  • @rickspsringfield I'm a longtime DB fan and I'll just say this, compare their solo careers. The following is from Wikipedia: 1978's Minute by Minute spent five weeks at the top of the music charts and dominated several radio formats for the better part of two years and yielded the band's second @1 hit. In other words they had better commercial success with the pen and voice of McDonald. But I did miss the guitar rock of Johnston.

  • @Riverlover68 TOTALLY UNBELIEVABLE that the Doobies arn't in the R&R Hall of Fame.....a Travesty of music!!!

  • A Holland–Dozier–Holland hit.

  • seen them at the state fair in Minnesota, just after my dad passed way. Good to see them Doobiie brothers it made me smile. My dad passed away May 16 in 02 I know hw knows I am listening to the music

  • remember every member was a true doobie, dont slag off mike mc even if he has gone off the boil , i love motown but please mike no more

  • And When you consider that this song is actually a 'Break-up' tragedy ballad, ya gotta say Whoa----Only the DB can make feelin' so bad Rock so great!!!!!!!! First time I got it, it Blew me Away--still does!!---{and just What is it he's askin' for??? pf-maybe???}LMFAO!!!!!!!!--XD

  • Opener from The Doobies' current tour!

  • Good riddance Michael McDonald.

  • WOW THEY SOUND GREAT!

  • I still gotta say that if I was on a desert island, and they gave me only 1 album or CD to listen to, I'd still pick the Doobies Greatest HIts. These guys deliver, they give it a 110 percent, and they still rock my world. Marc Trainor.

  • @Riverlover68: That is strange why they aren't in the R&RHOF yet, since most of their contemporaries from the 70's most likely already are (hip hop groups aside).

  • THIS SONG ORIGINALLY HAD SKUNK BAXTER ON ONE OF THE LEADS I REMEMBER THE ALBUM COVER THEY WERE ON HORSES GALLOPING ACROSS THE DESERT

  • MIKE MCDONALD WAS A GOOD FILL IN UNTILL THE DOOBIES FULLFILLED THEIR CONTRACT THEN TOOK A BREAK THEN STARTED RIGHT WHERE THEY LEFT OFF WHEN TOM LEFT AND THE REST IS HISTORY

  • @sheddski don't you dare. you discredit the integrity of the doobie brothers when you diminish even one of them.

the doobies made the eighties bearable.

  • no, its cause they sell tickets at 5 bucks and they still couldn't sell out the hampton coliseum. But i still wish I could of saw them BUT doobie brothers denied (inside story)

  • @rwk1983 Huh? 5$?? Must have been a sponsored event.

Ticketprice of almost all Doobie concerts is $25 or more (Ticketmaster)

  • Tom Johnston...not Johnson

  • Great song!

  • God...it's GREAT! Thanks! Wish I had a Doobie! LOL.....

  • God...it's GREAT! Thanks!

  • I got to see them at the Art Park in Lewiston, NY back early this year.

  • remember being a kid and laying in bed, trying to stay awake to find an AM station with good reception and what a thrill it was when THAT SONG would come on

  • You gotta love this shit here.

  • @Riverlover68 They will always be in my hall of fame...

  • IMHO Thee Best RockenRollen band of all time. I finally got to see them last year

for $35 at the Rockingham County(Va)Fair, and they absolutley blew me away!

I just wish John Hartman(drums)and Tiran Porter(bass)were still playing with

them-The Legerndary Toulouse Street LineUp!!! The difference between The

Doobie Brothers and The McDoobie Brothers is the difference between Heaven

    and hell. Uncle Joe

  • i love !

  • Anybody else think that it's a travesty that the Doobies STILL aren't in the Rock Hall of fame, yet? Hit #11 in Billboard. God bless!

  • Yes I think that it is a travesty. The Doobie Brothers are GREAT! They should make it. I was lucky enough to see them here in Little Rock in 2006.

  • all i can say is.. I KNOW YOU'RE LEAVIN LEAVIN ME BEHIND I'M SEEIN' YOU DARLIN FOR THE VERY LAST TIME.

