What i would suggest for fresh water is a okuma sierra reel,a echo series fly rod(8 foot 6 inch) for a 6-7 weight range.One thing i can`t stress too much is to MATCH the fly line to the rod.This will allow the most enjoyment in learning this sport.Look up his and hers fly shop in newport beach,ca.-tight lines!

It's a different type of fishing, it doesn't matter how many fish you catch, it's if you enjoy doing so. I enjoy fly fishing just because it is fun, I could care less if you catch more fish, I had more fun.
You might as well stay at home and cast around in your yard if you don't want to catch fish. Leave the waters open for the serious fisherman. You must have been the guy who almost caught my eye on the back cast. Some of you wanna be fly fisherman should learn how to cast correctly in different situations. Try the roll cast or T cast for once.
fly fisherman aren't trying to be arragant you dunce! its an ancient way of fishing that from my experience brings you much closer to the act of fishing. Anyone can sit there in a beach chair, beer in one hand tending to a dobber'ed line. I just started saltwater fly fishing last season and I'm "hooked". Your casting is very bad, you break your wrist and you fling your rod out to the side and pull in your line to fast. You also start recasting to soon, you should pull it out slowly as the fish usual goes for it when the fly is coming out of the water and you do to many falls casts. the fly doesn't kneed to pull it out. this happens because you are not going at the same speed on your back cast as your forward cast, you need to keep an even tempo throughout the whole duration of the cast
when your fly fishing or bait casting or spin casting it is always called casting upstream but if you have a jig on then no matter where you cast it is called jigging...your confused....

It's a different type of fishing, it doesn't matter how many fish you catch, it's if you enjoy doing so. I enjoy fly fishing just because it is fun, I could care less if you catch more fish, I had more fun.

You might as well stay at home and cast around in your yard if you don't want to catch fish. Leave the waters open for the serious fisherman. You must have been the guy who almost caught my eye on the back cast. Some of you wanna be fly fisherman should learn how to cast correctly in different situations. Try the roll cast or T cast for once.

fly fisherman aren't trying to be arragant you dunce! its an ancient way of fishing that from my experience brings you much closer to the act of fishing. Anyone can sit there in a beach chair, beer in one hand tending to a dobber'ed line. I just started saltwater fly fishing last season and I'm "hooked". Anyone can catch anything in freshwater so don't knock the guy next to you doing the same hobby as you!

Your casting is very bad, you break your wrist and you fling your rod out to the side and pull in your line to fast. You also start recasting to soon, you should pull it out slowly as the fish usual goes for it when the fly is coming out of the water and you do to many falls casts. the fly doesn't kneed to pull it out. I am not trying to insult you i am trying to help, oh and by the way i am 12 years old. Hope I helped thanks good bye. =D

this happens because you are not going at the same speed on your back cast as your forward cast, you need to keep an even tempo throughout the whole duration of the cast

I saw your post and decided to reply. I baitcast and I fly-fish. I believe that baitcasting is easier. Something anybody can do. But fly-casting is an art. Its a discipline. It is the greatest challenge in a sense.
