I am not a party person either. These two men while from different parties are the real deal. Please vote Dino Rossi for Govenor. I am a single mom with my own business. Gregoire actions have govenor have us looking to move away from the place we have always called home. My cousin is the only one in our family who has moved out of state and she said it is so different any where else but here :(. Go Dino we need you!
A group of conservative hacks (Jerome R. Corsi, Bill Gertz, Lt. Col. Robert Buzz Patterson, Joel Mowbray & Richard Miniter) of such titles as "Unfit for Command: Swift Boat Veterans Speak Out Against John Kerry", are filing a suit in Court stating that their publisher (Eagle Publications) gave away copies of their books to avoid royalty payments these so-called authors. Spreading lies & smearing people: Not as profitable as it should be, evidently.
I am going to vote for Dino Rossi because Chris Gregoire has made Washington State a sanctuary state for illegal immigrants even though about 90% of the people who live in Washington want the existing laws to be enforced on illegals. Christine has ignored the people and encouraged illegals to come and that is not acceptable. We are having to try to pass laws to make the government enforce the existing laws to send illegals home. Next thing you know we will have a biligual state. Bad Govenor
As a person who spends a huge amount of my time fighting to keep my access to healthcare, it makes no sense to me to elect a candidate who is owned lock, stock & barrel by the insurance, credit card & pharmaceutical industries. Rossi's will serve their best interests, not mine. There's no way to ever get healthcare reform if we elect people who represent them first.
Very disappointed with the questions chosen except for the budget one. I dont even understand why Charles' question was chosen if it had bad rating???
The irony is that the vast majority of republican voters have incomes less than 50k per year & they are precisely the people who are being screwed by the oligarchy that runs this country. The oligarchy (the very rich oil companies & people who run corporations) just want to treat people with lower incomes like slaves. So many people are robots and have allowed the republican majority to eat into their incomes in the last 8 years.
My question for Gregoire is: Why is it that the THREE RECOUNTS that eventually led to your overturning of Rossi's win were financed by the Indian Gaming Commission of Washington State? The same Indian Gaming Commission you absolved of all taxes and fees owed to the State of Washington?
I got a question for the candidates. Are you CFR scum like Bush and Cheney who are guilty for 9/11 and like Pelosi and Biden who covered up their felony crimes?
They chose awful questions. Three left-wing questions, one conservative, one weird one. NOTHING about transportation.
Oh yeah, transportation? That was the thing we had the HUGE tax increase for but have had NO SOLUTIONS and NO PROGRESS for? Gregoire's friends at Youtube must have made sure she didn't get a Q about that. :(
I guess I missed the deadline, but I didn't know about this until now. Do either of you have a plan to make it easier for film production companies to shoot in Washington State? They all seem to be going to Portland or Canada, and it would boost our economy and keep us on the map if we can have major motion pictures shot here. I'm also an actor, and I outta be in pictures.
Right. Rossi is going to lose. After all, he is only up about 10 points over his primary totals from 2004, when the end result in the general was a virtual tie ...
I never said it was predictive. You're the one who needs to learn to read.
I simply said Rossi is looking much better than last time, when it ended in a virtual tie. And for this reason, I guarantee you that Gregoire is very, very worried about Rossi's status in the polls (and in the primary), even if you're not. This is why she came out with the new (dishonest) "duck" attack ad.
Basically, I am saying, using facts, that your confidence in a Gregoire blowout is competely self-delusional.
First of all, I see no evidence the RNC is doing anything to back Rossi, though they did give to the state GOP. Second of all, there is nothing at all illegal about that. Third, the DNC gave money to the state Dems, too.
Do you enjoy just making things up that have no bearing on reality? Is it a hobby of yours?
oh yeah. that's right. shoot insults at me to destract me from the fact that you're lying. it is illegal for a national party to influence and/or fund state pollitics. also, the dnc never gave money to chris Gregoire. you are completely wrong. and did you notice that Rossi's campaign slogan is "It's time for a change"? does that sound famillear?
yeah, whatever. I was right about the "Time for a change" thing, and while recieving money from a national party may not be illegal, it should be. what business does a national party have in state pollitics? besides, give me one reason to vote for Auggie.
At least you admitted you were wrong about the national parties, which was, of course, your only actual allegation. You had only one thing to say, and you were wrong. You should apologize to me and the other readers.
And you did not SAY anything about "time for a change." You simply said "time for a change." There was nothing to be right about. Do you have an actual allegation to make?
Sorry. Rossi. I always confuse him with Auggie Doggie, since he is the perfect metaphor for Rossi. and the time for a change thing, I did not just say "Time for a change. read my comment. I stated that it was his campaign slogan from one of his commercials. the party thing was not my only allegation. you, sir, need to get your facts straight. Have a nice day!
I did read your comment. You didn't SAY anything. So what if Rossi said it in a commercial? What has that got to do with anything? You didn't actually say why it MATTERS. You were apparently attempting to IMPLY something, but nothing came through.
You're completely wrong. hey, big surprise! If you were to read it closer, you'd see that I said "sound familear?" I was implying that Aug...sorry, Dino was copying Barack Obama, but you obviously are too retarded to see that. once again, you need to get your facts straight.
Then why did you agree with me? I said you didn't SAY anything, you were IMPLYING something, and you just agreed:
"I was implying that ..."
And I had no idea WHAT you were implying.
"Dino was copying Barack Obama, but you obviously are too retarded to see that."
Uh. Find me one candidate who is running against an incumbent party or candidate who DOESN'T say that. Obama did not invent this, which is why I couldn't tell what you were implying.
"you are still putting words in my mouth. I never agreed with you."
I said you were not actually saying anything, you were implying it. Then you said you were implying. So yes, you agreed with me.
"who said it before obama?"
Again: EVERYONE. Reagan did it in 1964 in an endorsement of Goldwater, and again against Carter in 1980. Clinton used it against Bush 41. Nixon used it against Humphrey!
Google '"time for a change" nixon humphrey americana' ... you could say Obama copied Nixon!
dang. that was retarded. to everyone reading that comment, please take out the "you are still putting words in my mouth. I never agreed with you" part.
Um, the comment you are replying to was posted two weeks ago. You're the one dwelling on the past here ... further, that comment you say is "dwelling on the past" was answering a question YOU asked.
I volunteer for Gregoire's campaign and I hear a lot of people who don't support Gregoire's support of abortion. What does each canidite think about it?

