  • So glad to see that SFU are back to their winning ways at the worlds...not to take anything away from FMM and Schotts...but I think that SFU has been ripped off a couple of times with the juding over the years...I think that they have always been a heavenly pipe corps to listen to...but the drum corps the past couple of years has really been top notch too...giving them that edge over FMM...congratulations to a great band!!!

  • my husband plays the pipes as well, he has been at it for 13 years! and he is rather good, not as good as these guys but still rather good.

  • Beautifully island,beautifully music,and every what'a scotish it's neatly.Greethings from Ireland.

  • this is truly incredible. what a display of musical power. the pipes and drums together. its perfect,

  • hey, chuckmaster!

a world championship winner can`t play bad music. you shows here only that you don`t know something about highest level music!

  • When he said "Bad ass" It's slang for great music. He wasn't saying it's BAD music he was saying It's great music.

  • i think he meant bad ass as in awesome

  • he called it "bad ASS"...wich is a complament.

similler to "the shit" wich is also a complament

  • "bad ass" means awesome. and yes the music is totally bad ass.

  • 'bad ass' is an idiomatic english phrase which means 'really cool' or 'great', 'awesome', 'amazing' etc, usually to describe something as tough, manly, hardcore, etc. 'bad ass' is a really good thing, means Chuckmaster likes the music lol

  • he means bad as in cool and the bomb i would suggest your get up with the words of the 21 century

  • he means bad as in the bomb meaning great

  • obviously your a little old cause Bad ass means good now adays lol

  • Bad Ass means good fyi

  • I take it you're not familiar with slang.

  • what he means is that its great. bad is good in the worlds of the street

  • actually bad ass is good. not bad, as the actual term may suggest. he is saying that the music is awesome.

  • Freddy,

I think this is one of those cases where "bad" actually means good. I took this as "bad ass" meaning "friggin' awesome" which I agree with.

I think that was the intent of Chuck (but I won't speak for him).

  • lol. freddylein, in modern vernacular "bad ass" is a very positive statement. it's as if chuckmaster said "wow, that was an amazing presentation of the highest quality of contemporary bagpipe music composition and performance". "bad ass" just has a bit more of a punch to it. honest mistake though

  • Thank you very much

  • haha, you thought he was saying it was bad? are you older than 50?

  • Chuckmaster means that the music was frikkin sick!

  • Lol, freddylein1, he wasn't insulting the band... he was saying, "bad ass" as in amazing.

  • Bad ass music.

  • a world champion ship winner can`t play bad music. you only shows here that you don`t know something from highest level music.

  • lol everybody took your comment the wrong way :P

  • hilarious

  • Do you mean crap... or bad as as in good? :P

  • Looking forward to seeing you at the Bellingham Highland Games June 6-7 '09. Great video production. Fantastic performance.

  • amazing

  • is that Alistair Dunn at 1:43?

  • I'm only a grade 3 piper and these guys inspire me

  • Man every time I hear them play I'm blown away. I'm only grade 3 piper, almost grade 2, but no where near the level of these guys yet

  • I'm a grade 3/2 piper and these guys inspire me a bunch

  • I'm only a grade 3/2 piper and I'm blown away every time I see these guys play

  • I just noticed (in the slow air) that Terry is playing a pibroch High A. Does he always do that?

  • id love to see this live , can any one get me tickets for next year? possibly a place to stay ?? !!!!!

  • There is only one way to describe this...amazing!

  • That's my school!!

  • The little boxes on the video didn't tell the whole list of the songs played here. They are as follows: Cosmos Cascade/The Snuff Wife /The Atholl Highlanders /The Braes of Locheil /Munlochy Bridge/The Top of Craigvenow/Mrs MacLeod of Raasay /The Braes of Locheil (reprise)/Mrs MacLeod of Raasay (reprise)

  • wow just wow

  • Amazing....

  • best medley ever is the 2005 one. the last two tunes are awesome. Dr macphaills reel is simply the best, and only they play it just right.

  • Capital Awesome!

