That just shows, what a big influence Ronnie James Dio had on music. Everyone tributes him: Iron Maiden, Opeth, Scorpions etc. That's one of my favourite Rainbow songs!
@DeathReaver10 The Ross The Boss version was ok, but the song is so much better suited to Opeth. Hail and Kill was amazing though, the singer was about 5 feet from me when he was standing on the barrier :D
If anyone's fit to do a Dio cover, it's Mikael. One day Mikael's going to die too, and if I want to sing Harvest or Burden or Windowpane on that day, I'm going to open by saying that it was sung by one of the greatest metal singers of all time.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
at least he acknowledges he cannot sing... which is no lie.
also his attempts at humor are pale... and well to pay tribute to someone you cared for and respect - can never be some fashionable thing. Opeth might think it is, but, I think it's not. Every time a song that DIO blessed with his voice, resounds performed by anyone - he lives again ! And he will be remembered, as a legend years from now...
@TotalHalibut : you 're not making much sence, maybe because you're missing a "with all" in the above sentence, but i do not see why Opeth are anything special. And the fact is Mikael, can't sing very well. It's a great thing that he's open about it.
I am so glad to find a good quality video of this magic moment... i was approximatively next to the guy who filmed this :) it was so much worth coming to bloodstock....
Man, I was hoping someone recorded this! An amazing tribute. Very emotional. Bloodstock is like one big family and we will have the Ronnie James Dio stage forever. Legend.
@duncangpudding Yeah too right, its soooooo cosmic we have to keep talking during it and not knowing the words when trying to sing along either. Bellends.
Anyway this is an awesome tribute, thanks to merhabene for uploading.
I love the guys talking in this. They really show there passion (the guys filming it that is) 'Catch the Rainbow' is brillant. Ah, Dio you really were fantastic.
@Mrmemania21 Sadly i have to totally disagree. The people talking over this were most likely just trying to tell each other how awesome this is/was a bit like when people constantly say how great something is to people to convince themselves and others. Sheep mentality. But i'm not going to talk about this now. I'm very happy the poster put this up as its awesome.
@Mrmemania21 ............it wasnt me talking,it was 2 pricks that had tried to push thru and when they realised they werent going to get thru they kept talking, didnt tell them to shut up till after the song as it was bad enough without me shouting over it.
@Mrmemania21 I look back on my comment 6 months ago and think 'that was quite aggressive' sorry about that. haha. what was I saying, must be having a bad day. Dio the legend!
I was there and this blew me away as i've already stated. I just wanted to capture this entrie song in my mind. So I will say one thing about the video. If you really were there and you think it's awesome you stop talking to your mate, you just listen and take it in and don't say a damn thing till afterward. Thats what happens when you really appreciate.... you don't talk about how amazing it is during...you just know. The people talking actually just don't get it or they would shut the hell up.
Um, I wasn't there and I usually don't talk during concerts. But all people aren't alike. I can imagine saying "oh shit, this is great" during a song in any bands live performance.
@yrrahyrrah Removed my last comment, turns out it wasn't the poster talking over the vid although i didnt say it was. But i feel my point still stands if your "listening" to something awesome....why pollute it with your own noise till its finished....thats all i'm saying. I get that people react differently, but thats just common sense. When Bleak was played I just had a massive grin on my face at the intro riff and probably "could" have gone mental into what there was of a pit..but i didnt. :P
This absolutely ruled. I was singing along like an idiot but there was real good atmosphere and feeling for the whole set and especially for this song. :)
I'm not a huge Opeth fan, but I do like them, and respect them as musicians. I like 3 things about this cover...
1- It's in honour of the best metal singer that ever lived, Ronnie James Dio.
2- It is very well done, not an exact replica, but has all the elements that makes this a great Dio song, and adds a bit of the Opeth flavor at the same time.
3- The choice is perfect for Opeth (with the moodiness and the mellotron and all that).
“The only way you can get good, unless you're a genius, is to copy. That's the best thing. Just steal.” - Ritchie Blackmore hmmm try the intro to "Little Wing" by Jimi Hendrix, Ritchie.
I am so happy someone recorded and uploaded this. Unfortunately it is near impossible to capture the true atmosphere and emotion that transcended upon the crowd when they played this song. I am not afraid to admit I shed a tear during this song. A true mind-blowing and fantastic experience that I felt with every fibre of my being. It was an amazing tribute to Dio
@TwilightHall i was right in front of akesson, against the barrier, when he did the solo i just stood there staring blankly into space listening to it. i think my ears orgasmed
@TwilightHall man it was fucking insane!!!! everyone around me all joined together lighters went up and so did the smoke, the whole crowd join as one
