I wish somebody would post a video of the Chan Clan band playing "Number One Son". For almost 40 years I still remember that one. "I'm the Number One Son of a Number One Man. The Number One Hope of my family clan."
The Amazing Chan and the Chan Clan was a cartoon series produced by Hanna-Barbera in 1972, based upon the Charlie Chan movie series of the 1930s and '40s. The voice of Mr. Chan, Keye Luke (who played the part of Chan's son in some of the original movies), is the only actor of Chinese descent to play the title character. Each show featured a song, either being played over scenes or with the kids playing instruments and performing. Vocals were provided by former Archies lead singer Ron Dante.
im 18 but i remember watchin this on boomerang when I was like 4.....and when i tried to describe this cartoon to people no one ever knew what I was talking about. but i found it!
This has to be the most offensive piece of television the Chinese peopole have ever had to witness. The characters are drawn very crudely. They look and act like a bunch of chinks without the slightest bit of a chinese accest. What was the purpose of this cartoon? To make Chinese people act ridiculous and chinky? The Chinese peopole should have protested outside the hanna-barbera studios and demand they listen to how this culture really looks and acts.
One of the many Scooby Doo/mystery-solving band toons H-B cooked up. But this one was the bottom of the barrel. I know H-B animation was pretty mediocre in the 1960's and 1970's, but this was just bad, even for their standards of that era.
It still airs on Boomerang from time to time, but you're not missing much.
If memory serves correctly, this was shown on Sunday mornings along with Cool Mccool. It's a shame that these old cartoons aren't shown anymore, maybe on a station like TV Land but I guess that, compared to the high-tech animation that today's cartoons have, most kids probably wouldn't watch them and I doubt any aging baby-boomer who grew up with these shows would either so there's no profit in showing them today.
I thought this show was crap. Its just another one of those Scooby Doo rip offs. The only difference between this show & all the other Scooby Doo rip offs (like Clue Club, Josie & the Pussycats, etc.) is the fact the entire family gets involve in solving mysteries. There are way too many characters to keep track of & its sometimes hard to distinguish the villains from the good guys since almost all the characters look alike
@boats752 That was the formula back then along with pet sidekicks. Examples: Josie & the Pussycats, The Brady Kids, and of course, The Jackson 5 and The Osmonds. But I don't think the Osmonds had a pet.
@memyself2k Actually, the Osmonds did have a pet in their animated series. Fugi, an Akita who expressed his thoughts, but never chatted with the humans.
I watched this show for the first time today on Boomerang and it was a very painful experience. The limited animation, and crappy lip syncs is what makes it so bad. BUT, it was a while ago and they did what they could with whatever minimal budget they had. The song also makes me want to gag.

So what's up with spamdexing the tags? Seriously, justify "Economics" for example.
that's just a stereotype. And is by far the most overrated of the steroetypes to this day! I know a few Asians who are dumb as hell as with business & math. Stop glamorizing one group of people from the other.
@WhoJohnEntwistle HB like Filmation used the same movements for their characters--rotoscoping the actions from real "actors" the animating over the shots. From Josie and the P.C. to the Chans. God, I loved these shows when I was a child!
i never heard of this show when i was a kid, im almost 40 now, i saw it today on cable on boom channel, i like it, too bad i didnt see it back in the 70s
@WhoJohnEntwistle Indeed! Saturday morning cartoons were the rule, instead of the exception. Now, one is lucky to get an episode of "That's So Raven" or "Cake" before one gets five hours of oh-so-riveting college football and, even more exciting, golf. (The Cartoon Network is hardly better, and Disney shows a variety of REALLY BAD "live action" shows like "Hanah Montana", "Sonny with a Chance", "the Wizards of Waverly Place" - which I KIND of like - and "the Jonas Brothers".)
si me acuerdo!
