1. You can use the pumpkins and make Jack-o-Lanterns which can be placed underwater. (it was pretty convenient that pumpkins were near the oasis)

2. You can use wooden planks to "cook" you "wood" to make charcoal as a substitute for coal and lasts a bit longer.

3. Wolves don't attack Creepers. :D

PLUS, if you go to the top of the oasis waterfall and then enter the water on the right hand side, go down a bit and then back in towards the waterfall.. there is a small opening where there is 6 bits of sugar cane which is what i believe you were looking for at the start of this video :)

JX, remember the old sand-torch trick? Dig out the bottom block of sand and quickly place a torch to collect the entire stack at once. You'll cut a trench right though that mountain in no time!