Yeah, here's my question to the illegal alien loving illegal governorness. Why are asking for more illegal Spick vermin to visit washington state bitch?
Because illegal immigrants farm all the apples you eat idiot.... I've been there and seen them working. They provide a valuable service so shut up unless you know what you're talking about.
For both candidates. What is your position in regard to the constitutional right of all people to be governed and taxed only by a govenment in which they have a vote.
Intelligent. I'm thoroughly impressed with your educative background. You must have been up all night contemplating that response. In the meantime, I have a tree to hug, Gloria Steinem to quote, and FABULOUS "Queer as Folk" episodes to watch because I live on the west side.
For Both Candidates. What do you intend to do at the State level to curb the trend of Foreclosure and rising economic costs to live in Washington considering MOST of the money involved in shady loans is being funneled out of state?
Things like this dont really happen anymore... Votes haven't been counted from Out Of State voters since the mid 1800's, the Graveyard votes were stopped at 100% once the electronic voting took effect, and as for the Illegal immigrants being able to vote, I was never aware of that, because you need to be a registered citizen to even register to vote, as well as Show ID at the voting booth, so its basically impossible for any of these things to occur.
Actually, dead people voted in the last general election, minors have voted THIS YEAR, and it has NEVER been required to show proof of citizenship to register or vote.
As to out-of-state voters, this is a problem in every state, due to lack of nationwide database. Someone moves, but keeps voting.
And then there's felon voters.
With Sam Reed's purging of the voter rolls, we did remove hundreds of thousands of illegal voters, but problems remain, especially with noncitizens capable of voting.
Washington State has millions of acres of land held in the Public Trust by various agencies. We Washingtonians have an incredible legacy of common interest to maintain and preserve. Why aren't the environment or emissions reductions anywhere near the top of your 6 keystone issues?

