We can't see the mass because there is to much dust and etc for optical telescopes to see through and even though we can see in infra red and etc we don't know what dark matter or energy is do we but we know it exists the crib theory makes no sense in relation to what we know about the universe

@erospore it is the changing of the colour (wavelength) of light coming from the viewed object depending on its direction of travel. So if its coming towards you it will "compress" the wavelength of the light coming from it to you eye/telescope, causing the colour to move to a more blue wavelength (shorter). Red-shift is the opposite effect when it is travelling away from you, as in it "stretches" the waves of light to the red end of the light spectrum.
