Which Cain film GET CARTER of course. One of the best ever live bands I followed them everywhere. I never missed a Valentines day until I left old blightly shores. Keep the faith boys!!
This was the song Kids in the Halls, Dave Foley and Kevin McDonald played to get pumped for their Pilot show of the Kids in the Hall. The year 1988 or 1989.
Fuckin awesome band. They spoiled a gig once by playing Anarchy In The UK as an encore but I forgive them. Mr Dollimore was & is a superb guitarist. My band supported the Damned in 94 when he was a member & he was a gent, offering red wine & crackers all night!
kind of scary.....your born(birth)you go to school, you go to WORK,then you DIE!! sounds like life for the most of us."true punk" i love every song from this LP!!!!
The Lead singer reminds my of the one of the leading actor who played one of the Kray Bother. in the 1990 Movie entitle The Krays. They must of been inspired by the Krays, to come up with such an agressive persona and sound.
They influenced many many performers after them, but sex pistols influnced them.Truly awsome band!Havent you noticed that you know most of their songs but you didnt know their names, there you go.
Great! I saw them live in the early 90ies. There were also "the lord of the new church" and "die brüder" ("the brothers" for those, who speak english only) on the festival. Godfathers: Great british rock `n roll-punk-style!
Death!! But if you play your cards right you might milk the longest phase(work, "trust no one") for some tasty juice, untill "Pitch Black"(Great movie).
I saw these guys in Atlanta when they hit the road to promote their first album. I was amazed at how well the guitarists traded licks. Didn't the lead singer used to write for a major trade magazine like Rolling Stone before putting this band together? I'd be interested in how the renunion concert went. .if anyone has seen them, please comment. I love this song. I still play that first album, now in CD form, religiously. It's that good.
I always assumed it was "Alfie", as in "what's it all about, Alfie", but it's entirely possible that he just said Michael Caine because it rhymed and didn't have any particular film in mind.
they were chuckin brill live - one of the Internationals in Manchester, late 80s. Never made it really big, but too many corporate arseoles do and not enough of the good guys.
ringo, you lucky thing! I only saw these lads that nite in Wardour Street and that was also the last time that I went to the Marquee before it moved to Charing X and the original site was tragically and shamefuly demolished. I agree great band, great memories. Peace.
The Godfathers are reuniting their original line-up to promote the reissue of an expanded 21st anniversary edition of their debut album Hit By Hit which will be out on January 10th.
Hey mate, thanx 4 your suggestion! Yeah, u right, not as classy as the Godfathers but Queens of the stone age provide a healthy portion of straightforward RnR. Peace. Cheerz
I frist became aware of 'The Godfathers' when I saw this very same video back in 1987 and I always thought that they should be more widely known but the same year -1987- GnR came on the scene like gangbusters. Now, that I am older and more mature, I can appreciate the existential angst in this song. When I was a teenage back in the 80s I just couldn't connect but now I sense and completely understand the lyrics. I'm audi, peace!
and I still remember the exacte quote I read on "Time Out" magazine when I decided to set out for the Marquee that long gone nite in Dec. '86: "Godfathers - No fuss Rock 'n Roll" And that's what it was all about!! I really miss bands like this.
I saw these guys live back in December '86 at the Marquee in Wardour St. I'll never forget this gig and I'll never forget the unique sweaty atmosphere of the Club and the earache for the twangy Tele strummin'!! A great band in the very best venue ever existed.
alex, that gig at the Marquee '86 was my introduction to the Godfathers and i went on to see them a good few times afterwards, a couple of times at the Venue in New Cross, great band, great memories.
The are totally right B.S.W.D damn!!!!Awesome

Remember,Hendrix and The Pretenders also had their first big splash in the UK.
The song title rules. The artists went on to what after The Godfathers?
