@raoultak Francescatti IS really good, and he is the best at playing this concerto, but for a student who is just learning this piece, I personally think that Chung KyungHwa is the best. I get a feeling from Francescatti that he takes the rhythm as he pleases, while Chung takes it as written.
I love this interpretation except it has alot, I mean ALOT of sliding to notes in the lyrical passages. That is not to say that it ruins the preformance, but it's a little excessive. I still love it though, the best interpretation I've heard (even with all the sliding) :)
at least now i don't feel so bad for playing this piece slower, unlike most other recordings...it was like super fast. but her playing is nice...i enjoyed it. =D
When you say "a little harsh at the beginning..." Everybody does it that way, sometimes even rougher, because it's supposed to be like that, martellé ("hammered") and entirely on the G string, that's why it sounds so throaty and a little rough.
If we compare music with poetry this is really valable Here! This interpretation is so good,I blame only that Ms Chang abandoned carriar after injured,I dond't know what happened exactly, life is not Fair!\

i dont know. im not really moved by this interpretation. im not especially moved by chung's interpretation of anything. dont ask. i dont know why. personal preference, maybe. it feels too done up. sometimes i just wish she would keep it simple, like in the dolcissimo passages. thats just me.
I think that is fair opinion. However, as for me, I love how everything she plays is carefully considered and thought through before hand. I also love her "dig in the string" approach. She has played that way since the very beginning as you can hear from her earliest recordings ( Tchaikovsky and Sibelius) which many people have complained about how the double stops are scratched etc. which is the same for her later recordings (i.e Brahms Concerto with people complaining of it being too violent)
ahhhh im proud to be a korean(:

fantaaaaaastic performance. maybe my favorite, aside from Vengerov's

I find she takes the lyric passages way too slowly and her chords sounded kinda wimpy.

Anyone ever heard Saint Saens Violin Concertos 1 and 2 ? They must exist if this is Concerto No 3 ?

Maybe......look and listen to Francescatti. He is from our old generations, but......what do you think? Wasn't he the master of this concerto? Ever?

Incredible musical phrasing. A little harsh at the beginning, but all the other sentimentality is gorgeous!

She is rather rough, but her heaviness is right for this piece.

she's kind of rough, but i love her for that.
i think this piece is well suited for her.

she has a lot of rubato since this is a romantic piece, not a little
ninjax456456 2 years ago 2
Agreed. This is very well done, makes perfect musical sense. I don't know what people mean it's "too much".

agreed, the tempo is all over the place.... a little rubato is very good, but this goes way over the top

However that is not too say that she is incapable of playing in a lyrical way which I think is another one of her major strengths as a violinist.
Fr3derick 2 years ago 3
...I think her playing is generally extreme with her playing having the widest range of dynamics I have ever heard in a violinist.
Fr3derick 2 years ago 5
Yes but if you don't play double stops that way it sounds whimpy, or at least diluted.
