  • that looks my friend walter at the begining, looks like his beadwork too... he dancn 70s

  • Please excuse the typing errors on the last comment. I was getting so angry at all I thinking about as I was writing about how badly we have done without any SHAME to them! It is a DISGRACE TO THIS VERY DAY!!!!

  • The Native Americans......ALL NATIVE AMERICANS SHOULD BE TREATED with the UPMOST RESPECT and of there were EVER a ROYAL FAMILY IN THIS COUNTRY, it BEST COME FROM THE INDIAN PEOPLE and I don't mean people from India either! I'm sorry to say that I am of the so called "white race". A race who came from another country truly BELIEVING it was a hood thing to murder and mame any people anywhere they step their foot! Well, it is WRONG, MR. WHITE MAN!

  • @kaugustson thank you for your words. A good book to check out is Why are all the black kids sitting together in the cafeteria? and other conversations about race by Beverly D. Tatum. I'm Yaqui and Chicana, and though these aspects of my identity are important they're not everything, just as I hope for whites being white isn't everything for them. There were "whites" that were against the inslavement of indigenous people, and were part of the civil rights movement.

  • @kaugustson (cont'd) and do not wish to be put on a pedastal for being indian, though I do hope our histories can be recognized, instead of a dominant history (which is from the dominant's race point of view) but it is not the view of all whites, and feel such words could be harmful to both your community and mine by affirming racial divisions instead of honoring each other as brothers and sisters. such words can bring shame, to both people off color and whites, making it more difficult to heal.

  • @Vanamari Very good comment, and I agree 100%. The American Indian lost, by attrition, but lost none-the-less, I harbor no ill feelings toward any of my "white" brothers or sisters. Only by co-existing in peace, can racial prejudices be put to rest. Although, I don't ever want to see the Mvskoke give up our heritage.

  • Keep Hammering..Super ..5 stars

  • doez anyone know what happened to Red Spirit Singers? they were in Southern Cali for many yearz & moved back to OK. if anyone has any info on them please write me!! we had some family stuff happen out her in Cali & i need to get ahold of Kenny Paul & Ken Hood! thank u

  • @StandzStrong did you do a youtube search of them?

  • from ARGENTINA ,, excellent!!!

  • liken da song

  • absolutely fabulous~i love you guys with all my heart

  • native american is a rich culture

  • why does that person have to use vulgar to mention about grass, is he high? or even about numbers?

  • It's suppose to be on the grass without sports numbers. You Fuckin square!

  • Grass Dance is a STYLE of dancing. It simulates the dance of the elders as they were beating down grass to have a flat space for tribal meetings, erecting homes....etc. It doesn't HAVE to be done on grass any more than Michael Jackson's moonwalk had to be done on the moon. If you are indigenous, why did I have to explain this to you? Never been to a powwow?

  • Makes me miss oklahoma even more, used to go to pow wows there every other week/month in the Anadarko and Apache areas..grew up there and man do i miss it

  • so they can id the winners go to 1 and find out

  • There is no "winner" of a spiritual dance. It's for the earth, not for entertainment.

  • If the dancers can't make a little to money to pay the costs of travel, there wouldn't be many powwows. Prizes are a more structured and "governed" method of gifting dancers and saying "thank you". Again, why did I have to explain this? Are you BS'ing about your Mewuk heritage? Or just starting to learn it? Do us AND you a favor: Before making statements to SOUND wise, ask questions to BE wise.

  • Where the fuck is the grass? and why do you wear numbers?

  • Yes it is NT is now a sport

  • Why the fuck do they wear numbers? this is not a sport or a contest!!

  • its a contest powwow

  • I'ts suppose to be a ceremony out side on the grass, not a gymnastics contest in a sports arena.

  • i agree- nothing beats dancing on the earth.

  • this is red earth powwow in oklahoma city

  • it's not about location you stupid hippie, it's about culture, it's just as powerful inside but white people dont get that, they like to belittle the native community even further by condemnig pow-wows inside. fuck you whitie.

