If they were trying to appeal to the "weeaboos", then the English subtitles would've been integrated with the video to appeal to those who want to be Japanese yet don't know the language. The audience would be severely limited if they showed it in Japanese to the US. If it's shown in Japan, then everyone understands it, but it just appeals particularly to the anime otaku audience. So, I'd say that since it's in Japanese, there's a pretty good chance that it was shown in Japan.
