  • Pullied cobras normally will be boosting around 12-13psi on an eaton... So the 350z is actually running less boost then the cobra... If you need to go TT on your cobra when it already has more displacement and comes with forced induction from the factory to just beat a low boost tt 350z then that is sad.

  • "bullshit mods"? Tune, pulley, exhaust and "bolt on's" could equal out to over 500rwhp in that cobra. A base TT kit for a 350z may be around 400rwhp unless he has supporting mods. Given that the cobra comes with a blower and a built/forged block, I'd say the Z with 1.1L less displacement did pretty well.

  • that cobra DID NOT HAVE 500HP not even close and these bolt ons and tune are just normal average ones . no big deal. this cobra im sure was pulling JUST a little over 400hp

  • My cobra with exhaust, 2lb lower pulley, and a k&n filter, with a tune was 430 rwhp on 91 octane..

  • Do the math. Cobras come with 380HP stock. + 20 for the exhaust, + 20 for the intake, + 30 for the pulley (depending on pulley), and + 20 for the tune. now you're at about 470 HP. After losing about 50 Hp through the drivetrain, you're right where you're supposed to be at 420 RWHP.

  • I'm not going to flame you, but it was rated at 370 out of the factory, and that was extremely underrated, some made up to almost 380 at the wheels even, right out of the factory.

  • yeah that does seem low.... there's no reason a 5.4 liter V8 with a blower should only make 380 @ the crank (depending on your sources) when the LS1 gets only 35 less with no supercharger and only 0.3 liters less Displacement. Even today's 4.6 would out-do that with an eaton.

  • Exactly, Nissan didnt think very hard about the engine. The block itself is extremely strong, but the internals can't support ~450whp very reliably, so dollar for dollar the cobra would come out on top. With a few grand more into the 350 for a forged bottom end, the only limit would be the balls of the owner.

    Dollar for dollar the cobra is better for straight line power, true, but then again it's a domestic, that's not a big surprise. The Z is a better overall car if you also include handling. Iron block on the mustang's nose = understeer.

    Second, it has nothing to do with being an "import guy". I, and many people like me, prefer a well-balanced car that can hustle around the curves just as well as it can accelerate. It can be a domestic or an import, as long as it's balanced.