For Dino Rossi,
I watch your commercials where you say there is nothing being done in transportation. The state DOT reports they have completed over 150 of the last gas tax projects with more underway. What exactly will you do as Governor that is different from this strong delivery record?
Getting 150 itty bitty projects done makes a good soundbite, but we don't need more traffic circles. We have big problems like the viaduct, 520, and highway 2 (you know, that road that people die on every week?).
Locke's original 2003 budget eliminated pay increases for ALL teachers.
Rossi fought to give pay raises to teachers in their first seven years of teaching. Because of him, no 1st-year teacher in Washington state makes less than $30K.
The 2003 budget received bipartisan support from Locke, Chopp, and the Democratic-controlled House.
can they stop trinyg to pin Dino and Bush? It's not gonna happen, the Washington voters are smarter than that. Stop the obsession with Bush, he's done. Maybe Chris has a secret fetish with Bush? She talks so much about him it wouldn't surprise me.
out of control spending has been our states problem forever. How would you propose cutting state spending in a way that doesn't hurt our economy and gives the average Washington state person a better feeling about how our money is spent.
Why are we still requiring 1% of our public transportation dollars going to fund public art? Instead of cutting mental health programs, why not cut the art in public places program? A little here, and a little there does add up.

Dino sucks. He has no backing for anything he says. Everything he criticizes anyone else for he's done, like voting to raise the gas tax. He's a hypocrit and Washington is one of the only states that has remained free of backwards politics like his for years.
Gov. Gregoire, why have you not denounced the current ad demonizing Dino Rossi with half truths. Specifically, one of them states that he cut teacher pay, when, in reality, faced with the decision of giving long serving and higher earning teachers a pay raise or beginning, low earning teachers a pay raise (those who needed it much more) he gave the beginning teachers a pay raise. One of the ads also accuses him of releasing felons. Wasn't it you who did it this recently and several times?
Thank you for pointing out my spelling error. I hate to burst your bubble but not all teachers are perfect and that yes sometimes we do make mistakes. Atleast I am willing to admit it unlike some politicians. Most notably Representative Dave Reichart who in an email response to me on education legislation had numerous grammar and spelling mistakes. When I brought this to his attention I got the exact same form email back with the exact same mistakes.
Gas taxes have been significantly increased, ostensibly to pay for projects such as the Viaduct and the 520 bridge. These projects have yet to be voted on in the Legislature, much less have any actual physical work done on them.
What will you do to overcome the NIMBYism and actually get these projects done?
What I really want to know is why Gregoire lies on her campaign website and says that she turned a deficit budget around to a surplus when we know this is not true!
How does saying one does not want more tribal gambling, while increasing tribal gambling and receiving hundreds of thousands of dollars from said tribes add up?
Why is youchoose and citizentube impossible to contact? That's not very democratic... neither is showing only 2 corporate candidates in the list of "ALL POLITICIANS" on youchoose. Um, hello? Ralph Nader is at 6%. If he gets in the debates, he'll be the next President.
In the Seattle Times on 3/14/08, House Maj. Leader Lynn Kessler is quoted as saying, "If you take too many bold steps, you'll no longer be in the majority.... If we don't have the majority, we can get nothing done." Senate Majority Leader Lisa Brown is quoted as saying, "This isn't a year of launching new initiatives."
How can we expect our leaders to act in our best interest when they seem to be more concerned about staying in the majority and avoiding new ideas in certain (election) years?
How can we expect our leaders to represent us when they are tacitly admitting that we don't want them to do what they want to do, and, if elected, PLAN to do?
It's all about majority. Votes are by majority rule. Elected officials should be voting by what the majority want. However, that isn't happening. They are voting by what they want or by want those lining their pockets want.
Actually, no. The quote from the BIAW was that Rossi votes with the BIAW's specific bills 99 percent of the time, which is not what jessicaandolivia said: she said he votes with them 99 percent on *everything.*
Yes, exactly. You said he voted 99 percent with the BIAW, which I pointed out is, of course, incorrect, because the BIAW statement was much more limited than that. Thank you for admitting you were wrong.
PlantMaster, try offering a comment that is NOT a logical fallacy. Thanks! (Hint: saying "those guys at Forbes have no clue about business" is a genetic fallacy, claiming that they are right because they are "those guys at Forbes." You can't make such an obviously false argument and expect anyone to take you seriously.)

