My wife got me this for my current Ironman training, In regardes to your question about how it works in water while swimming. Unless your wearing a wetsuit or speed suit, don't bother taking it to the pool for training, as you can imagine once you start swimming hard and pushing off the pool walls, the water gets under the chest strap and will pull it down around your waist. So unless your planning on doing some extremely slow swim work leave it in the gym bag for your runs and bike.
@arimchris You have to manually press the lap button if you want to perform intervals, so it does require a little work on the part of the user, but it's super easy to do. Good luck!
Am I correct in concluding that the watch can't calculate maximum heart rate but requires you to use a manual process from the...manual and then enter that? Watches for one fourth the price allow you to enter weight and age and calculate a heart rate.
I just got this for Christmas and for some reason cannot get it to display any numbers for heart rate. The heart iron is black and flashing, but I have two dashes where the numbers should be. I have the chest strap placed as you do in the video and I moistened the sensors with water and spit! Any suggestions? Thanks!
Hi! Great review! Too bad I forgot about Timex HRMs and bought a polar FT1 to use together with my regular timex watch with laps...
I wanted to ask you if you had any problems with the watch's strap, since I read about seveal people stating They were frustratred because it broke with not too much use.
@miperrodinamita I've had no issues at all with the band, so not sure what these other people are complaining about. Maybe there was a bad batch for a while?
Great review. I was previously considering Polar but then I don't like their design and besides I own Timex Triathlon regular watch (for about 10 years now and still running good).
I am curious, did you consider Polar at all? What made you choose this over Polar?
@berryboen I didn't really look into too many other brands before considering the Timex. I just saw that the Timex had everything I needed and went for it, so Polar never entered the equation.
@maromera I appreciate the positive feedback! I always take calorie counters with a grain of salt, but for the most part, there is consistency between what my Road Trainer indicates, and what the treadmill and elliptical machines come up with. So, I generally assume it is an accurate measurement, give or take a few calories. Hope that helps!
Great review! Went for this mostly because it is the only HRM watch I could find that would look ok to wear as regular sports watch in work. (I am a P.E. teacher and would use the watch functions during lessons). I will mostly be using it for P90X, so hope it will be good for that! Thanks!
@clauseslingjensen I definitely use this watch during P90X, specifically during Kenpo and Plyometrics. As I mentioned in the video, the chest strap might want to slide around on you during Plyo, but just tighten it up a bit. Good luck!

@equsnarnd Yeah, you just calculate your max on your own and enter the data into the watch.

Great video! I'm thinking of getting this watch for my boyfriend as a gift. Is it possible to measure heart rate without the chest strap?
0rangeBee 1 month ago
@0rangeBee No, the chest strap is what captures the heart beat.

@pisces5641 Wish I could offer advice, but I don't know. I haven't experienced any issues with mine. I'd suggested contacting Timex.

Hi
First off great review :)
How accurate is the calories burned mode because I bought a new balance heart rate watch and its numbers were way off from what the treadmill said.
Thanks
