  • Eh tito gobbi!

  • Love the way this Guy sings, but I think an unknown cavalier baritone by the name of Nelson martinez is the best I've heard....check him out...

  • No!!! Cono, no tiene testitura de tenor!

  • Ese hombre tiene tesitura de tenor :S

  • What is wrong with you people?! If Hvorostovsky wasn't able to deal with Rossini, believe me, he wouldn't try! But since his voice and technique let him deal with whatever it might be, it pretty much should shut your mouths...

  • Pietro Spagnoli's performance is better

  • @torrentmad Meh. What did I miss, is art a competition now?

  • @torrentmad Following your comment I've just watched Pietro Spagnoli sing on stage, and for me he was a bit heavy and as if pushing through some sounds. So I guess it's a matter of taste... We'll agree to disagree...

  • Hvorostovsky is a great singer... for VERDI, NOT ROSSINI

    What a horrible rendition

  • great singing and acting, loved every minute.Shame I live so far away from Europe and unable to see this guy live. Thanks for the video

  • 2:53 he bizzy showing skills, that he forget the rythmic feel..

  • it is a very nice largo al factotum , yet not the best . i would love to have seen him live. and this one is much better thanthe one you find by typing Dmitri Hvorostosky( largo al factotum)

  • beautiful voice

  • Great, just great! I'm happy I've listened him live!

  • Beautiful voice. A few minor technical weaknesses.

Try to relax more before you start singing (think of something else (a girl maybe))

it will help the technique. You are not about to be hanged, just sing.

Watch Roberto Servile singing the same aria here on YT. Happy and confident

  • @ForAll23 LOL Under what credentials are you to be critiquing someone like Hvorostovsky? If you actually knew the translation, then you'd understand that the way he acts this out is nearly flawless, as is his singing technique. Plus lets face it, Dmitri is WAY better than Serville. If you want to compare someone on this aria, try Hermann Prey. The only thing I would have liked to hear is an elongation of the famous Figaro passage. He seemed to rush through that a bit, but that's interpretation.

  • @tiwo1008

    LOL, this it is ridiculous.

I think I have written the text (long time ago), but it is definitely written for someone else, not to Mr.Hvorostovsky.

If I remember correctly, someone wrote to me and asked if I wanted to make an assessment.

How it ended up in this "thread", I do not have any idea about.

I have tried to delete the post but it does not seem, for some reason, to be possible.

Thank you for writing to me. It's embarrassing. :-|

  • Great performance very lousy crowd!!

  • I was driving in car and heard a radio program with him from his Verdi album.I must say it was the BEST SINGING OF A BARITON IN VERDI ARIAS that I have ever heard.

This is live, and more leggiero. In the program he sounded better then even Gobbi ,Leo Nucci or Merrill. I sing this aria as an exercise,(puti it on youtube some days ago.) I am a High C tenor.O sole mio,Di quella pira,Che gelida manina....Vould love to sing a duett with this great bariton.... karifrid@hotmail.com

  • I was at Royal Opera House last week to see him as Rigoletto. He was superb!

  • What a mess.

  • Great voice on that guy.

    Superbly sung.

  • He's lovely, his voice is lovely.....BUT I think this is a little out of his fach....I kinda just see a Verdi baritone singing more lyric stuff....this needs a more lithe voice.

  • what a small ass crowd

  • bellissima interpretazione!!!!!!!

    tutto perfetto

    veramente molto piacevole.

  • no comment. bravo only

  • 2:52

  • I saw him doing the part of Figaro live in Berlin in the mid 90's. He was awesome! (And sang every high A you can possibly take..:)) I prefer him in this repertoire over his Mozart renditions. My opinion. Tahnks for posting

  • You're welcome. Mid 90's? Wasn't it perchance with Larmore? By all means, it must have been wonderful.

  • Yes it was. Absolutely wonderful. With René Pape as Don Basilio and Jennifer Larmore. And don't remember the rest of the cast, but they all were really good.

  • xDD bellissimo!! Vedere i sottotitoli in giapponese poi... bellissimo.

    Ciao =)

  • too many notes

  • Not only does he sound fantastic he has great hair as well !!!

  • bello ^_^

  • finally i see and hear dimitry and he's not angry-bravo!

  • He needs to do Le Nozze Di Figaro and play the Count. That would be so amazing

  • He sang the Count's aria at this very concert, check it out on my channel. There are also I think two videos from the opera with Bryn Terfel. But I think he fears that he would be too heavy for Mozart now.

  • Here is his great performance form Salzburg 1995:

    /watch?v=EpZ4KnZ7JJ0&feature=related

It`s a pity, that he started to darken his voice by force and because of that became heavier. He has a great voice, great stage presence, he doesn`t need to do that... voice is supposed to darken with age and improving breath control. Great talent, but somehow wasted in a "dark" way...

  • @LifeJuice90 Oh, he does. It's just shouting like he's singing heavy Verdi, nonstop.

  • @piasecznik

    Totally agree..

  • He is so surprsingly versatile! Ahhh I love him.

  • Reminds me so much of Bastianini:-) Bravo!

  • He's always been my favourite baritone! I've seen him live and he never disappoints :)

  • He's actually not in love with himself at all he did a Masterclass at my university and he had alot of humbling things to say

  • Congratulations! :-) @>--

  • Nice to see you here every thirty minutes :-)

If you prefer Hampson, watch Hampson's videos. You don't see me commenting under his videos on how boring he is to me. There's no accounting for tastes. Have a nice day.

  • wow thats a powerful voice!

    He did a great job!

  • Not a very responsive audience. He looked puzzled. He would be spectacular in this opera. He knows exactly how to do the comedy. Dmitri (with or without Juan Diego) would be the hit of the season in any opera house in the world.

  • This video is amazing! There is one thing . . . Almost every singer sing "la, la, la, la" instead "La, re, la, la, re, la", as written in scores. Frufruj, I must be pain in the ass for you, but please rewrite the lyrics, because many people don`t know this. Thanks for video!

  • It must be pain in the ass for the singer, altering between l and r, plus a and e. Sorry, I've encountered both versions of lyrics, didn't pay attention. He sings "La, re, la, la, re, la" every time, I believe. Whizz!

  • Thanks for correcting the lyrics. I tried to sing this aria and it is too much difficult. No wonder they sing: "La, la, la" . . .

  • Such astounding command of operatic patter! It is very hard for sopranos and tenors to execute it, let a verdian baritone! Thanks again so much for posting this frufruj! It shows a lighter side to his seriuos artistry!

  • @ivanplazacic I think it doesn't matter. I guess the difference between La ran la le ra as written in the score and what singers sing today is like the difference between Miau and Meow- style. Who cares what people in the 19th century substituted if they didn't sing words? At least no one's going to mistake Lalalalala for lyrics.

  • Very great voice and performans. Thahk you.
