@shanereel Iagree with you. A good play, but it is not different enough to call it a cover. If you want a true cover listen to "kiko veneno (memphis blues again)". Cool and different
@Wortnick you must not have listened to Blonde on Blonde very much because this song sounds pretty spot on to the original Dylan version and it's a good thing. Dylan's folk music is so overrated. His best three records were the three rock records.
I still don't think you can really compare it to Dylan. Bob Dylan never sounds so much like he's 'singing a song' like this girl does. Plus he doesn't have as much trumpet sections and fucking drum fills that make it sound like a song angling for a Gap ad.
your comment made me laugh (and i do have a problem with mark-ronson-esque-ad-friendly horns) but this is actually a pretty spot on cover -in my un-humble opinion- she gives it a bit more memphis with those horns etc. plus her laid back delivery feels kinda velvet-underground-cool.
@baddancer73 This is "Memphis" sounding because it was actually recorded in Memphis..with "The Memphis Rhythm Band" I wish she would put that together again. My very favorite Cat Power period!
Simply, a gorgeous version of a classic. It reminds me a bit of Kate Blanchet's success in her role at the film "I'm not there". By the way, I'm also a vet.
I smile and privately suspect this is one reason why Dylan's people have pulled his versions from YT ... that cat who hides in the alley likes to see what other artists do with his songs ... as he smiles at the ripples he made as he splashed into the 60's. My =^.^= just made your cats one of my favorites. Thanks! "It all seems so well timed", wow.
It's good but definitely not better. Its strange that this is the version which is on the soundtrack to I'm not there, but there is no doubt that it is Dylan and not Cat who is performing the song in the movie. Actually as far as I have heard ALL songs are the originals, but I guess that the soundtrack featured covers :)
Must say that the covers are really really good, this one especially.
@philipsmog It's obviously available somewhere. And since it is rare (meaning that it is a song of hers that one would only come across if searching for non-album material, that = obscure. What does production have to do with anything? Her last 2 albums have excellent production and yet she has released rarities that were spawned from those 2 records with equally good "production". Obscure does NOT = poor production. I don't understand why you would even relate the 2.

@philipsmog It's not so obscure - from the Soundtrack album for 'I'm Not There' (though not in the actual film)- the Oscar-nominated Todd Haynes movie in which six different actors (including Cate Blanchett) played Dylan.

Great version but she should have said "mama" the way Dylan did. There's just no topping it!
