  • "Garden of Peace" is right up there with Prince's "Venus de Milo". Both of them are masterpieces. Beauty personified.

  • Listen to Stacie Orrico's "Is it Me" right after this! I always loved the intro to that song and now I know where it came from. amazing.

  • God this gives me so many chills... One of the most powerful songs ever in my opinion. It directly "hits" my sensitivity it's like the soundtrack of peace!! Also, Jay-Z did great job with this!!

  • this shit is amazing

  • This melody brings so much peace within that its not surprising so many people decided to use it. LLS has a way of touching ones soul. Thank you LLS for giving us this master piece to listen to, when we need peace in our life.

  • am i the only one who thinks of kingdom hearts while hearing this? btw i was brought here from a dnb song :D dave owen - still waters.

  • I want this as my funeral track

  • jay-z, mary j blige, OC list is infinite

  • He's a bawse.

  • not only does Dead Presidents sample this but so does You and Yours by O.C., which is another dope ass track, at a different point in the song

  • Kingdom Hearts or what?

  • @omar44zelda444 i said thst also

  • y si sampleamos esta gente??? xD

  • This that shit you listen to when yo back against the wall.. Them major 7 chords express that pain that only you feel and it talks to your soul.. and you vibe with it..

  • @drewgilchrist i used to listen to this all the time during those rough moments, it literally shakes the very walls of the heart everytime. but also now i'm listening to it during one of the best summers of my life, and it defines the ease that i'm experiencing. it's a garden of peace for the troubled, and a garden of peace for the enlightened =).

  • This is the greatest music ever composed. I have so many problems occurring in my life and when i put this song on repeat, all of my problems are forgotten. This truely is the Garden Of Peace. Thank you Lonnie Liston Smith for this.

  • GET MONEY... THAT MUSIC FROM HIM IS PASSED DOWN FROM THE MOTHER LAND... THE VIBRATION IS INCREDIBLE.!!! EXPLOSIVE AND LAID BACK ENERGY!!!

  • this sounds like the sample in plies song called "boosie"

  • @JRDollas732 You thought plies over jay z.... Good lord...

  • I want dead fuckin' presidents represent me

  • Bless Hm!

  • this shit is so on fire...fucking HOT!

  • As a Virginian I am proud that Lonnie Liston Smith is a Richmnod native. It shows that even offbeat places can produce people of talent and accomplishment!

  • @VibesMusic1 yehh I've got that too, really nice liquid take

  • Sounds just like the music in Chrono Trigger.

  • This melody NEEDS to be orchestrated.

    Its beyond beautiful.

  • Señores, esto es musica.

This song is exactly what i was looking for...

Too precious, kind of sad and angst...

    i can't stand...is overwhelming...

  • This song has a haunting beauty that reaches directly the human soul. Absolutely lovely in its simplicity.

  • best usage has to be Duo Infernale's Feeling Blue for me

  • 1:01 where it comes to life!

  • this the sample that started Jay-Z's solo career right here "Dead Presidents II"

  • @EagleDrumma ye man jayz dead presidents is what brought me here for the piano sample... great beats, great lyrics that song is amazing.

  • Plies - "Boosie" and trust me i think Plies is garbage. lol but maybe that is his best song. lol

  • One could argue that Lonnie sampled from Alex North's orchestral, produced classic Love Song of Spartacus for the 1950's movie. Listen to the original and while at it Listen to Ahmad Jamal's, an accomplished pianist, version of Spartacus. One could argue that Lonnie minutely tweeks his chords but only by a microscopic hair essentially his beat is solely derived from the Love Song of Spartacus.

  • Comment removed

  • man i wish this was a bit longer

  • "Presidents to represent me

I'm out for Presidents to represent me

Im out for Dead Presidents to represent me"

  • the drum and bass tune by dave owen called still waters samples this piano...makes it such a good tune!