This is what we call an ad hominem attack, and a logical fallacy. Instead of addressing the facts I brought up, you attack my character.
Yes, our democracy isn't perfect... and neither are the candidates. However, we need to step back and look at the big picture. It's single issue politics that has gotten our nation into this mess.
jessica, it is poor form to attack someone for ad hominem when the crux of their attack was that you were providing false information. There is no factual justification for the claim that "Rossi votes 99% with the BIAW."
Well, yes, obviously there's people here -- frankly, on both sides -- who are modding down questions that make their chosen candidate look bad.
Not very honest or open, but that's how it goes. The fact is, Gregoire has talked about a state income tax before, and she has also strongly hinted at raising taxes next year, so a state income tax is not only a FAIR question, it is an extremely important question, perhaps as important than any other question asked here.

These "tax cuts" never benefit the middle and working classes, it's the wealthy and well off that benefit--just look at our national economy that is being managed in the ways Rossi is suggesting.
I am middle class and they benefitted me. *Everyone* in the middle class got a very helpful tax cut under Bush, amounting to several thousands of dollars.

I am a proud member of the working class, and putting myself through school (political science/environmental policy). My step-dad works for the railroad, and mom owns her own business. We know that taxes can go towards the common good (schools, health care, infrastructure...), and that it's more important to measure the results and look into the reasons behind them. Please cite your sources as to how we are worse off, and why.
Lesbian and gay individuals, couples and families are a significant percentage of this state's population. My husband and I plan to teach our future children to respect and honor all Washingtonians, and all people.
How have you shown, and will you show, respect and support for this segment of our population? More importantly, why do you feel this way/what makes you act this way?
In the spring of 2006 Governor Gregoire signed SB6613, outlawing any forms of online gambling within the privacy of ones home. Meanwhile I can still frequent any of the many casinos around the state, and online horse wagering remains legal. The hypocrisy of this law is astonishing. Do either of you believe the government should be going into people's homes and checking their internet history to see if they have played an online card game?
Also my friend who owns a natural gas powered vehicle said in California you could park downtown for free in carpool spots and also use the HOV lane on the freeway, why doesn't Washington have this option to promote alternative energy vehicles?
Question 1- I visited New York recently and was in awe by how the subway system provided a great transportation option, seeing as how the Monorail Project went down the tubes, how about a subway system in Seattle?
Question 2- Also how about high speed trains like in Japan, it's my belief that both bridges I90 and 520 need high speed rail, I believe like buses, light rail is too slow, we need fast solutions, how about high speed?
Mr Rossi & Governor Gregoire - I would like to know how you both view as the advantages and the disadvantages of implementing a State Income Tax. If you support a State Income Tax, can you please explain what taxes would be adjusted or eliminated as a result of the revenue the income tax would bring in? If you are against a Income Tax, what taxes would you adjust to make the taxes fairer statewide accross all income levels? Thank you.

