Heh.. I'm only 19, and this song always inspires me. I have an older sister who was a teen in the 80's so I got to get a taste of the good stuff as I was growing up. I'm going to have a new series on YouTube coming this late August or so and this song is actually going to be the theme song for the series :) It's not sung by Jermaine Stewart, it's sung by Lil' Chris for a more modern twist. I'm always going to love the original by Jermaine Stewart :) R.I.P. Jermaine :')
Wikpedia doesn't say he was gay. Just says Aids-related deaths. I don't dislike this song at all even though I prefer rock. I have to admit that I'd forgotten that the singer of this song is a man. It's a very feminine voice & I hadn't seen the video in quite some time. It just did not stay imprinted in my mind that the singer was a man. The high-ptched voice in an of itself doesn't make him gay, but taking into consideration other mannerisms it would not shock me at all if the guy was gay.
If he wasn't gay, I'm not either and I'm very very gay. Damn people...My Gaydar was incapacitated for days after seeing him for the first time. We knew he was gay back in the 80's...Try to catch up with the times!!!
@Gaznugget No I was born in 1990, but I am fully aware of the AIDS pandemic that went on in the 80's. I'm not an idiot, I always carry condoms with me. I'm just a bastard who has no problem making this guy's song's message a moot point, simply cause it's funny.
Well as long as you admit you're a bastard... No but seriously my only problem with your comment is that I find it disturbing for people born at this time or after (like yourself) to say something like you did. It wouldn't bother me so much if you said that for a modern song, but I'd have thought considering you weren't born at this time it should make you think of your childhood. I associate it with childhood and innocence, not sex. Maybe if it came out when you were at this age...
Rule 34 on a childrens show? Then you're sick. And to say what you did about this song... It's just sick because it came out before you were born so surely it should remind you of childhhood, innocence and happiness. I mean you were a baby and this song would have already been out a few years! And to say what you said is just eww... I read your comments and think, is there really any point to your life if that's how you see things. You "always carry condoms" with you... Just eww.
@Gaznugget lol, Thanks for that. You gave me a good laugh. Rape the world for all it's worth, then die with everything you can get in your hands. That's my philosophy. Do you think I care what you think? Nope, I'll continue like this, until I'm killed for over stepping my boundries. There's no point in living, if you don't live to fulfill your own happiness.
"Rape the world for all it's worth, then die with everything you can get in your hands" That's just horrible and what's the point if you die anyway? You're philosophy is bad. The way you speak makes me think, there are over 6 billon people on this planet. How sad, worthless and unnessasary your life is. A waste of space, recources. What's the point of fulfilling happiness if you die and loose it? Childhood is happiness. Adulthood (and sex) is unhappiness.
@Gaznugget Clearly, YOUR life has lost all it's meaning. To think that as an adult you can't have any sort of happiness. Honestly, at first I thought it was funny, but now I feel bad for you. You call me a waste of space when I am perfectly happy, and you are the depressed one who sees no reason to live. You say that happiness is meaningless because you die, I'll be happy when I die. It seems you won't be happy when you die. So really who is the pathetic waste of space?
You're right, I am depressed and I am a waste of space. I was so happy as a child and the world seemed like a utopia. Your comment upset me because you're only 2 years older than me and I hate seeing the happy world I knew slipping away. I don't even go out the house in fear of seeing someone my age driving, or looking different from what they were as a child in school. Children who once played on bouncy castles and watched Rugrats now drink, smoke and have sex. I should end it all.
WOW can't beleive some of the comments on here - who cares where Mr Stewart dipped his wick - great tune and like so much of Jermaines work a head of it's time - the song is still played on the radio today. RIP my Brotha; I look above and no you are still bustin some moves and grooves - and your right we don't have to take our clothes off to have a good time
Now don't get me wrong, I love this song, it's one of my all time favorites Jermaine Stewart was an excellent person and artist but.... I'm callin' bullshit on this one, but there is no man on this planet, straight, gay, bi or whatever who would ever utter the phrase "We Don't Have to Take Out Clothes Off" to have fun... I'm just being real! RIP Jermaine Stewart...
@AGLegend01 I concur.....there's no man I know who would turn down getting some new booty. Its a fun song I like it but Im surprised it was recorded by a man.In todays generation this song wouldnt fly unless it was sung by a woman.
I grew up in the 80's he was not gay in the sense of his style it was the the thing for men to wear eyeliner,makre-up!!what ?don't believe me?where do I start! Prince, david bowie, cameo and every heavy metal band from the 80's from twisted sister to motley crue even ozzy dolled it up after black sabbath !Check your music history before you start waving the gay card!!
I Have ALWAYS Loved this song!!!! Jermanine was a very talented,Happy singer!!!! He could transmit the joy and cheerfulness to you, while you listened!!!! :D
@thegreatbungholio21 That's how he got his break, with Culture Club. I don't care if he's gay. The world was much better for having him, even if it was briefly.
@NonSampled I agree with you. It doesn't matter which way your compass points. We all have the same size soul and the fact he was gay doesn't matter to me. This song is one of my favorites to this day. He left a bigger mark on the world than I probably will and that says a lot.
@AliceInHipsterLanddd i think maybe you are. considering it's an acronym for 'acquired immune deficiency syndrome' and acronyms are generally represented in a capitalized fashion it doesn't seem inappropriate to me. but that's just me...
Hey dulcebeone u forgot to mention the great B.GEORGE in ur list of line up gay greats, im 100% all woman and id remove all for the great GEORGE no matter what jermaine stewart's advice is and who cares about sexuality anyway its all about the tunes and 80s - 90s were banging times ..we are all equal my friend... all equal. By the way westlife are the best love u guys love twist xx
