  • Whats the deal with an engine (26ss) that, once started, craps out with a second or two? How should I fix it? I mixed the gas 50:1....its like 1 yr old and already broke.

  • @jwal81435

you have to adjust the low/high speed adjustment screws on the carb so it runs a bit richer. These homelites are set WAY too lean from the factory...that's why it craps out all the time.

  • @fishingman636 suck on that... LOSER

  • Why would u make this video nobody wants to see you start your trimmer

  • @fishingman636

Well, I wanted to and judging by how many views this got in 2 years, I'll keep doing it. I guess you're the one of many people who love cold starts from your recent comments.

Why did it make it?. Simple Its my channel and I decide what videos I want to make. I didn't ask you to watch it. You did it yourself. Also I'm a youtube partner that makes income from the videos. People love cold starting trimmers.

  • can you revew this trmmer

  • The old style tank on these wackers was about twice as big. Homelite sales brochure claimed they had had a 50 minute endurance. These new ones have what appear to be half as big a tank & from my experience with mine, 20 to 30 minutes running time at best before it's time to fill 'er up again. And again. And again.

  • My first 1994 Homelite curved shaft 26cc weed wacker lasted 11 years. Only my frustration with the recoil spring (trying to put it back together) after the pull cord broke made me buy a second one which was replaced again, same thing. I have an '11 now, with a low emission, Chinese, 26cc engine. So far, it has ran fine (to be expected), but I've read that the newer engines have skimped on the bottom end, with a bushing instead of bearing. Also, I find the newer smaller gas tanks to be too small.

  • Comment removed

  • @kolbpilot

the gas tank isn't all that small. I can go through 7 average sized lawns before it completely empties

  • i think everybody should just say fuck it, and go pick up a stihl fs110 or km110, had one fo these lasted 3 hours, got the stihl, changed my life

  • @hondarider272

I am now a STIHL owner,. Just bought the fs90r and puts a smile on my face

  • @Jon3800 my fs110r, almost gives me wood listening it thunder to life, never thought i would love weedeating as much as i do now

  • i have a 1998 homelite and it runs perfect

  • First was returned becuaase 3 people at Home Depot could not get it to start. Never started nicely, never fed line. Total nightmare and made all lawn suck life, given long enought this substandard product will eat at your soul. Sucks. My latest one is in three parts in the back of my truck, how many time can you return the same product before admitting it is not worth while....?

  • @electrodes1300

Mine's still working fine after 2 years of use.,

  • dude we are not dumb ass i know how to start one

  • @marko9880

Marko, think of the many people that have no clue how to start a gas trimmer, there's probably a few things that you don't know what to do. If you know how to start one, then more power to you. I was simply sharing my trimmer

  • i thought you would know by now that homelite is the worst brand you can buy and if you use it comercially it is even more bad those things will only last one year get an echo srm 225 or 230 that will last you 5 years

  • @Hjdstudios

I know its not a good brand and I agree with you. This trimmer did quit last year, and I just recently found out the plug went bad. It works. People say worst brands don't last very long, but I have a Weed Eater XT600 and Ryobi 700r that are more than 10 years old and they still run.

Personally I don't like Echo trimmers, I primarily own STIHL models, mainly the 38, 70 and 90r

  • sad because big box companies build junk so you can buy a new one every year or more.

  • post more videos

  • @duncan33984

I will have a repair video of a shindaiwa coming up

  • @Jon3800 ok.

  • you should give me one of your weedwackers.

  • ur saying stihl wrong, its pronounced "steel"

  • @portuguesekid77

same way tho. It's like people saying tomatoe and to-ma-to

  • Damn! This video was posted almost 2 years ago?!?!?!?!?! WOW! It feels like 6 months ago I saw this!

  • just got one of these for 10 bucks, except its the cs, not the ss. it had a broken cable in the shaft and it needed a diaphram kit for the carb. oh and a new primer bulb

  • Homelite is actually a really good brand it's sad how much people hate the company.

  • @Rarrin9378

Homelite was good brand back in the late 80s to the early 2000s until they started building stuff very cheaply, which is why people are starting to hate them now. I'm frankly slightly frustrated with Homelite myself since parts are not even available and not any of my dealers will take them in for repair.

