  • Hi DM fans, I invite you to view a wonderful master class on the music of Dave McKenna. Free, entertaining and VERY educational:) To view, type in "Dave Frank" McKenna on Youtube. You vill enjoy it!

  • Taste, Touch, Tone, Technique, TALENT= DAVE!!!

    Thanks for the post.

He was from Woonsocket, I from Providence, but he left the state before I began playing..

Who recorded these? We are very fortunate to seek the Master's hands so clearly.

    Thanks again "Fan."

  • I'm so glad to be one of his admirers. I'm enjoying listening to the playback of these 13 videos back-to-back! Thanks to all contributors. It's enchanting to watch his hands!

  • I had to sing a song on a solo on 42 secong street while playing it on the paino at school

  • Do you know where this was filmed??

  • Where can I get the music for this?

  • AMAZING!!!!!!

  • Very sad to hear of Dave's passing yesterday. The end of an era. Thank you Dave for all the wonderful enjoyment you have given me over the years. Duncan

  • Oh these videos are just wonderful! thank you so much, Dave is my hero!

  • Is there anything we can't learn from this unparalleled genius?

  • For a long time, no McKenna on YouTube and now this bonanza. Did you ever read Whitney Balliat's New Yorker profile on McKenna? Balliat called him "the hardest-swinging jazz piano player of all time."

    Thank you very much.

  • This is pure balm!

D.McK blends the left and right hands more naturally than anybody I've ever heard.

He has exquisite taste and his slower interpretations are unique in their chording!

Echoes perhaps, of Bix's piano style with the left hand almost conducting the melody line.

I love the way he starts a piece off as if he were fumbling a bit and then relentlessly lays on the rhythm to a subtle climax!

I too wish we could see and hear more of him!

  • Another stunning video from the piano king of my heart! I wish I Knew where you'd got this treasure. As far as I know, Dave is a very shy and modest man who didn't like to be caught by the camera. Still, some priceless videos are preserved for posterity. We can enjoy, as always, Dave's absolute and impeccable control of the keyboard and his magnificent sense of swing that can make the dead dance! But if it's possible, I would like to see Dave playing great jazz ballads. Waiting for more!

  • WOW, what a find! Thank you for posting this! What a treat to watch his hands from this perspective. PLEASE POST MORE!!!

  • Please post more. This is terrific. McKenna was and still is the best ever.

  • What a treat!, wonderful playing by this piano giant. Many thanks. Jim

  • This is wonderful. Dave McKenna has been a hero of mine for a long time now and sadly I never saw him live. Thank you for this video. Dave is without doubt a giant of jazz piano. A real one off.