    /watch?v=mhS3HqBYZS0

  • @DJMishMash1990 sounds like quite a mash up. im goin to listen to that immediately. thanx for that m8 :D

  • Everytime I hear this I reminisce about the old days. This music is powerful. It's unexplainable.

  • the one person who disliked this MUST have done it by accident

  • love this ...

  • Only 1 dislike daaaamn must have been a KKK member

  • Man, Ski has a fantastic ear for beats, considering how he was able to flip this.

  • this generation needs a bad pianist. not someone who works an electronic keyboard, but a concert hall piano

  • Even ABN sampled this bitch

  • @trill96 amen brudda

  • This song gives me a stiffy every time i hear it.

  • im glad the song was sampled if not i would have never found this song ;)

  • Kinda reminds of The Hulk, when Banner is always walking down that lonely highway, trying to thumb a lift...

  • love this!

  • im out for presidents to repersent me

  • music is music.. people like to agrue about nothing. just enjoy it.

  • If it wasn't for Hip-Hop, the younger generation...my generation...wouldn't know the likes of Lonnie Liston Smith, Roy Ayers, Lynn Collins, Bob James etc. DJs & Producers like Pete Rock and DJ Premier enabled me to discover timeless music that had been released way back when.

  • WAIT A MINUTE PEOPLE. Before you get all upset about the artists who've sample this tracks you need to remember two things. 1. Lonnie Liston Smith didnt have a problem with the samplings. In fact, he views the samplings (with royalties) as a compliment to his work (check website). 2. Everybody who has common sense musically knows that Lonnie deserves the highest credit. If it were not for Jay z's sample i would not have found out how great jazz was. They really do help keep jazz alive.

  • Very nice and peaceful song.

  • I bet he's pissed!!! Mary J's people shoulda seen this coming. Take Me as I Am is a good song but this really is theft...........

  • was blown away when I heard this on dead presidents II.

Now I hear the original...I can't even explain how beautiful this is

  • there really is nothing like jazz music

  • where can i get sheet music for this i cant find it anywhere

  • THIS IS THE KINGDOM HEARS MENU MUSIC, AND THE SAMPLE FROM JAY Z'S DEAD PRESIDENTS!!!!!!!!!! WHAT A CLASSIC

  • @biggxvato

omfg so im not the only one who thinks this sounds exactly like the KH music

  • @biggxvato it's not the music from the title screen; that's composed by yoko shimomura. they both have different chord progressions; just both sound very soulful.

but jayz did sample this, yeah.

  • soooooo good to fall slowly asleep to ahhh...

  • does anyone know if any rappers sampled this cuz i heard this before

  • @xxCherryDxx Dead President II - Jay Z is the most popular of the many songs birthed by this masterpiece

  • @xxCherryDxx and abn i miss my dawgs unreleased version

  • Beautiful.

  • you know we chop deez bitches

  • love this!! check da ski beatz vid related to this its a great video too!!

  • Dat piano sounds so sexy... gives me chills

  • this song + rainy mood dot com . thank me later

  • O.C. & Jigga!

  • i hate when people hear the original sample an artist had on their song and says "oh jayz or whoever sampled this" its the producer that samples 95% of the time you dumb fuck

  • @santinoakarush this may be true santino, but the artist is pivotal in helping to select a sample. At least that's how I do it. We sit down together and lounge out and politic on while the records play.

  • man! , That's Deep!

  • @Trentemo This Is Complicated And Tough To Play To Boot.

I Get Chills Every Time I Hear It!

  • man, this hits the heart.

play this on the radio, and i might,

just might, resurrect that motherfuckin junkbox

that was gracefully called the radio.

  • Jay Z sampled this. This is a beautiful peace of work. it should be respected

  • "I'm out for presidents to represent me"

  • Who wanna bet us...

  • I agree hip hop..essentially 90's east cost hip hop is an direct blend with Jazz I love this song, as well as the Dead presidents version from Jay-Z good music is good music regardless of what specific gerene

  • madlib and premo killed this sample...damn lonnie ur such a beast...wish there was more piano shit thats sounds like this

  • It's don't get any Better. Jazz, Jazz, Jazz all day long. I can listen to this In my sleep. Thank you mr.Smilth for your contribution to world. always, A jazz fan.