  • @Jon3800 I order parts myself and fix my stuff, I try not to deal with the idiot's at repair shops, I find it fun and easy to work on them at home. If you treat them right there a good brand

  • @Rarrin9378

That's good to hear. I find working on those on the lawnboys to be fun. Trimmers are bit complicated because they're a lot smaller. Where are parts available. In Canada, they don't even exist. There's tons of parts in US, but they won't ship here :(

Sad because this trimmer broke down last fall, it won't even fire....and I treat the trimmers in good condition.

  • @Jon3800 I get parts ordered from a lawn mower shop down the street from me, Not sure about Canada though. If I were you I would clean the carburetor, put a new plug in and spray some carburetor cleaner into the intake and set the choke to full and full throttle it and see if it tries to run. If it doesn't that means you have bigger problems like no spark, If it has no spark the ignition coil might need replaced, but then that would be hard to do since parts are hard to find, best of luck

  • id hope you think the stihl works good! oh and its pronounced "steel"

  • @SuperBigEv

    stihl works fine

  • @SuperBigEv no, its the guy who designed it's last name

  • check out my weed wack video love yours

  • these would be the ultimate trimmer if they have a clutch. i have the exact same one except mines a cs

  • @pimpinpenz

My friend has the newer CS model and it has drive clutch. I prefer direct drive myself, you don't have to rev too much

  • I bought 2 Homelites in '07, within a year they both failed. On the leaf blower the fuel line completely disintegrated and turned into debris; on the Mightylite 26ss trimmer the fuel line was made of a better material which didn't fail, but the engine never ran reliably and dies whenever it is throttled up. I brought my 10-year-old Weedeater out of retirement (it just needed a new fuel tank and fuel line), and will get rid of the Homelite. They're junk, in my experience.

  • I bought 2 of these brand new from HH ReStore for $35ea. because they would not start.

I added some oil, gas, and a small bit of 99% Isopropanol to them and they run perfectly. The "extra" oil keeps it well lubricated and the isopropanol keeps the carbon away and lowers emissions.

I use one at home and am now selling the other mint condition one for $70 on Kijiji Kitchener (Craigslist in U.S).

    Great Stuff!

  • I bought one of these a year ago and so far it's been great! I had to return THREE different brands before I found this one and It gives me no problems at all..

  • @Bamazrollin

    right on

  • peice of shit

  • @flynnlandscaping

Its not a piece of shit.. I've owned it over a year and my Stihl breaks down more often than this one

  • @Jon3800 my grandpa has one and when i mow the lawn there i always bring my redmax because his never starts and always breaks down

  • @flynnlandscaping

only thing I have trouble with it is the cold start, but just like other homelite engine because of the mis-adjusted factory carb and the half crank mechanism, other than that I have no other problems. I use it commercially. I'm sorry if yours doesnt work

  • HOW DO YOU GET THE CRANKSHAFT OUT OF THOSE?!

  • @SuperKONR

don't know, never took one out

  • @SuperKONR its not hard you pull the head off and take the piston off then you pull of the fly wheel and hit the shaft with a hammer it sounds bad on them but its not all you got to worry about is the seal on the crank shaft

  • @kawasakibayou220 Thats for the full crank engines. This is a half crank without a removable head. I removed the two cips on the haf crank and hit both ends with a very large hammer but it won't budge. :(

  • Oh, u could have got a good lightly used one off craigslist for the price of the curved one

  • @th19940305

I could have but I didn't think at the time. It's a solid and balanced trimmer, a lot lighter than the FS-38, and performs as good

  • U should have just originally got a stihl straight shaft trimmer?

  • @th19940305

I didn't have enough money to blow on a Stihl straight shaft...now I have one a stihl FS-70RC-E

  • If you have a stihl why did you buy a homelite?

  • @th19940305

did not have a good working straight shaft

  • ALSO GOOD CHOICE, ENJOY.

  • Invest in a Shindaiwa T272X, STIHL FS55R, or the Echo SRM 225. I know I've seen these manufactuers evolve and improve over the years. These models are all straight shaft models and have proven themselves in the field. They average in price around $225.00 usd with an excellent warranty. I have over 20 years experience servicing and repairing everymake and model ever built.

