The football player was a reference to solders in Vietnam. "We're #1" (US Army Always wins...) "Day in, Day Out" (Years of fighting and still no winners) "Were did he go?" (The Vietcong hid and attacked and our guys never saw them) This clip is cut before you hear the football player say, "Let's get this game over"...let's get the hell out of Nam or change the rules of engagement and win the war.
@CogarDM Thanks! that makes sense! no matter how weird this movie is i love the monkees=) i just thought of something else, maybe also the football represents an Amercian mentality of "we;re the best!" kinda thing. ya know "mr.1" lol
ya know, when i saw this movie i thought it was really weird but i understood a lot of it,i got the war reference(vietnam), i got the life magazine bit(glamourizing the war), but for the life of me i can't understand the football player! lol help?
i remember my mom tried to be 'down' with this movie when i first got hold of it in the mid 80's, but in the end, it was painfully obvious she was drasctically unclear.
I like the sort of doe-eyed look on Peter's face as he's getting tackled again and again.

You I could actually see them being in one of those old war movies, Mike as the general.

The football player was Ray Nitchske. He was the baddest ass defensive player (linebacker for the Packers) of the time.

I think the football player is like the people at home during war that cheer it on.
