  • @jedwardsgoldenbrick celtx is free dumbass

  • yeah i know i was looking for it and something on there was 40 dollars or something update thing may be i dont know

  • celtx is free. the studio suite is a paid subscription but the software alone, what you need, is indeed free.

  • I dunno where you got YOUR copy of Celtx then...

  • i wasnt reading it properly it is indeed free

  • helped alot, thanks.

  • its actualy 5 min

  • writing and making a films and anything else on filmmakers make on low budject scale.

  • I was on a tour for a film school, and the guy working there started talking about learning how to write scripts. He then mentioned that we will learn about what happens when a script is changed during the production. That the pages are in different colours. such as yellow, orange, etc. They all mean different things something like this colour means its changed, this colour is totally new added part, etc.

Does anyone know what the different colours of the page mean? & what colours there are?

  • i go by

Red: Super important and drastic change

    Orange: Big Change

Yellow: A normal change. (may not be used)

or Blue: Basically a suggestion while in production.

  • is this what YOU do, as in these are the colours YOU chose, or ones that are actually used on a professional 'Hollywood' script?

I want to stick with the right colours than be changing it up later down the road and getting myself and others confused.

  • awesome tips, thanks guys :D

  • I often write in MS Word, sometimes in Celtx, sometimes in Final Draft and Sophocles.

    All are good.

Microsoft Word for screenwriting is not as hard as you think, and if you are making your own film, if the margins are not 100 percent accurate, who cares.

Hollywood never used to be so picky. Indeed, making your own films equals making your own rules, and for control freaks like me, that's bloody perfect.

  • What if the characters are doing something between the dialogue? Let's say, at 2:03 Bobby kicks a can after his line. Where would I put that in your example?

  • probably say it like the "bobby sits alone at a table" thing or in brackets or like "HAWT!!!! *kicks can* etc"

  • That was really nice. Great work

  • nice video man.

  • you pass

  • Thank You

  • 2:33

This is what I'm trying to tell my co-workers!!!

  • lol im going to write a script

  • I think if your going to write a script for the first time just write it all out in something like word & forget about spacing, margins & all the technical aspects of script writing & just get it all written. Then once you feel your finished worry about making it professional & readable for others. As a first time script writer you dont want cloud your mind with issues that are'nt relivant at that moment in time.

  • Hey!

Can you guide me in making short film through still photographs?

    Thanks

  • Look up the motage film technique.

Look up the film. La Jette on youtube. Its a french film, in montage.

  • cool.... thanks I have got some different idea after viewing couple of films

  • cinema paradiso was amazing! one of the best movies out there.

  • I can't afford to make my own movie. I have to go the sending it to a studio route. It's like winning the lottery, somebodys got to win it eventually.

  • So true

  • Thanks for the program. and it is true that if nots not formatted properly, or its too long, or this or that, they won't even read it.

  • steve i love you!

  • Thanks for the vid!! Great stuff!

  • agh! i can finally proceed with hanging myself!

  • every1 in the movie biz say fuck Hollywood lol but nice video

  • Haha yeah, especially steve. Traumatic hollywood experience maybe?

  • I think you guys have a grudge against hollywood but i dont care i love this show and it helps me alot

  • great video...but do recommend the same format for someone who has never wrote a script before...i am applying to school for theatre management and production and that is one of my requirements to get in. I would appreciate some insight from on the steps i should take to make this possible...thanks

  • Useful! I chuckled when he had his face slapped!

  • you should almost never write parentheticals in a pro script. Director and writers hate them and usually black them out first thing.

  • Yep. Almost never. I agree.

It's so hard for me, because I'm really new to writing film scripts. I wrote theater scripts where they came naturally. But, yeah, minimal.

  • "writing your script can be extremely difficult." understatement of the year!

  • I second that.

Well, wrting a good one anyway...

  • MAYBE YOU'RE IN THE WRONG BUSINESS HUH

  • thanks i had to make a 30 page script for school and this vid helped a lot

    thanks again

  • This was very helpful and hilarious, thank you.

  • This was a pretty good guide. I definitely think that it's true that reading books, watching films and even listening to music is a good source of inspiration, because I think the brain is a bit like a computer in that what you take in really affects you. Take inspiration from the great stuff and start coming up with your own unique ideas.

  • because...F*** hollywood. right on.

  • ITS NOT LUPUS

  • very useful advice ..thanks ...

  • Hello, I'm a huge fan just like everone else and I was wondering if you and Erik could show us how to make a noose and how to make a neck snap? thanks-DancesWithTurtles0-

  • Ok What if you have writen a script already and have little money and no editing skills how would you start making your film?