  • @bigoen

I invested in a STIHL FS70RC, one of their newest commercial grade models

  • One of the employees at home depot said that Homelite trimmers have plastic carbs. Is this true?

  • @Vinagain94

Most low end gas trimmers do

  • @Jon3800 Ok, thanks for the info. Do you know if Echo trimmers are overall better than STIHL or Husky? Or is it the other way around?

  • @Vinagain94

I never used any Echos before so my opinion may be biased towards STIHL or Husky. I have 2 STIHL trimmers, the FS-38 and the commercial FS-70RC, both startup quick and very dependable

  • bro hurry up and start the damn trimmer.

  • @handfoolalaffs

This is a review along with a startup. Patience is a virtue my friend

  • I got one free from a abandoned house in my neighborhood, homelite makes the Ryobie trimmers too there practically the same. I like Echo the best though

  • can you make a edgeing video??

  • @MrKunsherman

    in due time i will

  • nice vid! i got one of these today reconditioned at factory direct for $59.99. i hope it works good, but i don't like the throttle design :(

  • @mystiqueman366

    ya, its a bad design

  • i just bought one today i got the straight shaft one and im quite happy with it. i have used it twice so far. the first time it took about 20 pulls. and second time it started on its first pull.

  • try carborator gum cutter they sell it at car part stores it will do the trick

  • that thing is built look at that cast aluminum crankcase cover

  • hey jon, can u do a video on ALL of your blowers/weedwackers. Like a review on them please.

  • @oRaptorJesusII

Oh please, are you some type of racist? Communism Honestly dude, why do you even care, it's my money I do what I want it. Reality check, pretty much anything will soon be made is China. Get over it!!

  • ok thanks Jon. Hope your lawn business is doing great!

  • @Mightylite94

thanks, it started to boom...until we are getting a slight snowfall

  • @Jon3800 man why did u git a homelite when u hav a stihl?

  • @wheely132

Because at the time, I needed a straight shaft trimmer, of which my dealers did not have straight shaft models. I fixed my XT600 so, I hardly use this one

  • @Jon3800 ohh ok. at our homedepot they sell cubcadets, mcullochs, homelites, stihl, etc. do you have a homedepot by u?

  • @wheely132

yes I do, thats where I got the trimmer. Unfortunately, they do not sell Stihl at our Home depot

  • @Jon3800 ohh that sucks! is there echos over there?

  • @wheely132

there is, but they're over $400

  • @Jon3800 ohh shit! they are $250 out here

  • @wheely132

    canada is expensive :(

  • @Jon3800 that is a nonsense price echo's over here in california sell for 170 bucks

  • @Rarrin9378

that's because in your in US and you don't have to pay near 15% sales tax on them

  • @Jon3800 sales tax is 11 percent i believe it's ridiculous i had to pay 80 bucks for tax when i bought a 100 dollar mower

  • @Rarrin9378 ummm 11% sales tax on a 100 dollar mower is 11 dollars, so how can it be 80 bucks tax on that...

  • @Mightylite94 that is a very good question and i honestly have no idea but they charged me 80 bucks

  • @Rarrin9378 oh, in my state it seems taxes change cevery year

  • @Rarrin9378 no ryan its 8.75 % in california and 80 bucks for tax on a 100 dollar no way not possible

  • @jamco300 Go tell walmart that that's how much they charged me. haha

  • @Jon3800 because they are the most high quality and they dont cut corners like most every other brand

  • @lanepotter5101

I realize that, I've been working with lawn equipment of over 14 years. I had no major problems with this particular trimmer other than taking a little while to start when cold. It's as good as my stihl

  • Jon3800

i have the 2010 model, which is the mightylite, but a little different. it still is 26cc. i have noticed after running it for about an hour, since i just got, it conks out if i try to throttle it quick. is this just because it needs to be broken in, or is it a flaw?

  • @Mightylite94

I think it needs to be broken in, I still have that issue with this one.

  • I was always told when your run it the first time to run it a little rich. lol nice vad and nice homelite. love em thay sound great.

