Not a lot of people know this, but Keith actually co-wrote this song. He was really into surf music, and wanted to do a surf tune with the Who. So he did and we have The Ox
The most completely rock n roll musician to ever take play it. Too bad (though totally predictable) that it had to kill him. You can't be THAT rock n roll and live...
it was the most drum related song by THE WHO, called the ox, like the nick name of entwistle - thank god the who never bored us with endless OBLIGATOIRE drum soli. like minor bands use to do, YAWN YAWN! and THEY COULD WELL HAVE ALLOWED THEMSELVES THIS as they had THAT GREATEST DRUMMER OF THEM ALL, but they had too much STYLE, they knew that it wasnt about endlessly drum soloing about but that the secret lay in ENSEMBLE PLAYING. ASSEMBLE THE MUSICANS , GODDAMMIT !!!
I doubt he is now. Daltry wants it to be a British made movie and although Mik was orginally going to be Keith, I doubt he is now. I hope they do this movie one day as it seems to get put back longer and longer, Daltry's incharge and wants it to be right, as he said, he doesnt want "Carry on Keith"although many of us would like to see that! :-)
Keith Moon was the mad devil of the drums, he was awsome,i bet he have four hands when play on the drumset...very fast, very loud..and talented, crazy, and (good)mad too that was Keith Moon! he was the one of the best rock drummer in this world....
what live concert is,that when he was on this red t-shirt on and hit the drums madly and sneakied with his drumsticks on 1:56?
what are you talking about? good comment, but charlie watts is famed for being a really uncreative drummer! you dont need to be a rock diehard to know that!
Hey, he can disappear in a fume of shum without anybody of the band noticing, and yet still play on!!!! That is professionalism! I agree he is not the most flashy of drummers but he is steady and reliable. Exactly what the stones need for their music.
I still think the surviving members of the Who and hte Beatles should unite. I mean the Who need a bass player and drummer. Ringo and Paul could fit right in.
no they wouldnt. paul and ringo are good in their own respects, but not who caliber. i dont think anyone can ever fill the hole left by entwistle and moon, but zach starkey (ringo's son, keith's godson) comes close. pino palladino... well hes just as good as paul mccartney
yea probably but ringo's son is now the drummer of the who and idk if ringo would wanna be in a band that has his son as the drummer and i guess paul could fit in but pino palladino isn't really all that bad, i mean he's no entwistle (probably no one can ever be entwistle) but pino's adequate
The Who uses Ringo Starr's son as there drummer now Zakk Starr. And he was taught alot from Keith Moon himself. As a kid he used to see Keith alot more than his father, and he was grown to call him "Uncle Keith"
@metallic22 Maybe you're right. As far as songwriting goes, The Who can't really compare with the Beatles, but as far as rock and roll goes, the Beatles couldn't hold a candle next to The Who.
Lets not forget Nicky Hopkins wailing on Piano as well as 1/4 co-writter of this. He performs on a bunch of Who records besides everyone else in Rock History.
After a THOROUGH investigation it was decided he wasn't.. He was cleared of all charges, but "warned." When that made the news it made me sick. He told the authorities of his concerns after finding such a website, and used a credit card to expose the people creating it. But he committed a crime by knowingly accessing the site. He was dragged through the mud and I couldn't believe it. It later came out that he told the police of this before he used his card. But it's still messed up.
Seriously, I looked up as much information about that as I could find, because it really made me sad and angry to hear he might have been involved in something like this. Gary Glitter, on the other hand, WAS convicted of that, and did prison time for it. Luckily, there were no files actually downloaded onto Pete's PC. Sadly, he has that stigma connected to his name forever now. Guilty or innocent of those charges, people are now always going to look sideways at him. :-(
No, but a movie about Keith Moon is coming out in the future where Mike Myers stars. I believe it's called Keith Moon: Naked For Your Pleasure. But I could be mistaken.

Ear, Per Biography "Moon"? Keith bought double base drums, because Ginger Baker had them, but like many drummers couldn't play them. Wish I could give exact attribution for above. Van Halen states in Cream film that many drummers use two base drums to play what they are too slow to paly with only one.
Here's a great Moon story. Keith goes out to dinner with Mick and Bianca Jagger. Now, Bianca Jagger is famous for being a world class bitch. She makes Yoko Ono look like an angel. Anyway, Keith senses she is disgusted by his company, even though he's on his best behavior and completely sober. He decides he's going to mortify her. He stands up,drops his drawers, inserts his member into a bowl of say, chowder, and yells "WAITER,WAITER!!!!THERE'S A COCK IN MY SOUP".
Of course, Jimi Hendrix and Jimmy Page and a few others are fucking amazing....but Townshend has to be in the Top 3 on anyone's list. I think he is Number 1 on mine!

imagine if bonham and moon both had DNA extracted and used to clone a baby, that baby would have gone on to straight CRUSH any and all so-called rock drummers, with their weak 'blast beat'....HA! THIS is what a blast beat should be to me
Sorry, but Keith used the double bass drum YEARS before old Neil used it. He has to take a "second" to Keith's first place as rocks greatest drummer, bar none!!!!
Their first album was called "My generation, and in the US it was called The WHo sings My generation", then they released another album called "A Quick One", and after THAT one, they released the on you speak of, which was called "Who Sell Out".
My favourite Who's track.

imagine if bonham and moon both had DNA extracted and used to clone a baby, that baby would have gone on to straight CRUSH any and all so-called rock drummers, with their weak 'blast beat'....HA! THIS is what a blast beat should be to me

what about Neil Peart
taleice12345 3 years ago
Sorry, but Keith used the double bass drum YEARS before old Neil used it. He has to take a "second" to Keith's first place as rocks greatest drummer, bar none!!!!

no i mean what about using neil pearts DNA too
Moon Bonham and Peart are easily the greatest drummers that ever lived but right now Peart is the greatest drummer alive
