Captain Sully's political affiliations are not in line with mine, and I'm not sure that seeking public office would be making use of his best gifts.

No pun intended, but I would not wants Capt. Sullenberger's or Capt. Skyles to become sullied by political backroom dealings.

If Morning Shows are anything like the Late Night show they all pay their guests Actors Guild Minimum - the pay is IIRC a legal requirement for the appearance, but the Networks agreed long ago to make it the minimum for all to a) not start a "competition" by paying guests more for an appearance, and b) because most times the guests are getting promotion for something in return for appearing.
