, Elite, and similar games were advertised as "first person" games. You can't just go back and rewrite history

    .

  • @harleykman I meant that Starship isn't the first FPS. The first was MazeWar, which was developed in 1973 for the lmlac PSD-1. Look it up on Wikipedia.

  • I'm a big fan of "LOST". Since some of the characters show up in 1977 with Dharma, it would be great to see Hurley playing an original Atari 2600 sixer on the show with this game. :D

  • lost sucks

  • THIS isn't HD :(

  • I think this was uploaded before youtube officially supported HD. I bet the source file was HD

  • I think the texas chainsaw massacre is when you kill little girls with you dicksaw lol

  • ha yeah pretty sure. the good old days of bummy graphics...

  • Looks like the originator to Star Fox. :P

  • i don't remember which atari it is for, but you should review the Texas Chainsaw Massacre one, where you play as Leatherface and have to chop people up haha crazy game.

    anyway

    big up yourself

  • its the 2600

  • COOL

  • Finally one that I never had. I never knew this one even existed. Cool review. I just wish that you showed the Lunar Lander part.

  • your theme song is too long for these short videos

  • Starship wasn't released in Europe. I had to import it a few years back.

We got Star Raiders instead which came with its own controller in 1982. Basically Star Raiders is an update and improvement of Starship.

  • star raiders was great. i love these reviews but i respectfully disagree with him on this one: i also had starship back in the day and i hated it. you can tell from the screenshots he shows: it seems random whether you get hit or not, you can't tell what's what, and there's no overall gameplay. i distinctly remember playing it for like 5 minutes and then putting it away and hardly ever getting it out again. star raiders i loved.

but now because it's from 77 it's cool. which is true too, yaknow?

  • As a child, I remember getting this game back in '78. There were few games at that point & my father and I would wait for the release of each new game (Atari and Telestar/Sears were the only developers then) Checking stores every week. We bought every single game 1 by 1. Unfortunately by late '79- early '80 it was unfeasible since Atari let 3rd parties develop Atari 2600 games. (which contributed to Atari's downfall & the video game crash of 84) By then there were too many games to buy'em all.

  • cool

  • dude, these reviews on the Atari 2600 games rock! thank you SO MUCH for posting this video goodness!!

    long live ATARI**

  • i agree!!!!

  • I love these reviews, I only recently discovered them and had a blast watching the back catalog. I know you do ALOT of 2600/7800 games, but I always want more! Less GTA4, more Atari please :)

  • @justlikedavid138 Give me my Atari over a PS3 any day!

  • This is why.. there were less gamers before.. But then again 60 years from now people will say that about GT4 xD

  • Haha if I was sitting in a cock pit then why would there be a TV there lol. Awesome review as always.

  • I remember playing this one. My brother borrowed it from one of his friends.

Shooting down the starship Enterprise... that was the best part.

  • hmm this game doesn't look too appealing to me, just straight forward head on...But I do love the old Atari 2600 reviews. It made me want to get a Atari 7800 (still waiting on it to arrive here via eBay) as well as the PS3 vs. 7800 video. So I could bust out my old games I own and buy some I never did own, but loved.

  • I have this game but for some reason, will not work. It will boot up and show up, but will not move when i move the controller. It will not even fire.

  • Use the right controller! (took me a while to figure it out) -CGRHD

  • Holy crap i didnt think about that! Another great review by the way.

  • another classic

  • How can unhumans subscribe?

  • aw man I love Atari good review

  • old game. I was born in 86 so that game is well enough older then me.