Hey Dinosaur Rossi, why aren't you HAMMERING Gregoire for letting the Sonics go? It happened on her watch yet you do not do one ad against it. You deserve to lose because you let a golden opportunity go to waste. If McCain can talk about Paris and Britney you can talk about the Sonics.
The race was decided by REPUBLICAN Sam Reed, according to state law. I voted for Rossi the first time, and after Gregoire's performance she has my vote this time.
My mom is a small business owner, and she's weathered this national economic downturn quite well. We need to realize many of the problems we are having in our state are due to national issues. Forbes say we are the 3rd best state to do business (2008), up from 5th last year.
you mean the 30 percent increase in state spending??? that great performance ??? haveing to raise taxes to pay for in and now a 2.5 billion hole in the budget?????
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
The last election we had a $2.2bil deficit thanks to a budget that Rossi helped put together. Since then the state has been running in the black with a rainy day fund, ranking it in the top three best run states in the country by independent sources (look up "Pew Center on the States"). The $2.5bil hole you cite is in a projected and non-finalized budget, and is a direct result of national problems with the economy and rising fuel costs-which is still way better then the rest of the US is doing.
try again Rossi in fact sent a balanced budget and may I remind you he was not the GOV so it was not HIS budget ITS the Democrat governers budget and how many times did Queen Christine raise taxes during the last 4 years????
I am being honest and citing my sources, not just regurgitating what I've heard other people say. (especially from ads paid for by the most powerful and underhanded lobby group in Olympia, BIAW... many of these ads were pulled by the stations for being misleading or outright lies)
You've not answered why with all these Taxes! allegations that we are ranked top 3 states to do business, and why we are ranked top 3 best run states (and by people who know what they are talking about)
No, the most powerful and underhanded lobby group in Olympia is the WEA. The WEA, not the BIAW, is the group that got the Democrats to pass a law allowing the legally mandated, taxpayer funded, dues paid by public teachers to be used to buy influence for the WEA.
And the deal the tribes got -- $140m was it? -- is pretty nice too.
No, the BIAW is far down the list. Maybe it is the most powerful lobby group that favors REPUBLICANS, but that isn't saying much.
What deal did the tribes get? They didn't get what they wanted (more slots) in return for Washington not getting a cut of the money. The tribes were trying to pay WA to allow a lot more slots... which didn't happen.
I have to say, every Rossi sign (except one from four years ago) and commercial I've seen/heard since crossing the pass from school to my home city of Spokane was paid for by the BIAW, not the Rossi campaign. Those signs are spendy!
jessica, the tribes DID get more slot machines (though not as many as they wanted) AND got to keep all the revenue ... without giving up ANYTHING in return. Don't believe everything Goldy tells you, he's a liar.
And no, you're wrong about the signs AND the commercials. I hope you're not being intentionally dishonest.
I saw one Dino ad paid for by Dino tonight on Krem2... but about two or three dozen signs, especially along i-90 (all with the "don't let Seattle steal the election) and two radio ads by BIAW.
I just noticed since that seemed a strange thing to have on a political sign.
My understanding of the Tribes issue is different, my daughter is native and from what I've heard they were quite disappointed. I guess it's what you value, tax revenue or less gambling.
The tribes were disappointed because they didn't get EVERYTHING they wanted, like they usually get. They only got some of it. But we the people got nothing.
I'll tell you why we are ranked so high: because the people who do those rankings are morons. One of the rankings didn't even include the B&O tax, which is by far the most regressive and punitive business tax in the country.
Rossi votes 99% with the BIAW, a special interest lobby who has spent millions on Rossi and helped him get voted in the legislature where he was on the budget committee, that worked with the then Governor Locke to create that budget. In 2003 Rossi was the Senate's chief budget writer, and he worked with Gov. Locke to pass it (so it was his budget)
Jessica, you've been misinformed. We did not have a deficit because of Rossi's budget. That is yet one more lie told by Gregoire. Her biggest was, of course, "I want to try to not raise taxes," when everyone knew she intended to raise taxes the entire time.
And no, the $2.7b hole we face is the direct result of over-spending: 33% budget increase, with 15% revenue increase. A 15% revenue increase is a lot, and we STILL have a huge hole. There's no excuse.
Why did you and Democrat legislators use one-time surplus revenue to expand and create state programs that will cost more money to support down the road, when you knew the surplus would end at some point? Call them "investments" if you like, but the fact is you grew state spending with no sure way to pay for it in the future. Families have to prioritize their spending, yet why is the state incapable of doing so? Will we be on the hook for tax increases next year?
Will you agree to posting poll watchers ( one from Dem. and Rep. parties) at every king county voting location and check absentee ballots and remove the ones that were cast illegally.
First: King County is the only one that had major and serious problems in 2004. This is a matter of public record.
Second: King County, I believe (maybe there is one other), is the only county that still HAS a significant number of voting locations. The rest of the state is all vote-by-mail, except for a spattering of "disabled access voting" sites in libraries and county auditor offices.
Take a look at Whitman county in 04, during the recounts the number of votes went DOWN. I'd call that a major and serious problem, counting all the votes is getting things right, not a problem. What public record shows King as the only county with problems in 2004?
Okay, I'm assuming you are acknowledging there were other problems - just not willing to call them "major and serious" because that was what your post claimed.
So you are the one who defines major and serious? I find it more serious that votes were lost between counts than ballots that had not been counted being correctly counted.
Vote counts going down is NOT a major problem, no. It all depends on WHY they went down. If they went down because ballots were initially counted twice, or because the machine improperly counted overvote ballots, etc., then the count SHOULD go down. And we're talking a net difference of like FIVE votes from the first count to the third.
You are making things up: you DO NOT KNOW that ANY legitimate votes were lost in Whitman, and we DO know that MANY illegal votes were counted in King County.

