@sofiabrasil I prefer them with docked tail, but I have had Giants with floppy ears and long tail that were awesome dogs. The reason people dock tails was because of their working dog status and cutting them made the dogs safer around machinery. Now it is more tradition, but I assure you the dogs could care less assuming it was done by a vet.

My giants are rescues so I take what I get. If you want to be outraged, be outraged that people buy dogs and then fail to do even basic training.

I did not know that about machinery, and it makes much more sense now. But in the case of tradition (which seems to be most of the cases nowadays) I just think it's useless, a waste of money, and transfering peoples's vanity to a dog, although I know dogs couldn't care less. As a dog owner nowadays, I wouldn't support it.

@johnmacisaac I honestly prefer a docked tail because my giants are in the house and dont knock so many things off and over with their non stop wagging lol they look beautiful either way tho :)

I`m raising now my 2nd giant and she`s awesome! My first died at 10, due to bone cancer :( She was such a character that we decided to become Schnauzer people for life - no other dog can better suit an active lively person! But be warned - a strong sense of humour is a must!

@sofiabrasil Mini and standard schnauzers used to be ratters (not sure about giants). they would sometimes dig for their prey and get stuck. the tails were originally cut off in order to easily pull the pooch out of holes they got themselves stuck in. for some reason the "style" continued even after the popularity of keeping them as ratters faded.