  • I love this channel. Indy Mogul has taught this aspiring actress new to film (theater taught) all about film, and the OTHER side of the camera. I'd like to see tips for actors by casting directors or directors experience.

    love <3 <3 <3

  • i wonder how many times indy mogul has sent his scripts to hollywood?

  • just enough to make them go independent

  • CELTX ROCKS! Thanks Steve!

  • this helped more then this book i baought were more then half of the book was nothing more then a biography of the writer then 20 pages left out of this 100 page book on how to make a script.

  • falling in love the the invisible friend HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

  • thanks dude your videos help alot!

  • Dude, this is aweome.

  • Do your warst!!!

  • What does EXT. and INT. mean

  • external and internal.

  • Internal and External its for shots, like where they are

  • exterior and interior (outside or inside).

    -jared from indymogul

  • cool, and learned something new to today also!

  • hmmm...does anyone know where i could get a (reasonably priced) screenwriting software? it doesn't seem like the kind of thing you could get from RadioShack...

i really appreciate this video; i just think that since i'm particularly disorganized when it comes to starting on a script, something like that would be helpful to me.

  • if you dont mind downloading off of limewire you can get one of the better softwares called Final Draft it is really awesome it automatically gives you proper set up and everything.... but if you dont really care about that kind of thing do what i do when i am not at my laptop (the one with final draft)... just use word and have the slugline (ie. EXT - ROOM - DAY) and action lines be left alligned and have your dialoge parentheticals and characters centered, and dont forget to use courier font

  • well celtx which was mentioned is really simple to use, i figured out how to use most of it within a few minutes

  • i am using it right now lol

  • you fail!

    i dint learn anything

well myt of helped if i listened better bt

    yeah

  • no it helped me alot so you must just be a lazy bastard

  • lol i dint really listen to it so thats why

    only listen to lil bits

    so it my fault :(

  • then why are you complaining?

  • yeah i got celtx and im already writing a script for my movie

  • "Go get your little degree and brag about it, we will be here MAKING movies while you're paying $30,000 to learn things you could teach yourself.

    "

    Wow. Bitter huh?

I wasn't chiding the idea of indie filmmaking, I was just mentioning that some of the films mentioned weren't the best. I can tell you're a fan of Tornatore, but there are frankly better filmmakers out there than he.

Spoorloos, is a classic. Also, watch "Funny Games" The original Haneke version.

  • "A Pure formality"? I don't think that's a very good film. Here's some better suggestions:

    - The Belly of an Architect

    - Spoorloos

    -Raiders of the Lost Ark

  • To each his own, those were just my picks. I'll have to watch your first two (already a fan of IndyJones).

  • cool i got the celtx thing and it is awesome. it really helps

  • The 4 Minute Film School, Is a great idea. I'm starting my own production company with one of my buddies. I would explains things to him and he would get confused. Now all I do is make him watch Indy Mogul....

    Thanks

    MXPOWERS

  • no offence to you guys at Indy Mogul, but you all said you had no film school experience. So why should you be giving a 4 minute film school? When you have no experience in film school?

  • who said u had to go to film school to be good at film? Ur a close minded viewer. so STFU

  • I'm not closed minded. Lets put it this way, would you want someone who never went to medical school and learned to be a surgeon to operate on you?

  • it is completely a very different story.

  • It really depends on the area of experience. Surgeon and film maker-- far apart.

  • You're basically saying that people who don't go to film school shouldn't make movies with a line like, "would you want someone who never went to medical school and learned to be a surgeon to operate on you?". And that's probably the most ignorant thing I've heard today. Go get your little degree and brag about it, we will be here MAKING movies while you're paying $30,000 to learn things you could teach yourself.

  • That´s a good comeback man ...

I heard much of those crap, as I made my first movie with 14 I think.People told me to stop writing because I did´t really know how to make a script or just because they thought so.

I like you and your work...keep on man. :)))

  • Usually I have a favorite quote, today I was torn between two:

"We'll even give you the noose!"

    &

    "F**k Hollywood"

  • I liked weekend extra but this is more valuable to me

  • even tho weekend extra was good, great idea with the 4 min film school - good foundational tips in this vid - im def interested to see what else you guys come out with for this!

  • when wiilbjhbuj hyfytf gvctt ytyugyhbj utf6tf 5rtdrt t fyry rs fydt5rter

  • ?????

  • I can't believe it! You guys didn't talk about the 3 Act story structure! That's one of the most important rules for writing a script!

  • I think you guys pass this four minute challenge.

  • I love Cinema Paradiso.