  • much love from the alaskan tribes i am an athabaskan warrior from the bear clan

  • Awesome clothing - the guy at 1:13 looks fierce but his dancing isn't - in any case - imagine someone dressed like that coming after you back in those days...man...something I wouldn't want to see if I was a white man holding a flimsy rifle back in those days..

  • Sweet!!

  • Beautiful beautiful outfits. It just amazes me how gorgeous they are. <3

  • oh ma damn i havent seen my great uncle in well over 2 years he passed away and i see him in there thank you!! i do miss him and this brings me a lot of joy thank you thank you !

  • mann i seen myself i was a young bucc im in the green at the end i stoped late lol

  • I went to the all nations pow wow in Ada, Ok in Fall 2007 and loved it! I would love to go to more pow wows to watch the dances and see more of the Native crafts. I work at Discoveryland during the summers and get the see the fancy dancer there. It really makes me want to dance and be a part of the Native American spirit...not just through dancing, but also by doing Native crafts. However I'm not Native American, I just admire their culture, traditions, and spirit.

  • I love the dance outfits they wear. How long does it take to craft the outfits they make? I have only been to one Pow Wow, but I was so fascinated by the outfits. Seeing the dances they do on here, and the pride they take in dancing makes me proud of my Chickasaw heritage.

  • Hi Bel, Thought I'd respond to your nice comment. The regalia is very special. Most regalia takes an incredible amount of time. Some take several months to a few years, others take even longer. The amount of time it takes to put one together depends on many factors; finances, intricacy, time, help and the availability of the materials needed. Much is put into them, not just materialisticly but, you can say spiritually as well. They hold alot of meaning. Nice to hear you are Chickasaw.

  • kaptaino637,why dont you just fuck off and take your dirty, desperate ass off you tube coz im sick of seeing you trying to sell yourself on here, you must be pig ugly if you have to ASK for it

  • mohwahk pride as eagles soar but this is very good it is kool watching on a reservation

  • INDIAN POWER.

  • damn white man made them stop

  • What as wonderful spectacle. As well as the dancing, look at the craftsmanship in the spectacular outfits they are wearing - beadwork and featherwork - fantastic!

  • Awesome and beautiful, makes my eyes water. Never let the spirit or traditions die, it's something to be very proud of and I only wish I could be a part of it.

  • Very good video! Makes me miss my grandma- she saw her first PowWow at 72- and stayed for the full 3 days/nights. The Native Spirit is still very much alive, and I love to see all the beautiful dancers, keeping it alive! Many Blessings! Keep Dancing and Filming!

  • awesome video...too bad im a disgrace to my race im nothing like my ppl.

  • your never too late to start.

  • was present for the OCU 08 powwow, Only one word - BEAUTIFUL.. recorded the event and played it for frens & family back in Singapore. Loved every moment of it. Hoping to catch another powwow event.. U guys rock ya..

  • yo, watch WES MILES VIRUS videos y'all

  • Them fancy dancers was jammin..

  • I don't love nor do I like alot on this stupid planet, but I love native dancing, both men and women. Mostly the women.....! Beautiful.

  • I love the native american dances; love to attend the dances! God bless!

  • thanks to the Great Creator for beautiful Native American men! This is awesome.

  • Oklahoma City had a powerful storm that evening, I do know that one.

Lots of lightning, buckets of rain that Saturday, But inside or out I still like a gathering.

    Happy Holidays to all..

  • im sorry, im not old but i dont understand why the hell this is inside. Didnt the creator wanted us to do this out side where are true feeling would show. The true power of the powwow carries through the skys and winds, not through bleachers. Only college football where im playing should be in dome!

  • its most likely inside because i think this is red earth pow wow and its always been inside besides theres not much else to have a pow wow in the middle of oklahoma city

  • thank you for posting this warms my hart and make me miss home bless you

  • These are Oklahoma's people, I am One fourth Cherokee. These people have carried on their native tongue, as have most of the southwest Indians, The Tewa , Tewi, Zuni, Navajo, And Ute , Choctaw, Chickasaw, Etc. The young people are learning to speak their native tonque. Thank for letting me say this about the Native Americans i know,

  • :) i love native american culture

  • I hope all people that came to this continent as inmigrants or their descendants, to remember what was this great continent its original humanity.

