How come everybody hates that Charlie perfume now (or did they always hate it)? I remember the original Charlie in the drugstores/pharmacies in the 90s around the time when they first came out with the different versions in the boxes in different colors but the original blue Charlie was OK to me, it was a bit strong and spiky but there was worse out there from the drugstore....like Emeraude.
I was young enough back then to long for the kind of life such commercials seemed to promise, and yet old enough to realize that it could never be mine no matter how much "Charlie!" I sprayed on myself and my belongings. Such is the genius and the evil of Madison Ave.: It makes you yearn for things that aren't real, and that would poison your life even if you could get them.
But wasn't Shelley Hack lovely in these ads, as the carefree young darling of everyone she met? *Sigh*
Classic. Innocent, in comparison with today's blind, pandering shilling for anything and everything, in portraying what Revlon thought the epitome of modern womanhood was looking for. And to top off this time capsule: Mel Torme. Very nice.
Childhood memories from the 70's!! Shelly Hack was perfect in the commercials. Mel torme is awesome
