The moon is sacred to many varieties of cultures and people, not just Muslims. You are special, but not more special than anyone else on this world. We are all equal, and all deserve to explore our only GOD given gift, which is our curiosity. It may end badly, but that's all we have. Our right to understand what we don't. I believe in a greater power, but that wont stop me from satisfying my instincts.