Does it really worth to mention his sexuality?are u blinds? I bet 7 out of 10 songs U all liked in Ur life were and will be make by gays...E.john,G.michael, P.collins, L.vandross,C.david, P.gabriel...even the so called " gangsta rappers " play the game (for those in the know). that's what the showbizz is all about
@CanadianLiz01 No, he died of AIDS related complications, there's a difference.
The AIDS virus doesn't kill you on its own, it weakens your immune system and you die from an infection that your body would most likely have been able to fight off otherwise.
i love jermaine stewart...he had a style all his own and was not afraid to be himself. he wasn't trying to fit someone else's mold...he made his own...still, i have to disagree with him on one thing...the fun can't start until the clothes come off...lol...
growing up in tha 80's was tha bomb!!! no one was thinking about killing , just being happi and having a good time. then ganster rap came along and changed all that!...long live tha 80's!!!!!!!!!!!
Also, a little context. early 80's was a period that still allowed a lot of individuality..if you had talent, you got a shot. Jermaine did. He was edgy for the times and we all knew he was gay, but what mattered most was the MUSIC. He had the dance charts and clubs SEWED UP! And it was empowering for young gays everywhere to see him out there doing his thing IN THE OPEN -- a bright LIGHT gone too SOON. I have both his #1 hits on 12 inch singles. Rest in Peace, Jermaine....and THANKS!
It would be nice to talk about Jermaine in a positive vein instead of focusing on the things that don't matter. He made great music and will be missed - Rest in Peace Jermaine.
This faggot was a hypocrite!. This "girl" wants to sing "We don't have to take our clothes off" but, yet he's sucking dick, gobbling man gravy, and taking every dick up his ass imaginable!. Fuck this hypocrite!...Stay dead!
ok to all the people who said he was gay and swear he was sorry to burst your bubble...he didnt contract AIDS from sexual habits gay or straight..he contracted it from sharing dirty needles...he had a not highly publicized drug problem with heroine and crack for a 3 year period prior to his contracting aids ... regardless he was a truly amazing singer and very talented writer RIP jermaine
ummm try again...THE CONFIRMED FACT was he contracted HIV from his drug usage which included needles and smoking crack...if you want to talk shit still fskoti...try reading up on some facts first before you open your mouth ...ive read his autobiography and many stories about his life he didnt contract HIV from sexual contact i honestly cant stand people who talk shit about something they know nothing about
umm dumbass may i enquire what grade you dropped out? because if you passed third grade or anything higher you would understand how to read the english language you would see i said and i quote " he contracted HIV from his drug usage which included using needles and smoking crack" i did not say he contracted HIV from his crack usage i stated his drug usage included. so kindly learn how to read before you open your mouth again
my english prof and my creative writing prof for some strange reason dont find my writing skills anything to laugh at in fact due to my grades i rather suspect they rather like my writing skills ..so heres a virtual quarter go buy yourself a life mr shit for brainsand in closing ...kindly eat shit and die LOSER
You failed to properly capitalize several word there, you used ellipses improperly, your punctuation is horrid. Yeah, I bet your English teachers just can't wait for you to come bouncing into the room so you can unleash your skill upon the world.
if you were schooled in english and were my prof then i would feel the need to use proper punctuation but seeing as you are an ignorant assclown i dont feel the need to use it now kindly go choke on a hamburger asswipe and REMEMBER HE DIED FROM AIDS CONTRACTED FROM DRUG USAGE ASSHOLE
@fskoti -- so fucking what..it's also confirmed that in the early 80's, Jermaine was a bonafide pop sensation with #1 hits that people LOVED and BOUGHT..and most importantly DANCED and SANG along to...and what exactly have you acomplished in life?
Beautiful song. I haven't heard it in over 20 years. He was a very attractive qiute guy. Especially with the dimples at 2:17 min. Very sad that he's not with us anymore. Jermaine rest in peace. I love you.
I don't see how contracting a STD from promiscuous behaviour is the work of a divine being. It is not the same as having an accident or mystery illness.
However he was a talented performer and it is a shame.
damn this was real music, i wish i could re live the 80s n 90s, fukk the new millenium. shyt may b when we get old as hell theyll b time machines, lol
I think if they were ever to make a tribute concert for him, Lloyd would make a shoe in for this song! They sound, (and look), soo much alike... As far as his other songs, possibly Ralph Tresvant, Raphael Saadiq, and Tevin Campbell would do good renditions of them.
This song and video are from the summer of 1986...reminds me of all the good times in high school. 80's songs and videos are true classics...with real artists/muscians and real instruments....todays music is nothing but crap from broke muscians that produce their music from computers.
dont know why but i love this song.....im only 23 and iswear i was born in the wrong decade......i should have been a teenager in the 80's. RIP Jermaine Stewart
discopogo, I disagree with you on this. Jermaine could have had an infested blood transfusion or he could have used dirty needles...I don't know. You assume that he got AIDS through unsafe sex. How do you know? Do you know? You shouldn't assume. Your ignorance is such bliss. You must be some ignorant American redneck.
Come off it greg take the blinkers off, the guy was openly gay and unprotected sex was rife in the 80's with other musicians including Eric"Easy-E"Wright and Freddie Mercury both dying of AIDS because of unprotected sex. Now u can believe what you want to believe but i thought it was common knowledge he died because unsafe sex. Oh and if u wasnt so ignorant and clicked on my name u would of seen it clearly states iam English. I await a mature response
And another thing greg from readin your profile comments u seem a very unpopular person on these boards and a bit of a racist with very derogatory views on your own countrys people. One could say u are the Redneck.
i grew up in the 80's and jermaine stewart was very popular he made this song to tell people they don't have to take there clothes off to have a good time. that is how he contracted aids and he wanted to tell everyone.

