The message is a slight variation in these animes. Deathnote follows this structure. A boy leads an ordinary life who by chance gains a power. Using this power and his intellect he resolves to change the world for the better.

The difference is Code Geass Lelouch actually succeeds while in Deathnote Kira fails.

Deathnote does not have the Mechanized action of Code Geass, but if you can catch the foreshadowing and overall rhetoric of the story, it makes for an extremely exciting drama, very similar to how Code Geass captivates the audience.