  • can u tune these?

  • @manout234

    Yes, you can tune them

  • Nice machines!! -TX

  • hay dude same thing happened to me, i think the engine wore out. well i had a feather lite.

  • Worship John. I also have the mower Stihl. Congratulations !! :)). Homelite is the largest shit but. She broke down me often. I gave only 400 zloty and the dick. Take her throw out on the skip because feel sorry

  • Hi Jon,

Nice Video! About the Homelite trimmer hanging in your garage, have you taken the muffler off and cleaned out the exhaust port and screen? Because a two stroke engine has no valves, a small amount of fresh charge will escape the cylinder before it is trapped and burned. This unburned fuel will stick to the hot metal of the exhaust port causing blockage. Same thing with the Lawnboys. Clean it out and see what you think. If you have questions, let me know.

    Best wishes,

    Bob

  • havent tried that, but I'll do it in spring

  • What are they like? Because I might get one since they are supposedly so light.

  • hard starting but extremely light

  • Ok I might get one, I can put up with hard starting

  • OMG WOW, thats AAWESOME PRICE! is it 38 cc?

my father got his for 300 around. its only 26 cc =.=

  • The homelite is a 26cc, the FS-38 is a 27cc

  • I GOT SO RIPPED OFF!

too bad, I'm living in a sort of rural country. So home equipment like this might cost a bit more.

  • the same one?

  • its not the same brand.

    Mine is a Mitsubishi Weedwacker.

  • never heard of a Mitsubishi, maybe that's why it's pricey. The more expensive ones tend to be better built. It doesn't matter how much power you have. The larger the engine, the more gas it consumes and it becomes heavier.

I used to have a 33cc trimmer. So heavy (15lbs) to use so I returned it for that FS-38 (9lbs), best decision ever

  • ooooooo

Thanks for the Info man. ;)

    Take Care~ =)

  • And plus some stihls start up in 1 pull and homelites start up in what 6 pulls on a cold start

  • thats because homelites are half crank engines

  • Ya well the fs38 isn't even a commercial unit and homelite is cheap stihl is one of the most popular brand on the market

  • true, but you have to go to specified dealers

  • Dude homelite has to be one of the shittiest machines ever invented they r like throw aways u buy them then a year later they break cuz they r pure crap

  • I wouldn't go as far to say homelites are the shittiest. I had one that lasted 12 years. Since I bought this one, I already put about 100 hours into her and is problem free minus the occassional hard starting. My Stihl FS-38 has around the same hours, and already needs servicing

  • i have the new homelite curved bumpengo model

  • yeah i also have a back up weed wacker which is a troybuilt 4 cycle 35 cc lots of power

  • i know how stuff is expensive with taxes but why not wait and get something nicer like an echo or stihl instead of a cheaply made homelite.

  • they still have the same purpose. i already have a stihl FS38.

  • I would Stick With Mi Stihl 110 Lots A Power..

  • i have this same weed wacker but with a curved shaft and the only problem i had was replacing the starter spring and the gas cap gasket

  • dang dude u have 3 lawn mowers and like 5 weed eaters

  • correction, 14 lawnmowers and a good dozen trimmers

  • Did it give you any problems yet? Cause i wanted to buy one from Home Depot and it has a different type of Choke System. It has only 2 settings. START and RUN. and im still confused whether i should buy it or not. $90

    thanks

  • its a little hard starting but no problems with it so far. That choke system is used on my Stihl and Shindaiwa, it's pretty effective

  • after buying 2 weed eaters in a garage sale... for $5 (each) both in working condition, i'd never waste any money on a brand new one. i just got an old homelite today, i love it.

  • great job :)

I dislike newer trimmers, I proudly like to use the older ones

  • i took my bolens that i got for $5 and mounted it on the bike... pretty cool, i'm probably going to mount my homelite on it since the bolens got screwed up. do you do lawn care? that's alot of trimmers.

  • yes I do, I have about 75 clients

  • The Homelite 26SS is the worst piece of junk I have ever bought. Hard to start. EXTREMELY loud, and the trimmer head is useless (jams, tangles, etc) out of the box. Replacing it with a good trim head is hearly impossible as the hardware is nonstandard.

