I made a 'home made' stuffing box. I placed a coil spring on the shaft , and put a hose clamp on one end.(on the shaft) The spring maintains pressure on a rubber washer at the thru hull. Drips a little, but functional
That's the coolest boat, I've had a similar idea in my head for quite some time. Did you buy or custom build your direction changer? That was my snagging point.
@DayDreamer2014 Any chance you could email me some close ups of that direction changer? Been looking for quite a while no luck. Also, did you use regular bicycle cranks with a pulley and belt? That's how it appears. trying to find something to make a "handsfree (paddlefree)" pirogue, except for a small steering rudder of course. If you don't mind this my email is LordBwithU@gmail.com, thanks Troy
thats cool. my dad used to build racing boats back in the 70's that looked very similar. strap a 7.5 hp. merc. on the back and you could do about 60 mph around that lake!
really nice lines on ya boat. very impressed!
