@flug747 Actually, no. When I went deepsea fishing, the only fish I returned were either out of season or fish that I've already reached my limit on. We have well over 50 gallon-bags of fish in our freezer now that we will put to good use. I fish for bonding time, fun, and because fresh fish taste the best.

These fish have a very high mortality rate. Three reasons: Stress from fighting for their lives for so long results in oxygen deficits in their muscles and tissue and high lactic acid which causes the pH to drop. Deadly for water creatures. Then the hooks: most fish don't get wounded in the mouth but in the stomach or gills, especially with baited hooks. Finally, when brought up fast from the deep, their swim bladders can burst.
@flug747 You're right, but I enjoy fishing so I'll continue to do so. Catch and release, keep for fish fry or freeze for later, your choice. I recommend being a vegetarian if you're quite concerned. And you don't even know if it was their goal to go out and do catch-and-release fishing. @flug747 Actually, no. When I went deepsea fishing, the only fish I returned were either out of season or fish that I've already reached my limit on. We have well over 50 gallon-bags of fish in our freezer now that we will put to good use. I fish for bonding time, fun, and because fresh fish taste the best.

These fish have a very high mortality rate. Three reasons: Stress from fighting for their lives for so long results in oxygen deficits in their muscles and tissue and high lactic acid which causes the pH to drop. Deadly for water creatures. Then the hooks: most fish don't get wounded in the mouth but in the stomach or gills, especially with baited hooks. Finally, when brought up fast from the deep, their swim bladders can burst.
Don't pretend you're saving them. You're killing them.