  • ya I agree its hard to start, I've heard louder trimmers than that

  • but as u see im just a kid starting off so i need something a ok price to start off and reliable

  • what weed wacker should i buy that is reliable cheap doesnt have problems and i can buy at local stores becuz im not allow to buy stuff on the internet so please replay to me

  • well unfortunately cheap trimmers will eventually give you problems. I recommend either Homelite , Ryobi, or Echo

Better quality trimmers but more expensive are ones made by Husqvarna, some higher end Echos, shindaiwa or Stihl

  • where can i buy homelite , ryobi , echo , shindaiwa , and stihl any local stores? cuz i dotn wanna buy stuff from the internet

  • Echos, homelites, ryobi can be bought at Home depot.

Stihl and Shindaiwa are exclusive to dealers. You might want to check if there are any Stihl dealers in your area, or you can visit lawnmower repair shops

  • ok thanks alot

  • is echo, homelite , or ryobi a duriable brand like doesnt break down?

  • echo is the most reliable of the three

  • but they also run into $200-300 price range.

I'd rather spend the couple of extra bucks to get something good than to get something not so good.

The homelite in this video I Bought it at Home Depot. What I like about this trimmer is that it's light-weight and easy to use, but it's also a pain to start on cold starts, once it gets going, its a nice good trimmer

  • can u list the three weed eaters that is most reliable from 1-3

  • echo 1, homelite 2 ryobi 3

  • alright man you been great help thx alot

  • have you ever heard of a place called Agri shop?? it's a few miles from my house that's where I get my mower parts about 5 years ago they only sold Echo but now when you go in there, STIHL STIHL EVERY THING IS STIHL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and Honda and some Briggs engines

  • sorry dude, I don't live in the states so I dont know what they sell there

  • yea I know but I was wondering if they had agri shop, some are ace hardware and agrishop combined

  • lmfao shorts and no shoes hmm i tried that once and it didnt go to well

  • the homelite will run a lot better with 32:1 in it because i have the same one and it will get rid of the bog when you first feed it throttle some people think its harder on them but ive run mine with 32:1 in it for about 2 or 3 months and it hasent hurt it at all

  • I tried that on my Homelite Zip Start, smokes too much, and it doesn't resolve the bogging

  • it did on mine it starts easier to

  • ok I'll try it

  • cause its a little silver circle with a gap and u put the 1 cm wide wire in wrapped in circles to keep tension and it hooks right in but its hard to put in with spring piece with 2 blacks its hard to explain :P

  • I think something happened to the recoil spring. Check to see if there's kinks, that's the only thing I can possibly think of

  • I have the same trimmer i pulled to hard and when i let go of cord it didn't go back in what should i do i tried all day taking it apart and the spring for recoil isn't catching to bring in pullcord what i do?? I checked website for homelite and it wasn't there and wasn't in manual it doesn't go into that much detail thanks:D

  • hmm,

You'll have to check either your starter pulley and see if there's damage that's been done, it happened to me on my weedeater, or tour recoil spring needs tensioning. Its a bitch to put the spring back. Make sure you make a diagram on which way the recoil spring goes

  • 129.00?? few more bucks u coulda got an echo or a stihl that will outlast that pile of junk 10 fold

  • More like $100-200 more. We'll see about that. That homelite is lighter and runs better than my FS38, which backfires constantly.

  • what the hell a homelite better than a stihl what??? does your stihl backfire when it's running?? I think it needs a new sparkplug and a carb adjustment

  • backfires on start up if you saw my stihl video when I was mowing the lawn with it, in action, it backfires at 00:50.

I was pointing out to him that a trimmer is a trimmer no matter what brand name it is. I love how people start brand wars on trimmers when they haven't even used one, in the end they all do the same thing. Sure homelites are difficult to start because they're half crank engines.

Already, not even 3 months of use on the stihl

  • huh what the hell is rong with the stihl??? maby a carb adjustment

  • it backfires on startup if it you constantly stop it and run it. Wow, it needs a carb adjustment already.

  • what brand of carb is it walbro or shitty zama??

  • i dont know

  • it's probobly some new no name carb. you never know these days
