I feel like if I heard this without having heard the original and knowing what it was supposed to sound like in its polished form, I wouldn't be impressed either. But having heard the original and being able to use my imagination, I love this. :p
i remember watching this in 93 and i was 19...my dad said what the hell is he playing at hitting the mike on his ass.....i told him he was bringing in a whole new change in music....i was right
Guns N' Roses gets into the Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame, which really isn't much more than a tourism site, Type O negative, Suede and other groups create more memorable music which doesn't get much attention, still the songs live on...every decade has its share of diamonds and shit nuggets, it's most important to keep that in mind, it's not about popularity,it's about music and the effort made to create it, whether it sells or not...
We need another band like Suede to do this. I saw five minutes of the American Music Awards last night and it was a fucking joke. If a band like this played, the world would be whole again.
wish I'd seen this at the time (always avoid the Brits as music's always dire on it cept this once,it's like a bomb went off under the bigwigs chairs ! Priceless)
Cheers for sharing. I've been looking for this on YouTube for a few years now and great to see it finally uploaded. I'll always remember the shocked look on the industry bigwigs' faces. This was the nadir of the Brits (and that's saying something considering Sam Fox and Mick Fleetwood's contribution).
Ha! Ha! Those fucking corpses sitting in the audience, used to manufactured boy band shit being shoved down their throats every year at the Brit awards, then this maelstrom of noise hits them with Brett Anderson wiggling his arse in their faces. Absolutely hilarious.
They'd been asked to cut the lyric about for some reason so Brett decided to be as provocative as he could be as a big fuck you to the britts. The year before this it was all celine dione and shitty dance outfits. The year after I think was when Jarvis from pulp mooned Michael Jackson. The nineties really were the greatest decade for music.
the crowd is stiff, loosen up your ties people, i would be mad if I preformed in front of such a dead audience.... and who is that bald bloke at the end of the clip.... ???
Something like this needs to happen again. We're in a musical landscape of either hip hop guys rapping about their swagger, "R&B" people who sing about cheating on each other, or pub rock/metal bands with 3 word names that all sound the same. Just as fucking boring as 1990. We need just the one song and performance this brilliant to change things again.
Brett Anderson is a hero! Fantastic song and that great performance made the Brits what it is today and put a bit of misery in those lardy dar pig-nosed pompous twats.
Thanks for uploading it!!! Never seen it with this quality!!! Thanks to Suede and this act, BRIT awards change to that we know nowadays. Brutal and fantastic at the same time!!
the sad thing is that it's gone full circle now. at the last brit's tiny temper (cos that's how it's spelt, dumbass) wins best british breakthrough act. makes me wanna cry
wow... what a shit crowd. they were like... "uh... ok". they didn't get it. yet, if it wasn't for that band and that performance. britain would still be stuck listening to bryan adams over and over again while be choking on awful manufactured pop music. thank you suede for giving britain a kick in the ass.
@thevoid99 i remember watching this in 93 and i was 19...my dad said what the hell is he playing at hitting the mike on his ass.....i told him he was bringing in a whole new change in music....i was right
Thanks for posting this with decent visual quality. You need a non blocky view to see the Phil Collins and Annie Lennox fans' faces.

No other man shimmying around in a woman's shrug could perform as aggressively as this.

No wonder UK needed Suede back then!
These crowd represent the sorry state the Brit music industry was wallowing on in 1993.
As much as America needed Nirvana during the early 90's, Suede was as badly needed back then in UK to start the Britpop bang!