Gregoire:
Do you honestly think its right that playing online poker in my own home should make me a felon? Governor Gregoire you have done the complete opposite of what the people want during your term. We dont want more laws. We want more rights and you took a lot away when you keep signing those bills into law. you cheated in the last election and you have accomplished nothing while in office. I cant wait till your gone.
Who would pay $20,000,000.00 for a picture drawn by a 4-year-old? It's titled "John McCain Saves the Earth" by QRS. It's up for auction now on ebay with 1 day left
In the Spokesman Review, you were quoted as saying that the voters needed to be educated on the merits of a state income tax. Do you support a state income tax?
Gregoire: Why have you lied to the voters of Washington State by insisting in 2004 that no new gas tax would be passed. Then going back on you're word, passing the largest gas tax in the nation's history?

And for this reason, I guarantee you that Gregoire is very, very worried about Rossi's status in the polls (and in the primary), even if you're not. This is why she came out with the new (dishonest) "duck" attack ad.
Basically, I am saying, using facts, that your confidence in a Gregoire blowout is competely self-delusional.
pudgenet 3 years ago 2
the only reason Dino has a chance is because he has the national republican party behind him. which is illegal.
RhysieKup 3 years ago
Ummmmm.
First of all, I see no evidence the RNC is doing anything to back Rossi, though they did give to the state GOP. Second of all, there is nothing at all illegal about that. Third, the DNC gave money to the state Dems, too.
Do you enjoy just making things up that have no bearing on reality? Is it a hobby of yours?
pudgenet 3 years ago
oh yeah. that's right. shoot insults at me to destract me from the fact that you're lying. it is illegal for a national party to influence and/or fund state pollitics. also, the dnc never gave money to chris Gregoire. you are completely wrong. and did you notice that Rossi's campaign slogan is "It's time for a change"? does that sound famillear?
RhysieKup 3 years ago
I am "shooting insults" because you're lying. Nothing you said is true.
pudgenet 3 years ago
yeah, whatever. I was right about the "Time for a change" thing, and while recieving money from a national party may not be illegal, it should be. what business does a national party have in state pollitics? besides, give me one reason to vote for Auggie.
RhysieKup 3 years ago
At least you admitted you were wrong about the national parties, which was, of course, your only actual allegation. You had only one thing to say, and you were wrong. You should apologize to me and the other readers.
And you did not SAY anything about "time for a change." You simply said "time for a change." There was nothing to be right about. Do you have an actual allegation to make?
And who is "Auggie"?
pudgenet 3 years ago
Sorry.
RhysieKup 3 years ago
I did read your comment. You didn't SAY anything. So what if Rossi said it in a commercial? What has that got to do with anything? You didn't actually say why it MATTERS. You were apparently attempting to IMPLY something, but nothing came through.
pudgenet 3 years ago
You're completely wrong. hey, big surprise! If you were to read it closer, you'd see that I said "sound familear?" I was implying that Aug...sorry, Dino was copying Barack Obama, but you obviously are too retarded to see that. once again, you need to get your facts straight.
RhysieKup 3 years ago

2. No votes counted from names of ILLEGAL Immigrants!
3. No votes counted from out-of-state voters!
8sistr 3 years ago 6
Things like this dont really happen anymore... Votes haven't been counted from Out Of State voters since the mid 1800's, the Graveyard votes were stopped at 100% once the electronic voting took effect, and as for the Illegal immigrants being able to vote, I was never aware of that, because you need to be a registered citizen to even register to vote, as well as Show ID at the voting booth, so its basically impossible for any of these things to occur.
Good question though
McCain '08 :)
Jessetime07 3 years ago
Actually, dead people voted in the last general election, minors have voted THIS YEAR, and it has NEVER been required to show proof of citizenship to register or vote.
As to out-of-state voters, this is a problem in every state, due to lack of nationwide database. Someone moves, but keeps voting.
And then there's felon voters.
With Sam Reed's purging of the voter rolls, we did remove hundreds of thousands of illegal voters, but problems remain, especially with noncitizens capable of voting.

