@Grov22 The tuning possibilities are just as good on the Mazda, 290 is easily available with just a remap, well over 300 with stage 2 and 3. The Focus ST is also much worse on fuel, and the Mazda has a nicer interior IMO. Tax is only once a year, i bet the mazda is cheaper to insure so that makes up for it.

Ms3 peak rpm range is 3 to 4,000 rpms. Civic reaches optimal rpm range at 5,600 or so and vtec kicks in. The Mazda also has a turbo. I personally like the Mazda more, but respect the Honda.

Honda loses even with it's high compression, high lift - long duration cams, short runner intake manifold, 4-2-1 header and 8+K redline,, all of thee advantages and it's still too slow. That is a FAIL, my friend.
Im a Type-R driver myself. And comparing it to a MPS3 that´s got about 60 bhp more is just a joke. In a straight line the MPS will always win. Try it around a track and the picture is quite different. The Mazda lacks a differential and is quite a lot heavier than the Type-R.
Mazda 3's are nice cars. Not that Civics aren't but I prefer the 3. Better price, same or better options and zoom zoom movement. I mean Civics move nice too but Mazda 3's have an edge in that aspect. If you slap on F&R racing beat sway bars and thicker front links they turn into mega zoom zoom curve eaters.

type r is 2.0 litre with 200 hp vtec! but in this video the cars begin the race with 900 rpm! if type r begin the race with 7.000 rpm the mazda havent everything luck! the type r engine and all car is very good..very strong engine!

Hockenheim short MPS 1:19.60 vs Type R 1:20.40. Balocco MPS 3:03.65 vs Type R 3:04.90. Then the Ring MPS 8:39 vs Type R 8:47. Not that much faster, but still the MPS is faster round tracks. As I said before I dusted a few round the ring, but got destroyed by some hardcore german in a track prepped/modified Type R. Thats on the vid I got.

Check the stats, or drive them yourself, and you will tell that the MPS just has soo much more grunt. CTR 1/4 mile 15.2s @ 96mph, MPS 14.5s@99mph. CTR 0-100mph 16.2s, MPS 14.8s. Civic is a good car but the MPS has the beating of it on this occasion. The MPS clearly has a car length on the CTR in this video too...

I agree that the Type R corners better but then in real life you need a car that goes when you plant it (overtaking etc etc) not when you hit 5400revs before it decides to wake up. depends what you want the car for. Stfu pls. You got no idea about how market works and how cars are made to compete in diferent markets. The Type R civic was made to compete with the MPS, WRX, GTI, Megane and clio. The price range is all about the same, yes the diference varies quite a bit when you add "trims and extras" but the engine doesn't. Look at the latest Civic Type R for instance, it's the epic fail as it always has been in its original form.

well thats what an ep3 would cost after stroking and turboing it. if you did the work yourself it would be cheaper but usually people dont have all the stuff to tear apart an engine.
It would cost 20k to turbo and stroke it? Do some research before you comment there is no way it would cost that much. 20k on an engine is a fuckload of money and we're talking about massive HP gains.
if you paid to have it done you would be looking at around 20 grand give or take a couple. if you did it all your self it would probably be about 12-15 grand. you need to do your research. i know it would be massive hp im not an idiot. it still goes into the fact that the speed 3 is cheaper and fast. have fun with a type r stroking and turboing it.
Honda could come out with a turbo civic that would have a lot more HP than the Mazda and still keep it within the same price range, but then again so could mazda, boost the turbo a bit more etc it would never end. The fact of the matter is Honda engines in any class output a lot more power than any other car in the same class, they take pride on being N/A. Take the turbo out of the mazda and still keep it at 2.3L and i guarantee you that the civic would be faster.
well of course it would the 2.3 in the ms3 is running low compression. the engine would have to be re engineered to work N/A. i do agree that honda does a good job getting ever bit out of the engines. the thing i hate about car companies getting as much out of the engines as they can is mods produce less hp then before. an old civic with same bolt ons as a new civic would push about the same hp. well in the ball park of each other.
i hate the fact that N/A cars now a days you have to go big or nothing. i would love to get my car to 250 at the wheels it has 180+ right now. the only way for me to do it is FI with low boost which is a huge waste of money to go FI and run low boost when for less money i can get more hp with higher boost
Throttle bodies? Forged high compression pistons, steel H section conrods. Maybe get a spoon engine too 10-11k rpm, tbh honda haven't even began to tickle those engines as spoon and mugen have proven.
The FD2 mugen RR advance has 260ps no turbo or throttle bodies. Boost is just easy to get power out of simple.
honda has been building good engines for many years and you will not gain more when you mod the older engines vs the newer engines. the k-series is far superior to the old engines and it far outshines them also with gain per mod, the k can gain lots of power from normal n/a tuning and especially ecu tuning alot more then the old engines would!

