This seems a great way to account for the realities of distracted students, and to take advantage of the reality of students who seem to approach communicating, "hearing" and learning differently than many of the older among us are used to. On the other hand, I worry that students are being supported in their loss of the ability to maintain single-minded focus when necessary.
