OMG ... This song is amazing ... Love is not impossible when our difference are set aside and one concentrates in the future. Let love conquer all. LYA
I had never heard Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters until I saw this after 9/11... this song just brought the entire MSG to tears and reminded NYC that we're one, and we're strong. Thanks Elton
He is amazing! great voice. great songs. saw him live a couple of times... always a very emotional experience. especially when it is just him and his piano.
Probably the best rendition of this song ever. Incredible passion and poetry. Between the pictures of the fallen and the faces of the living, and the ringing piano chords; it brings a tear to the eye, I swear. It is mourning the dead and celebrating those who keep on living. 911 was nine years ago, but I remember...every single day.
god! elton john you make me feel in love with you because of your great voice and great songs! you are one of a kind! thank you so much for inspiring people...
can someone tell me the title of one of Elton Johns song that goes like........ I'v been seeing lissa now little over a year, she said shes never been so happy, but dosnt feel it, one day dad is gonna find out
I delieve love is the onswer, I believe love will find a way.........
Elton John's dedication to Martin Egan can be seen on the DVD of this concert. I went to high school with Marty and I've thought of him often in the years since 9-11. God bless him and all those who died in the attacks that day. We lost a lot of brave people.
I don't know if it were the spirits of those lost in 9/11, but this was probably the purest performance I have seen elton play. A truly sublime performance.
@johnowensjr1234 Re the post - Probably the purset perf I have seen Elton play - I can think of 2 others. Princess Dianas funeral - and in Melbourne Aust when he played Imagine - 2 nights after John Lennon died. This album incidentally is one of EJ s very best - with Indian Sunset being as amzing. All The Nasties and Rotten Peaches - are treated brilliabntly by Gus Dudgeon. Thanks for posting
But, I guess the song 'I Want Love' reaches me most right now. In a way Elton sings out how I feel myself. And this great song can be identified with totally independent of gender - let alone gender preference.
Amazing song..amazing night...amazing heroes in New York. God bless the men and women who gave their lives after the barbaric 9/11 attacks. Let us never forget them!!!
sw11262: I agree but unfortunately too many in this world have short tern memories and bash those who do what's right to protect us from such horrific attacks - from 9/11 to radical Islam decapitations live on television. God Bless and don't take this as a sign of weakness.
Tears are just streaming down my face right now. I never saw this part of the concert, and I love "Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters" and this version, and seeing the NYC heroes in it just was heartwrenching. They're so brave and there's no way in hell I could have done what they did on 9/11. Bless 'em!
Damn. I remember exactly where I was when I first heard this song. One of 'those' moments. I was half awake and thought to myself, my gawd, Elton John? He's back....

as far as the diet coke reference, if you ever meet Elton JOhn you'll find he's ALWAYS drinking diet coke. I doubt it was a commercial, just something he drinks a ton of apparently, so you know. and I think that I WANT LOVE on this version is the best I've ever heard, but the album version of Mona Lisa's I prefer as well.

why are people so ignorant? can't you just enjoy the music for what it is and stop trying to pick apart what's better or best? it's music..it's subjective. personally I am really moved by Elton's performace of Mona Lisas right after 9/11 at the Garden. anyone who lived in NYC at that time (as I did) knows how heart-wrenching it is to watch those firefighters, police and emergency workers honoring their dead friends. wake up idiots!