  • Motown song

  • As long as there's music people will be happy. This gang mentality as to what's right to listen is a bit wierd. Alabama 3 destroy all borders...(and create a few, no doubt).....ho hum...I love you all xxx

  • I stand by my statement, Rettro Dood. The subjects you mention in rap do exist, but are only a portionof what rappers express. In fact, many rappers are expressing the same message as our classic R&B and rockers, such as Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, John Lennon, EWF and even Michael McDonald. Several female rappers have also taken the gangster rappers to task for the very images you express. Check out Will Smith's "Summer Madness" or TLC's "Waterfalls" with Left Eye's rap.

  • Best version I ever heard much more energy than any of the older "Motown Sound" versions...also love the strings in the studio version.

  • I love this music, but I don't want to be too quick to dimiss today's HipHop. Much of this 70's rock was and still is similarly dissed. It is sad, however, that many talented rappers are at the top one year and then forgotten a few months later. That's a neat bit of info, BreekieMe. Thanks for posting.

  • "Talented Rappers"?? An oxymoron! There's nothing memorable about shouting monotonic pap about "ghetto life" over the top of stolen loops from artists who could actually play! (And insulting us further by making videos about pimps in Cadillacs complete with gold chains, bitches and 'ho's). Kids grow up. Two years on, they won't give a shit about a dummed down poem!

They're more likely to remember stuff that their parents listened to... like The Doobies, Beatles, or Stones!

  • The Doobies' homage to Motown...

  • Absolutely! Without Tommy, it just aint the Doobies!

  • These guys, and several others, are the backbone of music. They are genuine, unpretencious, and fun. When did Eminem do anything for anyone?

  • Hip Hop's popularity is more a statement of our quick fix society than anything else, same as rap. It may be classic rock, but the fact is these bands are still making a lot of money the old fashion way, They also have a big following of all ages. Lets see how many rap and hip hop stars are still selling out at concerts decades from now.

  • They still & undoubtly make significant bucks - but let's not forget the Doobies do charity much much more than most of us are aware of....

  • Kikkazz! 5 stars!

  • I second the comment.

  • Thank you for your intellegent comment

it's about time I heard someone who wasn't trying to legitimize that hip hop bullshit.

  • It's ironic that their greatest commercial success was during the Macdonald years, 1976-81. But in the end they became a live band first and that was always their greatest strength.

  • Yeah...Tom Johnston...ooooooweee Bad Mofo, that Pat aint bad boy.....shhht yeah

  • You know, I hate Hip-Hop too, but get a hold of yourself. The reason they sell and make "Millions" is because that's what a lot pf people want. Look at Jazz; kids spend thousands of dollars for schools like Berklee and what do they get? No one wants to listen to that stuff anymore. This music is classified as "Classic Rock" (i,e, from the past). You can get pissed all you want. You ain't making the big bucks, and either are the Doobies, anymore. Deal with it!

  • who knows tbh, they might have a hit with their new album their bringing out soon

  • I know one thing, they have made a whole hell-a-lot more $ than you ever have made in your pessimistic sloppy ass life has ever made... modmusik... get a life..and stfu..

  • The Doobies were almost ridiculed in the 70s coz their manager invested their money in real estate - they bought the Pacific Bell buliding (I believe) in San Jose - before the IT revolution was even a glint in the eye of the computer world. Guess who's laughing now?

  • Thanks also for donation Million dollars to charity in New Orleans!!!!!! You are a great.

  • The Doobie Brothers never let you down at one of their concerts. You leave with a smile on your face, I did Aug 9th, my friend Lisa and I danced back to my car. They still look great too!!!!

  • simply one of the best sounds ever...doobies, little feat, tower of power, supertramp...nothing out there like these bands...man Johnston just hasnt slipped a notch...hes still got a great great voice, as does pat simmons

  • Tom Johnston has not only a cool great rock & roll voice, but it's the type quality/ tone he has that you know it's him immediately, he has been blessed w/ that & he combined that w/

great guitar skills & one of the best writers of some classic rock we all have come to know & treasure..keep rockin Tom,Pat, & Tirone.

  • I love the Doobie Brothers. I love watching them in concert! They are the best! My Dad is my hero!!!!!

  • He's my hero too, Lara! Have you tried this one yet? Check out the Kim Weston original, which may suit your style better than your dad's version.

  • You go girl. Your Dad is awesome.

  • Too cool.

  • Just saw them in St. Louis with Chicago! They were great! Chicago and the Dobbies got together in the last set. They really complimented each other Horns, guitars, slide and drums. It was a great concert!