He got AIDS from his gay lover. This is not rumor or speculation, it's confirmed fact.
fskoti 2 years ago
ummm try again...THE CONFIRMED FACT was he contracted HIV from his drug usage which included needles and smoking crack...if you want to talk shit still fskoti...try reading up on some facts first before you open your mouth ...ive read his autobiography and many stories about his life he didnt contract HIV from sexual contact i honestly cant stand people who talk shit about something they know nothing about
thesmogmankills 2 years ago
Ok. He got AIDS from smoking crack. Good call.
fskoti 2 years ago
umm dumbass may i enquire what grade you dropped out? because if you passed third grade or anything higher you would understand how to read the english language you would see i said and i quote " he contracted HIV from his drug usage which included using needles and smoking crack" i did not say he contracted HIV from his crack usage i stated his drug usage included. so kindly learn how to read before you open your mouth again
thesmogmankills 2 years ago
I understand the English language just fine; it's your lack of writing skill that I was making fun of, in fact.
fskoti 2 years ago
my english prof and my creative writing prof for some strange reason dont find my writing skills anything to laugh at in fact due to my grades i rather suspect they rather like my writing skills ..so heres a virtual quarter go buy yourself a life mr shit for brainsand in closing ...kindly eat shit and die LOSER
thesmogmankills 2 years ago
You failed to properly capitalize several word there, you used ellipses improperly, your punctuation is horrid. Yeah, I bet your English teachers just can't wait for you to come bouncing into the room so you can unleash your skill upon the world.
fskoti 2 years ago
if you were schooled in english and were my prof then i would feel the need to use proper punctuation but seeing as you are an ignorant assclown i dont feel the need to use it now kindly go choke on a hamburger asswipe and REMEMBER HE DIED FROM AIDS CONTRACTED FROM DRUG USAGE ASSHOLE
thesmogmankills 2 years ago
@fskoti -- so fucking what..it's also confirmed that in the early 80's, Jermaine was a bonafide pop sensation with #1 hits that people LOVED and BOUGHT..and most importantly DANCED and SANG along to...and what exactly have you acomplished in life?
NoirEtoile1 2 years ago 2
I love the hell out of this song and Jermaine. But you don't have to lie about his death. It is a dishonor to him to do so.
fskoti 2 years ago
@thesmogmankills
He chose to die unfortunately. We all choose our own path in life. He also had liver cancer at the time of death.