  • anyone know were i can find the music for cosmos cascase and the atholl highlanders jig style?

  • so did you like the tunes i sent you?

  • superb !

  • he forgot to name the first Strathspey

  • what a phenomenal medley! and every single piper sounded as if they were one the whole time, not to mention, the tunning was almost 100% immaculate.

    great job Simon Fraser University!

  • At 1:58, the second from the left, Simone, taught me

  • Just beautiful! Apart from the daft black socks and blue shirts.

  • Some people have Pearly Gates.

    This is mine.

    Wow. Just wow!

  • Outstanding. Ive followed the band for a long time and this winning performance had everything for me. Brilliant stuff.

Here's hoping for more of the same this year.

Go SFU and Good luck !!!

  • The best band in the World in my opinion.

This particular medley blew me away, the best combination of tunes I've ever heard.

    Well chosen and brilliantly executed.

    Keep it going SFU !!

  • Terry Lee's fingers look positivley wicked in this clip, it looks like there just twitching but you know he's snapping off beautiful clear gracenotes every time

  • Epic.

  • How much money does the first place grade I band win at the Worlds?

  • omg, how incredible, eh?

  • Brilliant :)

  • WOW!!! I love the Athol Highlanders arrangement!!

  • WOW!! I loved the Athol Highlander arrangment!!

  • Great band even greater drumsection, i think reid maxwell is one of the most creative leading drummers lovely to listen to

  • YEA SFU!

  • They are even better in real life!

  • Ya know, I'm not sure it gets any better than this!

  • Apparently it didn't that year.

  • THe snuff wife hornpipe/ jig

  • Amazing! making all Canadians proud!

  • I think this is the best Medley I have ever heard. I wish I was there to hear it live.

  • It was awesome!!

  • Beatiful :)

  • The greatest pie band medley ever played at the worlds..................

  • mmmmmmmmmmmmm pie

  • Anyone know the name of the song at 4.55 of the video? Thanks.

  • The tune starting at 4:55 is a reel called Mrs. MacLeod of Raasay.

  • my last name is macLeod! and i do play th pipes!

  • Wow

  • You play pipes.... but your not good :P ( yet ) keep practicing

  • Haha, thanks a lot for the name of that song, but whats the songs after that? =D Thanks in advance!

  • If you cannot find it, its on the scottish Pipers Club! (Join all kinds of tunes are on it, like humors of Tulla, Mckenna's Ceilidh and Mrs. Macleod of Rassay!)

  • Love this medley the ending is the best :)

  • Top of Craigvenow as a medley strathspey-brilliant! Just shows how what it's supposed to look and sound like in a pipe band; all the hard work and everything else involved in running a pipe band. You guys are a class act.

  • ok i've been wondering about this for awhile, in every video i see Jack Lee plays a high A with an E finger down instead of the D like at 3:06. Can anyone explain why he would do this?

  • That's Terry Lee playing the old-school high A with the middle finger down.

  • from what i hear his brother taught him that way

  • @piperdude its also a pioberachd high a...excuse the spelling..ive forgotten it =P

  • @piperdude its also a pioberachd high a...excuse the spelling..ive forgotten it =P

  • @piperdude i play the high A the very same way

  • I know this is an old comment, but some more old school players keep that middle finger down because of piobreachd embellishments, its easy to transition through them, also, some people do it to sharpen the high a I think. idk, my PM plays that way too and those are the reasons he gave me.

  • @bagpiperofmuffins

thats the F finger mate, Burnaby what ?!

  • @bagpiperofmuffins it is what is a called a pibroch High A, those of us of a certain age were taught both !! If you watch him he changes between both High A's depending on which is the easiest !

  • @bagpiperofmuffins That is certainly the old-school (and very traditional) method of playing the high A. I wish I could do it!

  • @bagpiperofmuffins i play the high A the very same way

  • Anyone know what the first tune's called?

  • Cosmos Cascade I believe

  • The first tune is called "Cosmos Cascade." I love their jig rendition of "Atholl Highlanders" though. Absolutely fantastic.
