There really are some fascinating (and disturbing) similarities between the modern Western world (which used to be called 'Christendom') and the decline of the modern Western Empire.
More than just matching 'hits' too but real working principles and sociology etc.
and,
Hey never mind the government. what about the people really being placated with 'bread and circus'.
We only seem to notice if we must down-size the flat-screen and cant afford fast food anymore.
