At the height of British rule the largest number of professionals came from the burgher community with a ratio of 3:1 Those who went to Christian schools and converted to Christianity had a better chance to join the professions. Ananda College which offered an. English education was built with funds from both the Buddhist Sinhalese and Hindu Aiyars

To be fair, only half of Sri Lanka's Tamils were imported by the British as guest workers (Indian Tamils). The other half (betwee 5 to 8% of the total population), have their roots in a small Tamil kingdom in the north tip of the island that was founded in 14th century (the Sinhalese abandoned the north half of the island following a brutal invasion by an indian tyrant in the 1200s). These are people called Sri Lankan Tamils. The LTTE seeked to carve out a seperate land for these folks.

the UN has apologized from SL govt about their accusation of cluster bombs.. they have accepted the fact that SL forces have no facility or equipments for that..
unfortunately the media who gave publicity to the initial accusation of UN have not taken steps to talk about the mistake of UN & their apology to the SL govt.

No! Sinhala govt started the whole problem. They created the Sinhala only act and throughotu 1950 and 1960s when Tamils did Satyagraha (peaceful protests) they were violently assaulted by the govt forces. Then LTTE formed in 1970s. throughout 70s and up to 1983 govt deliberately tried to wipe out all tamils through state sponsored genocide. That is when LTTE went for all out war. Govt soldiers are cowards. That is why they have world record for highest number of deserters in the world

Very true...it is the British that are the true root of the problem. They wished to keep the majority out of power so they kept they put the tamils in position and put english schools in mainly tamil areas during their administration. So this put the Sinhala majority at a disadvantage.
