  • Splendid interpretation boys! The ol' redneck woulda been proud of ya!

  • tempos a little on the fast side, but sweeps at 1:43 are godlike

  • damn i bet god is listening to this too

  • INCREDIBLE!!

  • Amazing! Tommy always seems like such a nice guy!

  • Damnn i can't believe me ears hahah, iam looking for the smoke to come off from the guitar.

  • hourse!!!!!

  • Great picking!

  • Well, i'ts brilliant of course but........ I have heard better versions(my humble opinion)

  • Where? Please, do tell.

  • on youtube of course, where else?

  • antoine dufour 'four hands guitar

  • I watched both versions. Very good, yes. But not even close to what Tommy and Michael do here. Seriously. I don't know if you guys are just talking out of your asses or actually belive that those versions are better. Either way, this duo rocks so hard even Chet and Jerry would be impressed themselves.

  • or, alternatively, we are all entitled to our opinions and if you dont like that then go die horribly

  • I don't know where this hostility comes from (I suspect it's the amount of machoness the internet gives to some people) but hey, don't let it make you look stupid. I respect different opinions. I just don't really see why and how but, yeah. If you wanna make this a flame war, go ahead. I rest my case. With a weird face. =|

  • tit

  • Antoine dufour's version for 1

  • whoa guys watch the tempo

  • I don't think he tries to play to fast one quick peek into how fast Gareth Pearson plays it spoofs that myth. Maybe Michael was ahead of the beat instead of behind it still sounded great. Tommy for sure though is yinyang he wants everything to stay musical but if you catch him soloing there is a bit of wildness which can give the impression of impressionism but hes so great it doesn't matter lol!

  • Great playing, no doubt, but...

I don't get why Michael tries to impress Tommy. He plays way too fast and makes numerous mistakes - if I hear right. He plays awesome of course, but he gives the duet the feeling of a competition. :-/

    - My opinion - :)

  • Tremendous. Not only playing this tune, which remains the bench mark for pickers, but to do it with TE backing... Ace.

  • Freakin' awesome man. What an amazing experience that must have been.

  • I went to see Tommy and his brother Phil live back in the 80's at a pub in Brisbane Australia. As well as being the best players they are both entertainers and the funniest on stage. Keep an ear open for Phil Emmanuel. He's just as good as Tommy

  • Man, sweep picking on an acoustic.. boggles me brain.

  • And with a thumb pick.

  • Chet's Superlick is always a head turner/jaw dropper. Tommy gets away with it thrice. Great stuff.

  • Michael Johnson is running as fast as... hmm hmm. ;-)

  • This is not human :)

    My favorite: from minute 1:34.

I can´t believe what I see and hear...

  • Sure ;)

  • Too fast :(

  • If you've played a song for 30 years you'd play it a little faster too (than the original) also he's trying to impress the "the new guy on the block" -Tommy E.

  • Dam, sorry PapaNowel - clicked the thumbs-down by mistake :(. I agree with you - it's too fast by far and loses the swing because of it. Jerry and Chet's video, or the superb 'four-handed' guitar version is better.

  • That was the shiz nitz

  • fuckin' awesome sweeping in Tommy's solo~

  • Freakin' amazing. Tommy is the talented guitarist ever. He can play anything, but when he grabs a fast intricate tune like this, doesn't just play it, he OWNS it.

  • RIP Jerry reed your with ur mentor now well miss u

  • We are not worthy.....

  • Jeeesus!

  • #1. Tommy Emmanuel #2. - Phil Keaggy #3 & beyond......everybody else. End of story.

  • he's great!

but still not as good a JR

  • Real good BUT

NOBODY can do this number like Jerry and Chet!!!

  • I've been a Tommy fan for 2 years. My opinion, the best guitarist ever, living or dead. Only today I stumbled on this clip by accident, and I've watched it 5 times in a row. It's his best clip on youtube.

  • @neilmcdonell Wooooah, let's not get carried away. :-)

  • wow...you got to play with tommy..dude, freakin lucky!!!

  • Holy shit

  • Great,Loved it.Thanks for posting!!!

  • FANTASTICO!!!

  • Love it! That has to be difficult to play because of the tempo. Chet would be impressed! Would like to see about another 5 seconds at the end for audience reaction.

  • a lot of talent in that room

  • That was just tremendous! Well played! I would love to play with Tommy, but I'd probably poop my pants as soon as I see him pick up the guitar...not to mention I suck, but that's beside the point. Keep posting, this stuff is great :D

  • Jerry is F'in brilliant

  • Makes me laugh every time I see this! What a thrilling performance! Bravo!

  • mostruos

  • dalga mı geçiyosunuzzz!!! gerçekten çok başarılı...tommy emmanuel olması daha da etkiliyor...

that was really amaaaazing!!! look at that talented fingers.. i wonder howmany years tommy did practice :S

  • i'm glad i'm not a real guitarist so i can enjoy them - Its not about individuals its about MUSIC.

  • This is what happens when you put 12 guitar strings, two wooden boxes and 20 unbeleivably talented fingers in one place at one time. BRAVO! :-D

  • who cares about the 'better' player? It's so much fun w/out your comparisons.

Thank you for putting this up.

  • That was amaaaazing! Top notch playing from both of you, when Tommy did the sweeps it made me laugh. =D

  • Best acoustic guitars on Youtube and likely far beyond...I got shivers watching these videos SUPERPICKER...11 stars if I could to you and Tommy E... just made my year ...thanks...Teejay

  • damn!...quite a style!...I've been playing guitar and bass for 40 years and have a fair Chet Atkins down,

but after watching you guys, I think I need another 40 years practice!...Fast Eddie

  • Oh my.. tommy just did sweeps on the acoustic 01:42

  • You're Michael Johnson ? The one who played Skipper?

  • Yes, that's me. But the name of the tune is Skippy written by Buster B Jones. Thanks.

  • Sorry, no tab. It is in the chord of C major is about the only pointer I have. Good luck!

  • thats crazy.ive seen your waltzing matilda video and this one and it must of been just fun to have a chance to play with him. Ive been wanting to learn Waltzing Matilda for sometime now. any way you would have tabs or any pointers?

  • No, it's not just you. Tommy is the nicest guy in the world besides being the best guitarist also!!

  • Richard Smith is a fine player, in the vein of pure Chet. He is fluid and as smooth as they come. I think its fair to say that Tommy is in a different league. He is without peer.

  • Other way round ;-)

  • nope fine the way johnw26660 sed it

  • You were awesome, way to go! And is it just me or Tommy's actually the nicest guy ever?

  • Impressive stuff- you hold your own with Tommy, well done!

  • Your a world class guitarist! Your performances with Tommy are among the best I've seen. Where did these take place? Looking forward to more!!

  • Thank you. These were taken during workshops in Oklahoma City within the past 4 or 5 years. I have more videos posted. Just search for my name or mine and Tommy's. Enjoy!!

  • cool,very cool

  • Superpicker. Pure genious. Just as good as Jerry. You play it slightly faster