I also love good writing. These tips are great.

  • "They're just narrating, like... I... am right now. WHERE AM I!?"

    Steve is hilarious.

  • NO KEEP WEEKEND EXTRA!!!! -balls up in corner and crys-

  • booooo weekend extra needs to come back.

  • why no weekend extra?

  • :O HOORAY. i finally got a video camera (so i wont have to use the video setting on a digital camera) and i sat down one night and tried to make a script, but had NO idea what to write or how to start. i was hoping Indy Mogul would eventually come out with something about screenwriting, thank youuu <333

  • :(

i'm gonna miss weekend extra...but i AM excited about this, i think it'll really help me alot!

this helped as well, coz i have a hard time communicating my ideas.

any tips on how to communicate the specific shots i need? like if i'm acting, but i need someone to get a specific type of shot?

    thanks xx

  • if eternal sunshine, science of sleep, mirrormask, and the fountain fail to get your creative juices flowing... you don't have any creative juices.

  • That was a good first episode, the only thing I would change would be to take that timer off, it's a little distracting, and I'll believe you if you say it's four minutes. :)

  • im surprised this video's popular

  • well, the channel is popular.

(was that an insult or an innocent observation?)

  • Innocent observation..<=)

No, I'm asking because it shows how many people wanna get into the limelight these days. It's like they think they MUST have a hobby and publicize it or they'll be considered 'average'..

  • I don't know, I kinda liked Weekend Extra. I wish it woulda stuck around a little longer.

  • weekend extra was best! YAY Steves back!

  • This is five minutes

  • Without the advert it's 4 minutes, as the counter shows ;)

  • intro + advertizement = 1 minute

  • more influential flicks to get creative juices churning:

    400 Blows

    Annie Hall

    most early Roger Corman

the Basil Rathbone Sherlock Holmes series

    Polyester (directed by John Waters)

    Ikiru (directed by Kurosawa)

    the Zato Ichi series

Cyrano de Bergerac starring Jose Ferrer.

all remarkably well done, w/diverse camera work, each plot unexpected in content and all cheaply produced.

  • Im i the only person who cant stand those annoying adverts?

  • they are alswome!!!

  • No they are not and apples are better than bananas!

  • No I'm with you too.

Firstly, it made the "4 minutes video" 5 minutes, and secondly, they just come on randomly without warning and you're wondering what the f*ck just happened.

  • Yay, you mentioned Rushmore. Great movie.

  • MOAR STEVE!

  • omg!

    i requested this!!

woop indy mogule did what i said!!!

    that makes me GOD!!!

    -D

  • Thanx for using my tip.

  • F*ck Hollywood.

  • why do you censor yourself?

  • because it sounds amusing. plus, fuck hollywood, yeah.

  • i was refering to another commenter. Fuck Hollywood with a jolly dildo. There.

  • Indy Mogul!!!!

OMG that program is AMAZING!!! especially because its free.

I highly recommend it to anyone and everyone who is new and experienced with film making and script writing.

  • i love celtx

  • YOUR SCRIPT PROGRAM IS CALLED A WORD PROCESSOR. you don't need anything else.

  • Thats was my only gripe about the whole program right now. Besides that take away the time limit.

  • amen

  • nah celtx is great, plus its gets u the formatted script thing relly well

  • i'm not aposed to using it. i'm oposed to the thought prossess that you NEED it.

  • that plot structure is what we use for reading books in 7th grade @_@ damn hollywood

  • awesome

i wanna learn more about scripts

but i guess for the people who are flipping out

you could have vids twice a week or something

    one on this

    one on the other

    or one 8 minute vid

    4 mins on writing

    4 mins on effects

  • best part

    "because....f*ck hollywood"

  • this is awful.

only awful because I slaved for a long long LONG ass time to learn this shit by myself.

hahaha I wish I had this

  • love the new concept of going back to the basics instead of just teaching speacial FX.

    Indy Mogul ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!

  • who needs a script? all you need are tons of effects

  • writing a script is very fucxxng important... good fx are too

  • right...like youtube's Iggy35! He rocks... lots of effect ideas... no plot... perfect for youtube's short attention spans....ha ha.

  • I WANT WEEKENRD XTRA Sandess :(

  • yeh... But ERIK SMOKES???

  • Maybe he was joking about the parenthetical thing, but I read two books on screen-writing; and both of them said that you should try not to use parentheticals...

  • u used that comerceal last week and i want weekend extras or i am unsubscribing

  • "Metropolis" is a fascist bore.

  • that was good but the little time is kinda anoiing

  • Fuck this i'm unsuscribing I want weekend extra