  • some of you may be interested in my video piece " Subway Garden of Peace" which uses this beautiful music.........

  • shut up

  • Doesn't it suck that people like him put alot of time into writing their songs and never get played on the radio or only get little public attention by being used or samped in a song...I feel sorry for songwriters..and instrumentalists..

  • the reason i found out about LLS was from a sample in another song, which opened me up to a whole new world of music.

  • this tune reminds me of an unsolved mystery that I can't make out......some void or something missing in my life

    Dead Presidents

  • o.c - you and yours

  • O.C - You and Yours....

  • I'm out for dead fucking presidents to represent me

  • I'm Out For Presidents To Represent Me

  • i feel so relaxed and peacefull when i hear this tune...give me that warm feeling in my chest

  • This tune was used in a movie or television show what it was I dont know

  • see jay-z dead presidents

  • This jam is so peace full. Reminds me of how joyfull and wonderfull the world coud be. I wonder what Lonnie was thinking when he wrote this.

  • I think about rain, the sea, and deserted places when I hear this song

  • i so agree this song soo sooothing so sprirtual every single note

  • How come on the reasonable doubt credits, it says: Sampled by Lonnie Liston Smith-Dreams of Tomorrow? I have the booklet right now and it says that. But then again this is the sample used......hmm

  • @NewYorkStateOfCrime That's the name of the album

  • o.c you and yours

  • soo many great songs came from this one sample

e.g dead president - jayz and take me as i am - mary j blige

tombe pour elle - la fouine ( anyone who knows french rap) and im sure many more songs to come

    love ya lonnie

  • kk baas

  • ja man

  • Comment removed

  • there is also french rapper, la fouine with the track calls tombé pour elle

  • But i don't like it..but he takes this sample

  • people need to respect that in many ways hip hop was born from jazz. real hip hop......

  • @digimon916 and now rap music is being killed by major corporations the same way jazz was.

  • @digimon916 Wrong, it was born from Funk/Soul music. DJ Kool Hurc back in the 1970's made break beats out of James Brown records. Then the Sugar Hill Gang sampled from Disco in 79. In 89 A Tribe Called Quest began sampling from Jazz and other rappers from that point on, including Jay Z, sampled from Jazz.

  • @digimon916

Peace and I see you know your music.

Just keep in mind a mass scam of trickery has been ran on black people

and the rest of the world.

Some people seem to think that religion will solve it.

They are confused, way to much arguing, division, passing judgement

and just self hate in full effect.

  • I love hip-hop with the jazz in it. Like old school common and ATCQ with real instruments and real jazz music. Dead presidents FTW.

  • @digimon916 The freestyle/improvisational aesthetic, the emphasis on live performing, and scatting is hip hop all day long, I don't care what nobody says! On top of that there's probably very few GREAT hip hop artists that couldn't at least tell u a little bit about jazz. Jazz IS the father of hip hop music and the further it gets away from the principles of jazz the worse it's going to get. If they think Gucci and Soulja Boy are bad, just wait another five years!

  • Theres Another Song by Lonnie Smith that is Similar to This.

Does Anybody Know the Name of It?

  • search up miss my dawgs by z-ro

  • "dead presidents" (Jay) and "take me as i am" (Mary J)

  • plus like 6-7 other songs in addition to that

  • damn really?

  • dead presidents

  • ....that IS this piece with drums, a bassline, and Jay-Z. I'm asking for songs similar to this, with a vibe like this.

  • look for soul music

  • if ur lookin for a similar vibe, u might like "rock/jazz concerto" (forgot the artists name). i beliveve it was sampled by 2pac on "when i get free".

  • sorry, the full title is "concerto for jazz/rock orchestra" by stanley clarke.

  • what are some other songs similar to this piece?
