@holio84 Joseph adopted Yahushua as his own son. The reason we care about him was because the lineage of kings had to be traced through the father. Thus, Yahushua was able to be King because of his connection to the throne. We have two genealogies because each of these provide different purposes. Matthew is to establish his Kingship whereas Luke is to establish the entirety of Messiah's Genealogy.
