And what is Mr Tinsley using to "melt" off the flashing?

Straight Silicone: I mean is it Dragon Skin, or Gell 00 or something similar...what?

@JemmetGK The application is a Gel Filled Appliance, where the skin is vinyl based plastic, with a deadened platinum silicone inside. The flashing is being melted off with acetone.