@thesmogmankills Thank you for setting it straight.

It's a pity he didn't take his own advice; he wouldn't have died an early, tragic death.

He died of AIDS.
I don't see how contracting a STD from promiscuous behaviour is the work of a divine being. It is not the same as having an accident or mystery illness.
However he was a talented performer and it is a shame.

I think if they were ever to make a tribute concert for him, Lloyd would make a shoe in for this song! They sound, (and look), soo much alike... As far as his other songs, possibly Ralph Tresvant, Raphael Saadiq, and Tevin Campbell would do good renditions of them.
jamesmkel315 2 years ago
This song and video are from the summer of 1986...reminds me of all the good times in high school. 80's songs and videos are true classics...with real artists/muscians and real instruments....todays music is nothing but crap from broke muscians that produce their music from computers.

lmfao that was the best xDDD your goin to hell haha. that shit was funny tho lmfao.
cmatthewf 2 years ago
discopogo, I disagree with you on this. Jermaine could have had an infested blood transfusion or he could have used dirty needles...I don't know. You assume that he got AIDS through unsafe sex. How do you know? Do you know? You shouldn't assume. Your ignorance is such bliss. You must be some ignorant American redneck.
gregb1026 2 years ago
Come off it greg take the blinkers off, the guy was openly gay and unprotected sex was rife in the 80's with other musicians including Eric"Easy-E"Wright and Freddie Mercury both dying of AIDS because of unprotected sex. Now u can believe what you want to believe but i thought it was common knowledge he died because unsafe sex. Oh and if u wasnt so ignorant and clicked on my name u would of seen it clearly states iam English. I await a mature response
discopogo 2 years ago
And another thing greg from readin your profile comments u seem a very unpopular person on these boards and a bit of a racist with very derogatory views on your own countrys people. One could say u are the Redneck.
discopogo 2 years ago
i grew up in the 80's and jermaine stewart was very popular he made this song to tell people they don't have to take there clothes off to have a good time. that is how he contracted aids and he wanted to tell everyone.

Jermaine was so cool - God rest his soul and always remember his music. Thanks for posting this great video.