@TypeDoubleR maybe the Mazdaspeed 3 is only a "shopping car" like you say but did you see what the shoping car did to you civic that by the way have the same old technologie since 1990 or so... the only thing that's good about the Civics is that i's cheap on gas and it reliable. The Mazdaspe3 is a REAL Sports car. Look at all the review that you want on the internet and you'll see what they say about this car. the Speed3 is the most under estimated sport hatch on the market today.

I have an MS3 and you cant even put the Honda in the same class! The Type R doesn't even have much more you can do to it from stock. Without a remap and just a CAI and SS Exhaust, I am pushing just over 290. Stick a remap in there and you got a madman ;-)

It has more power and more doors.. probably abit more refined too but as far as driving is concerned, the type-R is one of the best in its class, the MPS only has a power advantage, they understeer and torque steer terribly, even worse than the Astra VXR! Too much power through the front wheels can't be tamed, except by ford and their amazing new RS. I'd love either but compared to the Type-R the MPS is NOT a drivers car, just a beefed up family mans car, get an ST!

No torque off the line. Thats the problem with the type r i feel. This was a gd car but the engine is out dated when r honda gonna realise modern cars need more than a pathetic 168 lb ft torque ...?
Im aware that a turbo type r is fast however :). But damn thats a costly upgrade!
Not something id spend my money on any more. St/vxr/cupra r /the mazda... Much better choices i feel. Plus the type r is crap quality. It shakes more after 120mph than i do when i get zapped with a tazer! :)

@TypeDoubleR alright Jonny Tran.... if you look at lap times why does the MPS beat the civic everytime. Top gear test track, MPS: 1:32:00 vs Type R EP3 1:32:80. Hockenheim short MPS 1:19.60 vs Type R 1:20.40. Balocco MPS 3:03.65 vs Type R 3:04.90. Then the Ring MPS 8:39 vs Type R 8:47. Not that much faster, but still the MPS is faster round tracks. As I said before I dusted a few round the ring, but got destroyed by some hardcore german in a track prepped/modified Type R. Thats on the vid I got.

@TypeDoubleR Your comment/reply to PrevR33 is full of fail. CTR has awesome engine but the MPS just has so much more grunt as stock - simple remap and your knocking on 290bhp ! Check the stats, or drive them yourself, and you will tell that the MPS just has soo much more grunt. CTR 1/4 mile 15.2s @ 96mph, MPS 14.5s@99mph. CTR 0-100mph 16.2s, MPS 14.8s. Civic is a good car but the MPS has the beating of it on this occasion. The MPS clearly has a car length on the CTR in this video too...

I agree that the Type R corners better but then in real life you need a car that goes when you plant it (overtaking etc etc) not when you hit 5400revs before it decides to wake up. depends what you want the car for. CTR is very much 'look at me im a boy racer' whereas 3mps is 'WTF was that that went past' There's also so many shite looking boy racer civics around for people to take them seriosly. Type R would be best in the wet

Stfu pls. You got no idea about how market works and how cars are made to compete in diferent markets. The Type R civic was made to compete with the MPS, WRX, GTI, Megane and clio. The price range is all about the same, yes the diference varies quite a bit when you add "trims and extras" but the engine doesn't. Look at the latest Civic Type R for instance, it's the epic fail as it always has been in its original form.

if you paid to have it done you would be looking at around 20 grand give or take a couple. if you did it all your self it would probably be about 12-15 grand. you need to do your research. i know it would be massive hp im not an idiot. it still goes into the fact that the speed 3 is cheaper and fast. have fun with a type r stroking and turboing it.

Honda could come out with a turbo civic that would have a lot more HP than the Mazda and still keep it within the same price range, but then again so could mazda, boost the turbo a bit more etc it would never end. The fact of the matter is Honda engines in any class output a lot more power than any other car in the same class, they take pride on being N/A. Take the turbo out of the mazda and still keep it at 2.3L and i guarantee you that the civic would be faster.

well of course it would the 2.3 in the ms3 is running low compression. the engine would have to be re engineered to work N/A. i do agree that honda does a good job getting ever bit out of the engines. the thing i hate about car companies getting as much out of the engines as they can is mods produce less hp then before. an old civic with same bolt ons as a new civic would push about the same hp. well in the ball park of each other.

i hate the fact that N/A cars now a days you have to go big or nothing. i would love to get my car to 250 at the wheels it has 180+ right now. the only way for me to do it is FI with low boost which is a huge waste of money to go FI and run low boost when for less money i can get more hp with higher boost

Throttle bodies? Forged high compression pistons, steel H section conrods. Maybe get a spoon engine too 10-11k rpm, tbh honda haven't even began to tickle those engines as spoon and mugen have proven.
The FD2 mugen RR advance has 260ps no turbo or throttle bodies. Boost is just easy to get power out of simple.

honda has been building good engines for many years and you will not gain more when you mod the older engines vs the newer engines. the k-series is far superior to the old engines and it far outshines them also with gain per mod, the k can gain lots of power from normal n/a tuning and especially ecu tuning alot more then the old engines would!
I have owned both and it´s not a comparison.