  • true american culture.

  • you have all the reason, i am peruvian.

  • true true atlantajayhawk person its red earth but idunno bout lakota language thang.

  • hokageNaruto85 Native American Heritage month is in Novemeber.

  • Hey all I'm from Aotearoa and I wouldn't have a clue what the lyrics are but thats what I like the most the singing it's so powerfull, spiritual it's human.

  • not all songs are words. it like "la la la" in the english language just in native. some are words though. and what is with this spiritual. ok maybe but we dont stand around and praise creator all day. just parts.

  • hell yeah dancin to represent

  • I miss dancing

  • Good Lord! We're still around better than ever!

Upa kane chis, tai kañe nillancat, mapuches!!!!

    Pelican Chilean

  • U.N.I.T.Y. is going to Oklahoma this summer of 2007. Natives from all over the nation will be there with their tribe. Come meet new people, share your culture. Their will be entertainment; food and dances. Their will also be workshops for college and health...Last year UNITY went to Buffalo, NY, and it was fun. Research some more about it. See you there!

  • the tribal dances ar eamazin i myself am apart of the lumbee indian tribe in north carolina wen u do tribal dances something takes over u and u just want to do nothing but celebrate your culture n show thanks

  • for what its worth... Its an Inter tribal dance,, all styles of dancers dance at one time.. Nothing per se spiritual about that at all.The powwow or wacipi are dances of the great plains tribes and dont reflect ALL native styles. Do some research you wannabes

  • Jesus people..are ALL of you non native?>?????????? listen listen LISTEN to the song you will HEAR the words. For what its worth its Red Earth Powwow in Oklahoma City and the drum was singing in the Lakota language. why post if you are clueless?

  • Wonderful. Great to see the kids enjoying themselves.

  • I am studing native american culture I find that it is very interesting I like the ritual dances and customs. I feel really bad what happen that we (white man) destroyed the bulk of the tribes I think there should be a native american month if there is a black history month we should do the same for the native americans

  • hello,

there is.. I believe its Sept. I'm full blooded and I can't remember what month it is.. Its a sad day when a native cant think when native american month is...lol

  • Harmonious dancing. Very spiritual dancing. I think you guys and elders are very talented. I love to watch you guys dance!

  • Very sacred, very impressive, proud to know that despite the history of takeover, the spirit is strong and living (especially like seeing the young ones dancing too).

  • wth is a iiiiiiiiii yiiiiiiiiii

  • What are the lyrics to the song they're singing?

  • Some have words but the majority of the songs are vocables, passed down through the families.

  • So basically it's just ancient chants? Is it something you can put into words. If possible, could you put any Native American song into words? I've always wanted to learn one of those songs.

  • Yes, but depends on which song. Check on youtube search "Shoshone drum" or "Paiute Eagle Dance" and you can see examples of words in a drum song. They are other songs I added.

  • some tribes sing in thier own lang.some just chant..

  • @boston18967345 some songs are a mix of actual words and "words" called vocables - weh, ha, hay, ya, etc. I'm part of a drum group and some of the songs we sing are either all vocabales, or a mix of words (whether indian or english) with vocables.

  • If you hit some of my videos that are from the Paiute and Shoshone people doing old hand drum songs, they are old Great Basin songs with words that have meaning, like the Eagle dance. One song that Walter Hanson is singing is about a Shoshone boy who travels around.

  • This is very intense and beautiful to watch. My great-grandmother came from the Moneton tribe.

  • Is this red earth or Gathering of the nations or another PW. Man I miss this stuff. Nothing beats building a new set of bustles and showing up at a big contest powwow ready to rip it...Northern drums get me goin!

  • Native Americans...America's Gift to the World!

  • BEAUTIFULL,WHAT TRIBE IS THIS?

  • Pow wows are when different tribes get together and celebrate our Native heritage. So you will see different people from different nations dancing together. So they are from different tribes, dancing together.

  • Tnanks for viewing, mate.

  • My roots ... I am lonely ... I have fallen very far away from the tree ... this makes me feel something ... something good ... something that makes me angry and sad and happy all at once ... thank you

  • american people