I am being honest and citing my sources, not just regurgitating what I've heard other people say. (especially from ads paid for by the most powerful and underhanded lobby group in Olympia, BIAW... many of these ads were pulled by the stations for being misleading or outright lies)
You've not answered why with all these Taxes! allegations that we are ranked top 3 states to do business, and why we are ranked top 3 best run states (and by people who know what they are talking about)
jessicaandolivia 3 years ago
No, the most powerful and underhanded lobby group in Olympia is the WEA. The WEA, not the BIAW, is the group that got the Democrats to pass a law allowing the legally mandated, taxpayer funded, dues paid by public teachers to be used to buy influence for the WEA.
And the deal the tribes got -- $140m was it? -- is pretty nice too.
No, the BIAW is far down the list. Maybe it is the most powerful lobby group that favors REPUBLICANS, but that isn't saying much.
pudgenet 3 years ago 8
What deal did the tribes get? They didn't get what they wanted (more slots) in return for Washington not getting a cut of the money. The tribes were trying to pay WA to allow a lot more slots... which didn't happen.
I have to say, every Rossi sign (except one from four years ago) and commercial I've seen/heard since crossing the pass from school to my home city of Spokane was paid for by the BIAW, not the Rossi campaign. Those signs are spendy!
jessicaandolivia 3 years ago
jessica, the tribes DID get more slot machines (though not as many as they wanted) AND got to keep all the revenue ... without giving up ANYTHING in return. Don't believe everything Goldy tells you, he's a liar.
And no, you're wrong about the signs AND the commercials. I hope you're not being intentionally dishonest.
pudgenet 3 years ago 3
I saw one Dino ad paid for by Dino tonight on Krem2... but about two or three dozen signs, especially along i-90 (all with the "don't let Seattle steal the election) and two radio ads by BIAW.
I just noticed since that seemed a strange thing to have on a political sign.
My understanding of the Tribes issue is different, my daughter is native and from what I've heard they were quite disappointed. I guess it's what you value, tax revenue or less gambling.
jessicaandolivia 3 years ago
The tribes were disappointed because they didn't get EVERYTHING they wanted, like they usually get. They only got some of it. But we the people got nothing.
pudgenet 3 years ago 5
I'll tell you why we are ranked so high: because the people who do those rankings are morons. One of the rankings didn't even include the B&O tax, which is by far the most regressive and punitive business tax in the country.
pudgenet 3 years ago 8
Rossi votes 99% with the BIAW, a special interest lobby who has spent millions on Rossi and helped him get voted in the legislature where he was on the budget committee, that worked with the then Governor Locke to create that budget. In 2003 Rossi was the Senate's chief budget writer, and he worked with Gov. Locke to pass it (so it was his budget)
jessicaandolivia 3 years ago
Jessica, you've been misinformed. We did not have a deficit because of Rossi's budget. That is yet one more lie told by Gregoire. Her biggest was, of course, "I want to try to not raise taxes," when everyone knew she intended to raise taxes the entire time.
And no, the $2.7b hole we face is the direct result of over-spending: 33% budget increase, with 15% revenue increase. A 15% revenue increase is a lot, and we STILL have a huge hole. There's no excuse.
pudgenet 3 years ago 7
Governor Gregoire,
Why did you and Democrat legislators use one-time surplus revenue to expand and create state programs that will cost more money to support down the road, when you knew the surplus would end at some point? Call them "investments" if you like, but the fact is you grew state spending with no sure way to pay for it in the future. Families have to prioritize their spending, yet why is the state incapable of doing so? Will we be on the hook for tax increases next year?

Second: King County, I believe (maybe there is one other), is the only county that still HAS a significant number of voting locations. The rest of the state is all vote-by-mail, except for a spattering of "disabled access voting" sites in libraries and county auditor offices.

Take a look at Whitman county in 04, during the recounts the number of votes went DOWN. I'd call that a major and serious problem, counting all the votes is getting things right, not a problem. What public record shows King as the only county with problems in 2004?

What comment shows anyone saying King County was the only one with problems in 2004?

Gregoire:
In the Spokesman Review, you were quoted as saying that the voters needed to be educated on the merits of a state income tax. Do you support a state income tax?

Gregoire: Why have you lied to the voters of Washington State by insisting in 2004 that no new gas tax would be passed. Then going back on you're word, passing the largest gas tax in the nation's history?
