  • Awesome job, I didn't think this could be pulled off acoustinc, now u've made me wanna cover it, great song, U did well on the playing and singing, impressed, not flawless but very good

  • I think the lyrics are awesome. They're like Jesus in L. Cohen's Suzanne: he sinks through your wisdom like a stone. What puzzles me is--what are those chords and did you just figure that out by ear?

  • @theacidreflux0 I kind of made my own alterations to the chords I found online- search Google for "Surfer Moon Chords".

  • same pleasant almost sedated feeling i get from the original.

  • Awesome.

  • Dude, you do the best covers EVER!

  • Very nicely done - looks pretty hard to play (at least for someone of my meagre abilities). I'll be digging out my copy of the album this very evening!

  • phantastic cover! love this song very much

    Anette

  • if you could give us the chords, that would be awesome

  • @alramone1 The chords can be found if you search Google for "Surfer Moon Chords" - it's an amazing site!

  • @jimfusco i found the chords a few months ago online and i play this sweet song all the time now! thanks for replying.

  • nice!

  • Great job

  • best song ever

  • Great one!

  • Could anybody tell me the chords for this song.. verses and choruses etc. It would be really appreciated. Can't quite tell from the video exactly.

  • @Vincecouk The chords can be found if you search Google for "Surfer Moon Chords" - it's an amazing site!

  • @jimfusco Ooh, thank you! Liked your rendition a lot by the way. :)

  • Amazing video! Really enjoyed the way you sang and played the song. Brian Wilson forever! Keep up the good work.

  • Great job. I remember buying this album back in the day. This is still one of my favorite songs on "Friends." Thanks for posting this.......

  • this video reminds me of my videos!!1

  • Nice job dude!

  • very nice...busy doin' nothin'!...gonna see Brian in a couple weeks...

  • This is brilliant! One of my favourite more un-beach-boys-esq tracks! Great job on guitar and especially on vocals! Spot on brother :)

    Keep it up.

    O.D

  • "Friends" album is the BEST! Great job man.

  • Again, a great cover. Very relaxing and loungey.

  • Fantastico! Finally someone covered this song and did it great justice! Kudos. -Jerry

  • You kick ass man, I love this song so much. Please please do "Be here in the mornin"! I was so sad that i lent out my "Friends" CD to someone (and it never came back!).. so am searching in vain online for any of those tracks =)

  • Thanks!! I love this song even more now that I know how to play it. I'm also a fan of "Be Here In the Morning"- great choice! Consider it added.

  • Man that's a good song. Lyrics are kinda banal but beautiful melodies. Lovely performance too!

  • Yeah- definitely written during a more banal point in Brian's life (at least from HIS point of view), but he always kept that gift of writing great music. Thank you for the compliment, too!!

  • This is kinda bossa-nova thing! The first time I heard this song I just couldn't believe! I'm brazilian and bossa-nova is so fascinating... nice work, man! Maybe you need to work the feeling a little. But the rest is perfect! Do you have the staves or tab for this song? I couldn't find anywhere. Have a nice weekend!

  • Well, the video WAS done late at night, so maybe that threw my bossa-nova off! :-) I don't have the tabs because I haven't written them out yet. We hope to get chords to many of our covers on our website in the future, so I hope you'll keep checking!

  • @jimfusco

Hey man, I was just wondering whether the tabs to this song are up yet. The chords really are fascinating!

    Great cover by the way!

  • @E3tiger Sorry it took so long to reply! Search Google for "Surfer Moon Chords" and click the first link- they have ALL of the Beach Boys chords on there!

  • @mfsbrz You're right about the bossa nova - I hadn't thought of it like that.

  • I took care of all those extra comments- no worries! You are absolutely right about that- the Beach Boys are so much more than surfing and car songs. It was so hard growing up in the 90s and loving the Beach Boys. The ridicule I got...

It was tough to explain that there were songs like this one and so many others that defined them as my favorite all-time group.

Thank you for leaving the comment!

  • The Beach Boys wrote some of the most complicated music ever. In the 60's The Beach Boys were using chords The Beatles didn't even knew existed.

  • Amen to that! :-)

  • fabulous cover of an obscure little gem from brian wilson/beach boys. A+

  • Thank you very much! I practiced this one quite a bit and when I got it right, it just sat down and recorded it at like 3 am (hence the gloomy look to the video). This song really epitomizes what the Laptop Sessions is about- shining light on these little obscure gems. Thanks again!

  • You have a great voice! You're definitely suited to that classic 60's Brian vocal.

  • Best compliment I've had in a while- any comparison to Brian Wilson is always an honor- thanks for subscribing, too!

  • Here's an obscure Beach Boys song for you: Beaks of Eagles.

  • I love that suite and the whole Holland album. One of their best. Yeah, that Al Jardine folky style would be neat to do- but I think I would sound stupid doing the poem, especially without the flute! :-) I plan to do Big Sur someday- one of Mike Love's best songs.

  • Do the poem anyway. Or at least Big Sur and Sunny Californ-ni-a.

  • Okay, I'll admit it- it would be fun. I'll add it to the list!

  • Thanks 4 doin this one for me. Sorry about the pain, but what a song. And you do it justice. Great stuff.

  • Hey, no problem at all- I exaggerate on the pain- it only hurt in the beginning when my hands were asking, "What the heck are these positions?" Now, I play it smoothly. Thanks for the request and anytime you'd like another, I'll be happy to do it.

  • perfect! I love it!

  • There's the buzz word I've been looking for! :-) But, seriously, thank you very much and I hope you get a chance to see the other videos!

  • Wonderful!thanks!

  • Anytime- I aim to please! :-)

  • I'm willing to bet that after you hit stop on the camera, you shook your left hand about a dozen times.

I've never heard the song, but i'm sure you stayed true to it. Great job!

  • Yeah, it's weird- this didn't have that barre chord type of pain, but that "I can't believe my little finger can stretch that far" kind of pain! Thanks, man.

  • Geez and I thought "Question" was a hand-killer?! This one is downright midieval!

I've been trying to learn the old Little River Band number, "Reminiscing," and that's got some ugly chord changes too.

    Magnificent session sir!

  • I always look forward to your comments. It's funny how fast I ended up learning this song- I remember playing it while watching TV and just trying not to look at my notes. For some reason it just clicked. That's why I had to record it that night- don't chance leaving it till the next day! Well, good luck on your song and I'm glad you enjoyed the Session!
