  • Nothing better than Spring Chicken and Waffles.

  • Just for CHICKS 'N' GIGGLES haha

  • haha, press 1 to hear GMD's opinion on reverb... :D

  • FUCK DOES THIS GUY SOUND LIKE JACK BLACK OR WHAT?

  • oh so smooth...........like baby child.

    tanks- Igor

  • SPRING CHICKEN - reverb sounds more wet and seemes to react faster

CHICKLET - reverb sounds a little more thin but more transparent, reverb also seems to kick in a split second later

***as always, it depends on what other gear you're using, how all of your gear complements/works against each other, what sound you're looking for, how it feels, and what you're willing to pay***

  • Save yourself a few bob and get the Electro-Harmonix Stereo Memory Person. You can get verbs and lovely FX from the one box.

  • Thx Gearmanndude ! been waiting for this one ! :D

  • JACK THE FUCK BLACK MUTHA FUCKA

  • I like the Spring Chicken more It sounds more animated + the Chicklet sounds more reserved Theyre both trippy verbs that make sounds other verbs dont If Malekko reissues this (see Spring Chicken LE ProGuitarShop) I will definitely snare one Lil Chopper sounds good too Thank U GMD! + cant wait for the dirty version!

  • hahaha best way you've said reverb sucks so far GMD XD.. "White coily cable of.. reverb sucks"

  • Used to be addicted to the reverb in my old 69 twin, then I quit reverb and just used a little delay, but I kinda like these "fake" reverbs now. The grail's flerb is always a good time.

  • spring chic = tone has disappeared into the background. chiclet = not natural enough.

    reverb = ass

  • I like the Spring Chiclet

  • I like a real spring reverb but these just sound artificial.

  • @BenFairbank I think the Holy Grail sounds pretty synthetic, but the Chicken's not half bad. But yes, they are missing that magic that only a good amp or 'verb tank can supply. However, if you watch the demo at PGS of the Chicken and Chicklet, the "dwell" knob does some really crazy oscillation stuff that real reverbs can't do

Still... I have a hard time understanding much of a demand for reverb pedals when most amps come with reverb anyway (that almost always sounds better than pedals).

  • So... after hearing the A/B, the Chicklet sounds pretty weak and lifeless compared to the SC. From all I've heard through demos and in person, I'm not real impressed with anything from their Omicron series except maybe the fuzz.

Speaking of Malekko... Hey GMD, in the gear community there's a lotta buzz about the Malekko 616 analog delay burying the Carbon Copy. They both have similar features. I think an A/B of the two is in order (personally think CC's better sounding). Can ya hook us up?

  • 'white coiley cable of reverb sucks'

    xD

  • The chicken smells much better than the chiclet in my opinion.

  • ...but reverb does suck. I've never played through a reverb that didn't suck some tone. That's why I like the chicklet in this demo. It lets you keep your low-mids and bass as intact as any reverb can.

  • I prefer the spring chicken

  • I would say that the spring chicken is a little better, it really sounds like authentic spring verb. The chicklet is a little less realistic sounding to my ears, but still a very nice reverb none the less. They are both similar but they have their own flavour.

  • @PapaKenny777 I have 'em both and I think that the main difference is the Chicklet has more of a mid-rangey character to it. I really didn't like it at first, but if you compare it to an actual spring reverb, it's pretty damned close. The Spring Chicken (FYI- Malekko will apparently mod these units for $35 to include a dwell control which makes the pedal MUCH cooler) has a warmer, bassier vibe to it. Both are great, easily my favorite reverb pedals on the market!

  • I'd like to have some spring chicken!

  • a white coiley cable of reverb sucks... man he has an arsenal of useful cables!

  • can you please explain why you don't like reverb?

  • @newclearwaste I was gonna ask the same.

  • @newclearwaste Really just a joke to get folks rowdy...I used Marshalls for about 15 years straight, and just got used to never having reverb. I really have nothing against it...I just like the way saying REVERB SUCKS rolls off the toungue.

    ROCK ON!

    GMD

  • @gearmanndude haha okay, I figured something like that.

  • @gearmanndude How could you play without a little reverb or delay??? Just plugging it out dry??? Ouch. Seriously, though, the chicklet isn't as good as the spring chicken, imho. Not a nice sounding spring. Rock it, buddy!

  • @chrishpippin Tone's in the fingers, bro, not the effects. Many a great riff 'twas written with nothing but a guitar, clean signal or some dirt (AC/DC, Zeppelin, Skynyrd, Sabbath to name a few). Effects like reverb or subtle delay are kinda like salt and pepper. Some like the added ambiance or extra flavoring, some don't, and some mix and match depending on the mood, like myself.

GMD seems to just dig good rockin' tone if I observe correctly, without a lotta flashy bells and whistles.

  • @tcinpa37 Funny, all four of those bands use effects on like every song. But I hear you. When I'm playing hot I could be playing through the beer can amp and it would sound good. When I'm off, not any combo of Les Paul and Marshall can help. But dry just sucks. It sounds.....dry.

  • @chrishpippin Yeah, they use effects, of course, but I'm referring to songs and riffs that are just there: Iron Man, Livin' Lovin' Maid, Tuesday's Gone, and almost ALL AC/DC (SG into an amp is how Angus rolls).

I realize that when mixing down they add stuff like chrous and delay to some of their songs, but a lot of them are just dirt/fuzz or clean. Stones is another example.

SO I get that you like a little fluff and that's cool. I'm just saying there's a TON of great songs and riffs "dry."

  • @tcinpa37 Agreed. And I do like a little fluff, thank you for noticing. I know you'll agree that you can't beat Duane Eddy, James Burton, Eddie Cochran, etc. etc. A little spring will do you. But yes, dry is okay as well. It's just....dry. Keep on rockin' in the free world (still America I think ;)

  • @chrishpippin Hell yeah, I really like reverb to add some body. Just a little, like 3/10. Sometimes it's cool to turn up real wet and do some surfy stuff or trippy, melodic stuff, too. And yes, for as many great dry riffs, there are as many "wet" riffs. Pink Floyd made an entire career out of it. Hell, Dick Dale invented a whole genre with reverb. Hell, my rig at home is a little tube combo mic'd into a Fender KXR--mostly for the 80's spring reverb in it. So I definitely "get" the love for it.

  • @gearmanndude classique

  • @gearmanndude No man, you have chosen the side and you better damn stick with it!

Tomorrow we march, against the reverb!

  • Have to say I actually prefer the Chicklet :)
