He originally was scheduled to play on Heavy Metal Sunday (which is ironic since he hadn't played any real hard rock since before he joined the Eagles), but when John Mellencamp dropped out, Walsh got moved to the more appropriate Day Three with all the more mainstream acts. With Walsh getting moved it allowed Quiet Riot to get put on the bill and this helped jumpstart their career.

@The777Underground Actually, Joe Walsh didn't drop out, he just got moved to day 3 after John Mellancamp dropped out. Of course, Walsh was a better fit for that day due to the fact that he hadn't played real hard rock since before joining the Eagles.

@Sargebri I should look at my t shirts I got packed away. there at one of my kids pad. I have like 120 t shirts fom that time zone hahaha. most people at the US concert where wasted. I know I had a great time hehehe. nice brake from all the college stuff. Love Scott (BUG) I saw QR in Pas. Ca. 2 weeks before the US too. that 2nd. day was a trip when ozzy came on I was in the beer garden, when JP came on I was getting hit with the water cannons. dang it was way hot that day. hahaha.

I was there! It was 110 degrees hot as hell, they had to spray water on us, we drove from northern Cal to San Bernardino. AWESOME!!!! I was 15 then.

@DevinsMetalShow Day One was the New Wave/Punk day headlined by the Clash. Day Three was the more mainstream acts with David Bowie (w/Stevie Ray Vaughn) and Stevie Nicks headlining and featuring a young Irish band named U2.

@tomgenerazio INXS, Diviynls, Oingo Boingo, the Stray Cats, Flock of Seagulls, the English Beat, Wall of Voodoo and Men at Work. However, the Ramones did not appear at that year's festival. They were at the 82 festival.

@askmeicare around 400,000 on "heavy metal day" alone...thats alot. in fact, Vince Neil stated that the US Festival was the time that New Wave died and metal took over ;)

@miiwii93 Yep. When you look at all the bands that appeared on New Wave day, most of them only lasted for just another year and then they broke up. In fact, the only bands on that day that were around at the end of the decade were Divynyls and INXS.

This was the most rocking day of my life! All the bands sounded AWESOME! They were going to have Joe Walsh open for Metal Day HAHA! Can you believe it! I am glad they dropped Joe and added Quiet Riot! If you thought Quiet Riot should have played higher in the rank they were added last minute. It was perfect to start the day I thought.
I will NEVER forget this day..... Or the night before LOL! I think I will go plug in and play some noise now HAHA!
