Sublimely beautiful singing!! I wish there was real Tanpura accompaniment, though. Also, a Sarangi as accompaniment might have brought out the Karuna rasa (Pathos element) of the raag Chaukeshi more. Komal Dhaivat and Nishaad call for a Sarangi or at least a violin. The hamonium has great qualities, but it has limitations as well, I believe. However, Shrimati Chakraborty is unquestionably one of the greatest singers of Hindusthaani music.

Beautiful voice but not a great picture of Charukeshi. This raga is also known as Sheraz in Pakistan and Afghanistan. Around 7:00 minutes use of shudh dhaivat is only permissible in this case becuase this is light music. Typically this rag does not use shudh dhaivat.

Kaushiki is a great artist don't get me wrong, but when you listen to Shubra Guha, Veena Sarasbudhe, and Ashwini Bhindi, you see that she need some time to get to that level.

I have heard each of them multiple times & even hosted them. The only thing kaushiki is less than them is the "age". But clearly she is more gifted & talented than any one of them.

What is your impression about her father's rendition of the same composition? There is a small excerpt of it on you tube. Do you think that one is also not in the spirit of Charukeshi? It is so strange that I find her pouring her heart and soul into it but you don't. Her father's bhajan is pure bliss. Music is so ubjective.

I heard her father's rendition of the same composition and I think he sings it so beautifully and so smoothly. He strictly sings in raga charukeshi raga scales. Both renditions are wonderful.
