There will never be another singer greater then Karen..as a member of the fan club back in the day I remember seeing Carpenters in concert many many times..I still play this track alot because Karen really shines. Thank you so much for posting this song!
BEAUTIFULL..........the Carpenters.....day after day.....allways.....j'ai 56 ans....c'est toute ma jeunesse....c'est l'Amérique qu'on aime....i am French...
Whitney Houston was a fine singer -- who unfortunately tended to express extra passion by simply singing louder. Karen was far more subtle, creating far more moving music. No wonder Karen ranks as the finest female singer of the 20th century -- as, so far in the 21st, has yet to be surpassed.
I agree the Carpenters were fabulous, Karen's voice is so pure and unadulterated, just pure and oh so melodious. RIP Karen we still care about your music which is your legacy. Love you still.
She was my favorite female vocalist when I was a teenager in the early 70s, and she is still my favorite female vocalist. Such a beautiful, beautiful voice. I've never heard this song before. Thank you for posting it.
@toneal202095 I'm 53 and to this day, I never tire of hearing music from Karen and Richard Carpenter. This was quality music. I loved them and I love them now and I miss them too. It is an old adage but, 'they don't make music like they used to'. A one of a kind duet for certain.
@TheCarsche Old adage or not, you hit the nail on the head. I'm 43 and have a brother who is 47. Every so often I'll send him a song from that wonderful era of 70's pop music, when song writing was so pure and could warm ones heart in an instant with its beautiful sentiment. It allows us to reminisce about the innocent days of our youth, growing up in that era. Almost every Carpenter's song holds a memory from then. Our emails always start, "OMG, I remember this one, it reminds me of..." :)
I have worked with the mentally ill, and I'll tell you this; Karen was seriously ill. She should have been restrained to mental facility. We tend to look at the physical side of what's happening (ie; eating disorder). This woman needed help. She was wonderful, so is her brother. It was a very sad day for me and so many others (who love her), when she passed. If you have a behavior that is not like everyone else? Seek help, even if you 'KNOW' that YOU can handle it. Save yourself for us all. LOVE
@SofieStyrer I was hoping that the people reading this would be able to 'think' for 5 seconds and realize that I (of course) didn't mean behavior as a whole. Help me out here. I think that you know what I meant by having a behavior (as it applies to the story-line). Consider the story and then what I said; If you are puking up your food and you think you look fat when you are skin and bones or if you are slicing your skin open. Something like this. That's what I meant about a different behavior.
Actually, the saddest song in the Carpenters' repertoire is one of their most upobeat: "Only Yesterday." It includes the most moving line in any of their tunes for her, as she confessed to me: "hope was all I had until you came." If you read the book "Little Girl Blue," you'll see that Kare4n's ultimate dream was not stardom but to have a true love, home and family of her own. That was her fondest hope -- but true love and motherhood never did come to Karen -- who deserved them so completely..
@horarwgt She was a down-to-earth women- trapped... Richard would have done nothing w/o her.. though he keeps propounding how is talent so surpassed hers.. MMKAY.
@iclandgirl Richard was and remains a highly talented (if egocentric) musician/composer/arranger/producer. The albums he cut with Karen rank among the very best productions by anybody ever. Could Karen have succeeded without Richard? Yes but she would have been recording somewhat different material (as she did with Richard Perry). Would it have been better? Who could say? Could Richard apply his talents to spotlight other singers? Sure -- but after Karen's death he soon lost his drive.
From one who remembers the original Karen... So well done, but it lacks the original. One day, those will watch who do not know "then". They will remark "how beautiful", never knowing it's a copy. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery so I will love both, but forgive me if I always remember the original. RIP, Karen.
What is the korean movie where at a company a blue collar man falls in love with girl who is daughter of company doing the building? They love and get a house and then she starts losing her memory and has to be in a hospital all the time and only sometimes she remembers things then the very end she lost all memory and thinks her family are angels. So super sad movie have not cried like that in over 20 years.
Yea, I don't think it's sad> I was asked to sing it at my teacher's wedding; her and her new husband had both been married before; I had never heard it before; but was very appropriate
This looks like a Japanese version or adaptation of a movie that Sandra Bullock had done a few years back called the Lake House. Keanu Reeves was also in it. The mailbox represents their link because they actually live two years apart. It's hard to explain he just have to watch the movie. I wish I knew the name of the Japanese version is because I'd like to watch it.
@gussiegander I am a rock and roll and 80s music type guy but the Carpenters are one of the easy listening groups that I really love..I think what the song is saying is that if you had a love and lost it due to a breakup or death and then in time meet someone else to leave your sadness behind from the previous relationship and give love a chance again...in other words "make believe it's your first time" Give love another chance...you never know what you might be missing out on :-)
@monique131972 My first time to hear it was a few minutes ago. I'm a major fan, but had never heard this one. The video was depressing though....but the song was LOVELY!
This song, like all Carpenter's music lift me, to heaven. I don't think is sad. I think is very sensual and unexpected lyric to hear from them. Blew me as "Touch me when we're dancing" did.
This is such a wonderfully beautiful song. It's sad but, the lyrics tell a love story. It's rare when a person comes along, in a lifetime, that can sing a song like Karen did. She had an incredible talent. Thank God that there's technology that allows Karen's voice to live on.
