I disagree that he was ahead of his time. People today are way more angry and basically suck and wouldn't have gotten Andy at all. He would have needed bodyguards or had to carry a gun if he was performing today. Dick jokes and easy laughs are what's in today. He was a genius at the right time. People today are too arrogant and uptight to get his humor today.

I agree.Are you familar with a show called trigger Happy TV? Great show,playing out crazy situations with an unsuspecting public.They filmed a U.S version which was rubbish. Mainly because they had to tone it down, because people were reacting a bit too violently. Sucks.

In interviews andy said that he hated the latka immitation, but he had found out how shallow his audience was in the mid 70s, and did it anyway. He was way ahead of his time.

Andy is pretty different from Sacha Baron Cohen. SBC always has loads of punchlines. It's much more straight comedy. Andy is way more abstract and also darker and more personal. There is more risk to it and more edge. SBC is more hostile to the other person, whereas Andy is more daring you to hate him.

Actually, I don't know if he'd be able to do that these days, either... back in '81, he quit of his own accord. And two shows cared. "Midnight Special" and "GMA."

These days a performer working as a busboy would be bombarded with paparazzi, fans coming into the establishment just to see him.. he'd have to quit just because of that. And he'd be all over Access Hollywood and TMZ.
