Thanks so much for uploading this. We are working on a documentary on Victor Jara, the martyred Chilean socialist singer-songwriter this song is about. Info and trailer w/ part of Bono's interview at:
resurrectionofvictorjara (dot) com
Bono later (which will be in film) continues on how important Victor was...and continues to be.
i cant believe i got to hear this song in chicago on july 5 2011. i didnt know this song was so great! and on the 25 anniverseray of gregs death R.I.P.
If ever the Holy Spirit had a say; It was in 1987. I remember cruising in Mom`s `74 Monte Carlo and hearing the first few notes of With or Without you. All of 17 years of age and.....................
Was a Kiwi living in London when this came out, it always made me cry, it was so meaningful to the loss of their friend and the recognition of our then little known nation! Thanks U2...
wore my eardrums out with this one. bono is more than a voice for music .. he is a catalyst for spreading world peace .. uses his fame & notoriety for political awareness and an advocate for human & civil rights. hell .. they're a political band .. always were from the beginning. Ireland . so say what you will about bono.
I don't know if it's just the memories or the talent that U2 has, but when I listen to them, I feel like everything is perfect & that life is beautiful.
Been listening to J-Tree for about 20 odd years now...Just figured out now that in the line "Jara sang his song a weapon" Bono´s referencing folk singer Victore Jara (pron. "Haro"). XD!!!!
@palmysteel they did. it was amazing! The song is actually written about their roadie, Greg Carroll, who died, 'One Tree Hill' is referring to 'One Tree Hill' in Auckland, New Zealand, and they only ever perform this song live in New Zealand. :)
I wish there were more people my age that listened to U2. I'm 18, so I wasn't around when they first came out, but I love them SO much! If you listen to the lyrics they always have a meaning unlike a lot of the music from the 2000's. Yay U2!!
Don't worry!!! I'm 13 and U2 is by far my very favorite band on the entire planet!!!! U2 is amazing, but you're right, nobody under 20 really knows them anymore. I come to school like, "omg, I love U2!" and my friends are all like, "U what?"
@1992vampireprincess Yay i love that there is still people in our generation able to appreciate real music! Im 26 and LOVE these guys - real muscians! <3

Jara was infamously murdered because he was a strong defender of freedom. You should read more about History, and perhaps you would be ashamed of your opinion.
